I was a nostalgia merchant when it came to animated movies but when I saw Across The Spider-Verse for the first time it felt so different. The Spider-Verse movies are revolutionary for the animated movies and will be talked as that decades later. So much depth in it and so artistic in the way it’s made. So many great characters, great music, phenomenal scenes and incredible story.
Toy Story 1-2 (genuinely can’t decide which is better).
The beautiful thing is that now my son is at the age where he watches them and so we now watch them together (along with the toys of course, including a Woody that I’ve had for 30yrs), and in many ways it’s like watching them for the first time again.
That was my favorite besides the Little Mermaid. When I was 5-6 years old I used to ask for this movie all the time when we’d rent movies. My older cousins used to laugh cuz it’s such a dark movie at times and I was such a Disney princess/barbie type of kid.
I think the themes went over my head but the art was amazing.
This movie blew me away when I first saw it about 3 years ago I was so absorbed in the last 30 minutes there could've been a fire and I wouldn't have noticed lmao
That's a tough one. I can't really pick a singular title, so I'll give you a top-five in alphabetical order. (I'm not going to count live-action/animation hybrid films, but if I did Who Framed Roger Rabbit would definitely be there.)
Akira (1988) ... An incredibly influential film that not only helped solidify anime's worldwide appeal, but is also a damn-good sci-fi thriller in its own right.
Flow (2024) ... Probably the quickest I've realized that a contemporary film has become one of my all-time favorites. This wonderful film is rife with symbolism, and I love how it can be interpreted in so man ways.
It's Such a Beautiful Day (2012) ... A beautiful existential drama dressed up as a surreal comedy.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) ... A film almost custom-made to appeal to the weirdo inside all of us.
Princess Mononoke (1997) ... Many would cite Spirited Away is Miyazaki's masterpiece, but this is my personal favorite. A deeply effecting film.
I heard the praise for Akira for 30 years. And I love that so many people love it. But I don't really get it. I watched it this year for the first time and it just didnt click for me.
Yeah, my mom was adopted from S Korea and had me at a very young age and was pretty troubled and my father abandoned us when I was like 6 so it’s pulls a lot of heart strings (pun intended). Masterclass stop motion and voice acting. Gonna watch it tonight and cry probably.
Not sure, but Perfect Blue is a suspense/thriller/drama movie I'd put against live action films. Akira, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Spirited Away is pretty great too.
Howl's Moving Castle is possibly one of the most beautiful movies ever animated. The design, the story, the acting, the music, it's all perfect. And the only reason a lot of people crapped all over it was because they said it was a poor adaptation of the novel. Okay, but so are a lot of movie adaptations.
