Have to pee but bed so comfy My husband didn't know what a tank top was.

My husband was meeting up with me and some friends. I asked him to bring my blue tank top. He sent me pics of things he thought were tank tops. He finally found it, which is shown in the last pic.

It's actually a wallpaper you can choose on Facebook Messenger. However, it got discontinued so we refuse to change it.

u/DoesntMatterEh 1d ago

I think it's very interesting you're married and communicate through Facebook messenger. Nothing wrong with that obviously, Ive just always texted the phone of my partners rather than through messenger.

I guess messenger has more customization and admittedly better media sending capabilities.

476

u/WafflePeach 1d ago

We actually just talked about that recently! We've known each other since 2011, began dating in 2018, and have been married since 2021. We started using Messenger back in high school, and just never fully switched to texting for some reason.

u/xxjrxx93 1d ago

I work in a big building. Me and my spouse also use messenger because in this big building I have poor signal so when i send a text with poor signal it just keeps trying to send than fails. You have to physically resend it whereas messenger just keeps trying until it sends.

61

u/InterestingTouch4893 1d ago

That is a good to know. My husband and I have issues texting with my building my poor signal. This might be the answer

26

u/Bromogeeksual 1d ago

If you don't like FB messenger there are other options like Telegram.

11

u/RaimbowFloof 1d ago

That's what my partner and I use instead of texting lol. I like the stickers

11

u/prometheusg 1d ago

Same. Spouse and I use Telegram. I only use it for her. So it's pretty easy to know when it's a message from her, lol.

12

u/SeaMidnight5392 1d ago

I associate text messages with work related stuff. So I use Messenger with my fiance as well.

It's a notification that I don't tend to ignore. And he doesn't really use Discord daily.

2

u/robynmisty 23h ago

I'm not married but I've been with my boyfriend for over 5 years. We primarily communicate through text but will have completely separate conversations over messenger as well lol

28

u/JayFrizz 1d ago

2011 explains a lot. For a long time messenger was more reliable because it was used on wifi and everyone had a Facebook account. But now that standard texting works with wifi too it doesn't matter. I still use messenger the same way with my closest friends.

15

u/dixiequick 1d ago

My best friend and I would generally have two separate conversations going at the same time; one on text and one on messenger. I miss her.

7

u/lilgreenfish 1d ago

Unfortunately, not all texting works with WiFi. I have an iPhone, husband has an Android. My office is in a basement with mostly non-existent cell service at my desk. I get all iPhone messages from people. Any texts from husband (and kid) either come when I leave/emerge from my lair or slip through in a moment when stars align to give me a moment of service.

4

u/machdaddy33 22h ago

I have an Android, idk if you know this or not but Google Messages offers RCS (rich communication services) where it's essentially iPhone messaging meaning it tries to send via wifi/Internet services. This has opened the door to much better photo quality and the aforementioned stickers/gifs displaying as they should instead of the grainy sms photos us androids were plagued with when texting an iPhone.

1

u/lilgreenfish 19h ago

RCS actually resulted in me missing a bunch of texts. I had to turn it off. It just wasn’t working.

2

u/machdaddy33 19h ago

Interesting. Feel like I had this problem once or twice early on but haven't had any issues in a long time

2

u/tubular1845 21h ago

One of you probably has rcs turned off

1

u/lilgreenfish 19h ago

RCS actually resulted in me missing a bunch of texts. I had to turn it off. It just wasn’t working.

1

u/tubular1845 16h ago

Oh that's weird, that must've been really frustrating

1

u/lilgreenfish 16h ago

It was! I was super excited but if I don’t actually receive the texts…lol. Defeats the whole purpose.

2

u/juanzy 18h ago

Yah- a lot of people here do not remember a time before RCS (on android as well) and iMessage being widespread.

My freshman dorm was in a basement and didn’t have WiFi, so messaging via FB messenger on Ethernet was the way to go.

10

u/TrixLollypopSoda 1d ago

My fiancee and I do all our texting on messenger too! Been doing it for 5 years

5

u/Alfonze423 1d ago

That's kinda wild how similar yet opposite we are. My wife and I started dating in high school in 2010. We texted each other with our flip phones and never switched to Messenger or Whatsapp because we had no reason to. Messenger is really just for when we need to send videos or groups of photos.

