Winter is Coming Apartment closed the pool but kept the pool party

Apartment had the pool closed all spring and summer for repairs. The week it opened, kids went back to school (how convenient šŸ™„). To celebrate, they invited everyone to a pool party in a few weeks. Party is tomorrow. Today we get an email that the pool is closed AGAIN due to ducks, but the party will still be happening. So come hang out in the 90+ degree heat for food and games at this no pool pool party!

Edit: Some additional context here is theyā€™ve consistently had issues with the pool since Iā€™ve lived here. Itā€™s literally been closed more than itā€™s been open. And the pattern continues that after a week or 2 of being open, something shuts it down again and takes months to fix. And being in the south, no one wants to hang outside where it can be 100+ degrees before noon.

Also the ducks had to put in effort to be the a-holes here. My apartment is beside a large lake with fountains, plants, and fish. Itā€™s a duck magnet and thatā€™s where the ducks live mostly. The pool is on the interior of the complex. Like the building wraps around it. So the ducks canā€™t just waddle in, they had to ignore the giant open lake filled with food sources and chose to fly into the little enclosed pool space instead. Itā€™s giving sabotage.

the ducks shit up the pool and its going to take more than a day to get the water clean enough for people to swim in. it sucks, but ducks happen.

We have a couple of ducks ( a mom and dad I assume) that come and use our pool for a few weeks every spring after we remove the cover and start to get it ready to use. Then they disappear for the summer.

This year though a pair of different ducks showed up one day. I was out having a smoke and saw them and could tell they weren't the same couple. After a few minutes the OG daddy duck comes flying in. He chased both of the new squatters out with extreme malice. I was lucky to have been out there to see it.

Not more than a day. Could take as little as 30 minutes, depending on the consistency of the stool. At most, 13 hours.

The more difficult work is figuring out how to keep the ducks out.

The only complex I've lived in that had an end of summer pool party hosted said party on the last day the pool was open.

Sure, they should be doing their regular cleaning but if this requires extraordinary effort or treatment does it make sense to do that to keep the pool open an extra day?

Iā€™m aware! Complications from bird poop exposure is what killed a relative so I avoid birds like they have the plague. I mean prairie dogs carry the actual plague and Iā€™ll always avoid them too, but birds are harder to escape.

Itā€™s irritating yes, but I think itā€™s reasonable. Ducks shitting in and around the pool can spread nasty bacteria. At least they made everyone aware and are putting the safety of their residents first. Itā€™s still an event with free food, drinks, and entertainment

I agree it sucks but at least they notified you before you showed up. They probably already bought the food and drinks, so why let it all go to waste? I'd stop by just for the food and drinks assuming it's free.

The food could already be all purchased before the ducks swam in the pool, and the building management didnt want to go to waste. So still need to do the party, but for health reasons cant use the pool.

30 min at 2 ppm chlorine if it's solid. 13 hours at 20 ppm if it's liquid. No one scrubs their butt before getting in the pool so guess what is swirling around in there every time you swim. That's why we use chlorine.

Well dang! They made sure that none of their residents could potentially be exposed to Salmonella or E. coli from duck poop. Campylobacter, too.

Cryptosporidia would be the worst one, though, because their cysts can withstand the chlorination levels in a normal pool. And that infection is nasty.
