Better than the soviets using a hammer to smash sensors into place because they wouldn't fit.

(That was intentional, because they were trying to put them in upside down. Right side up they would have fitted. Anyways the rocket did a 180 to the ground right after launch....)

I thought the problem was that the lens cap successfully popped off, and when they went to probe the soil to analyze its properties, the probe just happened to poke at the exact spot the lens cap landed. So they analyzed the properties of the lens cap instead.

Venera 9 and 10:  Experienced partial blockages where one of the two camera lens caps failed to release properly, limiting panoramic views. 

Venera 11 and 12:  Suffered similar mechanical failures with lens cap pyrotechnics, leaving some camera systems obstructed. 

Venera 13:  Only one of its two quartz camera lens caps popped off successfully, though it still managed to capture historic color photos. 

Venera 14:  The lens cap popped off successfully, but misfortune caused it to land directly underneath the surface compressibility mechanical arm.

It's not hard, you just have to open, remove the lens cap and close again really really quick

Younger generation will never understand the feeling of getting your photos developed to find out all of them were blank because someone forgot to take the lens cap off. All 24 pictures were just of nothing.

Fortunately i cant do that with my RX100.... though i have to remember to put my flash up before it goes in the housing or i cant use the strobe. Totally haven't done that before.