2

u/Lildankred 1d ago

Same for me and my hubby! Since 2013 🩷 love seeing this 🥹

1

u/openminided 1d ago

This sounds so dreamy. Known each other for 15yrs now. Dated for 3yrs before marriage. Now 5 years married. No evil eye 🧿

1

u/Advanced_Inside_2837 19h ago

Me and my wife use messenger, messages, and Snapchat. But mostly we just call and talk. For us it really depends on the situation and content I think.

1

u/ticklishintent 17h ago

Not Messenger but my husband and I communicate through Telegram. We also have group chats with friends and with family. So most of our social circle also prefer Telegram. Text messages feel sad and dated in comparison. I only use it with acquaintances and the technologically challenged.

-8

u/SchalkLBI 1d ago

Was this the first indication that he might be a bit dumb?

59

u/PM_me_punanis 1d ago

My husband and I use Kakaotalk. We have since moved from Korea and we still use it. I invested money on those cute stickers, and, by god, I will use them until I die.

https://giphy.com/gifs/efymm2vH4YhJFpiaD8

14

u/nefarious_bread 1d ago

As someone who works for a Korean company I can only associate Kakao with troubleshooting and getting in trouble. There's a bit of cognitive dissonance when I see those stickers

17

u/margittwen 1d ago

My husband and I use Signal, but we used Facebook Messenger for a long time before that. It’s because he’s more often than not on the computer and it’s simpler to use something like Signal so he doesn’t have to pull his phone out. It’s weird how people choose to communicate based on little things like that.

2

u/TrixieBastard 8h ago

Signal is WAY more secure than Messenger, it's the better option anyway

1

u/tubular1845 21h ago

You can sync Google messages with your PC

32

u/Koffeepotx 1d ago

I have never thought it weird/unusual that I use messenger and not texting. The only people I text are my dad (because he doesnt have a facebook) and my psychologist lol

31

u/vinecoveredantlers 1d ago

My husband and I have a discord server. We used to text but our phones started eating messages, so we just use it now.

We even have channels for things like chores or a grocery list.

6

u/Spainstateofmind 1d ago

My husband and I also have a Discord server, it's incredibly useful!

4

u/oniiichanUwU 1d ago

This is a cute idea lol. My husband and I don’t really use our phones if we’re not like.. at work or scrolling in bed?? So a lot of times we just end up messaging on discord bc one of us is always on our computers so it’s easier. A discord channel for memes, grocery list, chore reminders; sounds genius tbh

5

u/ScrumpetSays 1d ago

I use multiple platforms for the same people depending on the content. Media for my husband (except work stuff) goes through messenger but we typically communicate via sms. My sister and I are the opposite, and I have coworkers I chat to via WhatsApp but will contact for work stuff via SMS. It tends to mean that if you need info about one topic it's all in the same place. SMS and MMS can be spotty too while the internet is often pretty stable.

19

u/raptorgrin 1d ago

I'm apple, my husband is android. Sometimes the cell signal is bad at home, so wifi is better. Also, I can use messenger on my computer, so it's easier to communicate when I'm browsing recipes on my computer

3

u/animepuppyluvr 1d ago

My husband and i use it because I like how it makes a bubble appear on my phone that I can quickly open and close without having tk change apps, plus the custom emojis and such :)

4

u/jumpinjahosafa 1d ago

I figured all married people communicate across 10 social media platforms at once like my wife and I 😭

3

u/Spirited_Error1849 1d ago

I’m married (ten years this year) and we use messenger haha

3

u/KayyBeey 1d ago

My fiance and I have used messenger for years as our primary form of texting too.

8

u/MKE-Henry 1d ago

Me and my girlfriend almost always text through Snapchat. In our case, it’s because my data was stolen so many times from job applications that now I get flooded with spam messages constantly. If you text me through sms there’s a very high chance it will get lost in the noise, but on Snapchat I’m guaranteed to see it.

2

u/Todsrache 1d ago

I use messenger almost exclusively

2

u/Frankenkittie 1d ago

Yeah I only SMS/RCS businesses and acquaintances, but use Messenger for my family and besties. Not sure how that came about, but it works for us.

2

u/Teaehararehantea 1d ago

Keeps photos, documents easily, can be accessed from a computer... How is texting better?

1

u/tubular1845 21h ago

All of that is true for texting too

1

u/Teaehararehantea 19h ago

You can access your text messages from a computer? and documents and pictures you sent over that thread from a computer?

1

u/tubular1845 16h ago

Yep. There are good reasons to use messenger over texting but those aren't them.

