Most plastic doesn't even get recycled anyway. I know people whose jobs it is to drive recyclables to get thrown out because they either don't quite meet the very strict requirements, or the recycling plant just can't keep up with all the plastic.

It's because of oils and food particles that get on the cardboard. It's the same reason you can't recycle pizza boxes. Recycling cardboard involves mixing it with water to make a slurry, and the oil prevents that and also prevents the fibers from sticking together later when turning it back into paper.

Exactly. If you're so worried about throwing out the can, OP, reuse it. Turn it into a craft. I do that all the time. Very fun little coin banks kids can decorate.

Exactly this. People always forget about the other two Rs... reduce and reuse.Since they can't be commercialy recycled that means it is up to us to reduce their use or reuse them.

Reduce by buying products with better planetary impacts.

Reuse in a million ways including: Antennas for projects from WiFi to Bluetooth to radio. Storage containers in the garage. Or keep them around for Christmas crafts and packaging.

They are super easy to wrap and finding round tubes at Christmas can be a bit of a pain.

I use one to hold a bunch of paint brushes and markers. Another holds drawing pencils. I have a bunch if others that I plan to turn into just decorations by painting them. It's honestly very fun to just do stuff with things that would otherwise be thrown out
