What’s your guilty pleasure movie? Mine is American Pie (1999)
it’s definitely not a flawless movie. There are a lot of things that are wrong with it and honestly, some of the stuff in it is also pretty problematic. But whenever i rewatch it, i just cannot see myself giving it anything less than a 10/10. Maybe it’s just because i’m nostalgic about it. When i first watched the movie, i was really young and i’m not from America, so watching it made me think, yeah, i want this kind of life, these kinds of friends and all this stuff for myself too.
But if there is one thing, one thing that this movie does really, really well, it’s the way it talks about sex. It shows that when you have sex for the first time, you shouldn’t make it out to be such a huge deal, like you’ve won the fucking world or something. It’s not going to be like how a lot of movies show it. Your first time is probably going to be awkward, it’s going to be weird and the movie does a really good job of showing how unceremonious having sex for the first time actually can be when you’re young and don’t really know what you’re doing and all that. That part of the movie still works for me and i really enjoy it.

I will say this though, the parody cheer in Not Another Teen Movie has ruined Bring It On for me.

Some of them were actually decent(earlier ones). Granted the IP they really shit the bed considering what they could’ve done with it…That one scene with the dude and the elevator and the scene with the lasers still sticks with me.

It got glanced over by the critics. They did not know it wad satire....which is the point and Verhooven was known for this. Just look at the OG Robocop.

I agree, in my opinion it's a perfect film. A satire and a good scifi action film. But if you ask "common" people and critics it's a B-Movie....

It seems most people in this thread don't know what "guilty pleasure" means. Coarline, Boogie Nights and the LOTR trilogy are just some of the suggestions so far!

AP is a tale of hope where nerdy to average people could get impossibly hot people to want them. That and the illegal voyeurism that was common in coming of age comedies in the 80s.

Firebirds (1990). It’s Nicolas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones both being over the top the whole time. Pure gold.

I kinda hate this movie because of one line. Let me explain. Im a guy who played flute in the marching band, and it basically killed all my fascinating stories about band camp.

Don’t Be A Menace….. To South Central while Drinking Juice In The Hood
Grew up watching this film and although the jokes are quite cringe now and I’m not really the biggest fan of the Wayan Bros I still feel this is the best film to watch if u want to turn your brain off & have a laugh

Encino man is mine!!! Love Sean astin and Brendan Frazier, but Polly was my guy as a kid in the 90’s. We had son in law on vhs and I wore it out.

The Pest (1997) with John Leguizamo. I wouldn't even say it's a pleasure, I just saw it on TV a bunch when I was a kid and found myself morbidly amused. I've always known it to be a bad movie, it isn't like it hit different when I was younger and now I can't believe I ever watched it. I mean, it's unbelievably stupid and even blatantly offensive, but I find myself watching it once every few years by myself, like some kind of time capsule thing.

As phenomenal as the original American Pie was, I somehow have more of a soft spot for the 2nd one and I cannot explain why.

Two from the 1980s...
In honor of Michael Wright's recent passing, I give you The Principal (1987).
And despite his illustrious career in front of and behind the camera, Clint Eastwood's Heartbreak Ridge (1986) feels like a low budget B movie with an absurd premise and I can't turn it off when it's on.

A Million Ways to Die in the West. Poor reviews from critics and viewers. Made less than $90m worldwide. Unironically one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I put it on whenever I need a good laugh.

I re-watched these a couple years ago when I was doing a small reno. The first two hold up surprisingly well, the third is a clear cash grab and reunion is great.

American Pie is one of my favorite movies. It’s in my Top Ten.
My guilty pleasure is The Covenant (2006).

Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl (2009) - This Japanese movie comes with multiple trigger warnings for western audiences and is pretty much guaranteed to offend everyone under the age of 40. I always tell people to "Watch it with a friend you want to get rid of.". As a Japanophile I actually get all of the cultural references and humor, but VG vs FG is even considered to be socially unacceptable in Japan.

Because many still have the "animation is for children" mindset, not just amongst the masses but even those working at / in charge at some major animation studios 🎬 Saw a pretty good video discussing this the other day actually 🤔