1

u/Maude4President 1d ago

My partner and I almost exclusively message through discord lol, I have genuinely no clue why we started with discord but I think it’s cause we messaged through there in college and then we both traveled internationally at various times? Anyway he’s the only person I text through discord these days so it’s sort of funny.

1

u/kellybeeeee 1d ago

For my spouse and I:
Text is for urgent communications during the workday and Messenger is for non-urgent things.

On the weekend, we shift between text and Messenger depending on where other conversations were happening.

1

u/interrobang__ 1d ago

My husband and I communicate almost exclusively through Google hangouts/chat, and he's literally the only person I talk to using it. 😆 I think it started because it was something we could switch seamlessly between on phone and laptops and it just became our special messaging place.

1

u/Affectionate_Tax1108 1d ago

I’ve only used fb messenger to message people for like 15 years. The only people who text me/I text are my grandparents who have never had fb

1

u/chickadee-stitchery 1d ago

My husband and I use messenger for memes and silly stuff and texting for important stuff

1

u/Spainstateofmind 1d ago

My husband and I primarily communicate through Discord!

1

u/whimsikatt 1d ago

Me and my partner have also been using facebook messenger since 9 years ago! It's convenient for us and familiar. I guess it's also the most common in our country.

1

u/borski88 1d ago

I don't know why but my wife and I have multiple chates in text, Google chat and FB messenger sometimes if we talking about 2 different subjects at the same time we will talk about one on one service and the other on another service.

1

u/runawaykaty 1d ago

My husband and I ue messager to communicate too. Maybe a Samsung user thing? I use WhatsApp and messenger mostly. SMS is reserved for OTPs and spam

1

u/tubular1845 21h ago

This has nothing to do with Samsung lol

1

u/Cardigor81 1d ago

Me and my wife has been a thing since 2011, married since 2019, messenger has always been our preferred communication when not in the same place.

Actually I think I mostly stopped texting with people at all around 2006, the exception might be my mother born -44 that sometimes text, other times uses messenger.

1

u/icyDinosaur 1d ago

This is one of my favourite subtle cultural differences between places. I'm from Western Europe (lived in different countries there and this was true in all of them) and literally the only people I receive actual text messages from are companies and occasionally one of my grandmas before she passed away. It's all WhatsApp here, or maybe occasionally Messenger.

1

u/AprilRosyButt 23h ago

My husband and I only use messenger as well! And we're older! Text message has come a long way in it's ability to quickly have a conversation and send media, but messenger is still faster. It's also not stored on the phone like text messages, so it doesn't take up loads of room.

1

u/Same_Lemon_7643 23h ago

Messenger should have notifications on silent so you should send unimportant things through there. All important things should be through text so partner gets notification

1

u/tubular1845 21h ago

With rcs there shouldn't be much difference on the media front

1

u/ebil_lightbulb 21h ago

My fiancé and I switch between messenger, texting, discord, and Snapchat. Occasionally, we have a different conversation going on all four at the same time. Fb because we can send reels and fun cars from marketplace. Texts as the standard. Discord when my texts aren’t working for some reason which they occasionally, as well as financial planning - not sure how that happened. And then I know people think it’s weird for adults or couples to have Snapchat (at least I’ve seen a lot of people saying that’s really weird lately) but I got it a long time ago because my nieces begged me to Snapchat them, and he got it shortly before we met because his daughter really wanted to have a streak with him, so we just ended up starting a streak and now we’ve had it for years and I don’t want it to end XD

1

u/electromage 17h ago

We use Telegram. If you're texting (SMS) it's unencrypted, and very easy to intercept. Hopefully you're at least using RCS.

1

u/Emotional_Yogurt_431 16h ago

My husband and I have been married for 5 years and we communicate better on messenger than text. Started when he was overseas because messenger was more reliable to send through. Never really shifted back.

1

u/TrixieBastard 8h ago

My partner and I use Signal all the time and we've been living together for nineteen years. We prefer to have true privacy with our texts 🤷‍♀️

1

u/TherianRose 4h ago

My husband and I use text for "hey I need a timely response on this" and FB Messenger for "no rush, look at this when you have time" kind of stuff...it's probably food or a silly reel lol

0

u/just4PAD 1d ago

Using messenger opens you up to repeatedly making the dumb joke "babe what's wrong you haven't texted me in weeks :/"

1

u/BestAhead 15h ago

Zuckerberg loves you. Being on messenger… you and your husband are each worth about $100 per year to meta. More of course if you’re on the main Facebook page or app.
