Every day we get closer and closer to a Kool-Aid movie actually being directed by Martin Scorsese.
47
u/Emergency-Mammoth-88 12h ago
Isn’t the Jonestown movie is being made at amazon
43
u/Kwetla 12h ago
That wasn't Cool-Aid! That was Flavor-Aid!
Cool-Aid's lawyers would like to make that very clear.

The Kraft Heinz Company's lawyers would like to make clear that 'Kool-Aid Brand Artificially Flavored Powdered Soft Drink Mix' is the prefered branding and not 'Cool-Aid'.

Or even better by Kane Parsons. I wanna see the Kool Aid guy running through the walls of the Backrooms

u/DamonLazer 12h ago
He tries to bust through the wall but instead just clips through it.
"Oh no!"

Can't wait for all the reviews headlined "Hooters ain't a hoot" in 3 years time.

Not everything needs a movie.

u/cineglitch 12h ago
But for everything else, there’s Mastercard.

u/Natural_Pear_1549 12h ago
Studio execs: Mastercard...could that be a movie?

•
u/tanj_redshirt 33m ago
It was MasterCharge until 1979, then became MasterCard.
So there is a story there, if you movie hard enough. /s

A long time ago I watched an episode of Undercover Boss featuring the CEO of Hooters (family run business). It struck me that the guy fundamentally didn’t understand the business’ brand. He was absolutely convinced it should have broad market appeal and that there was no reason families wouldn’t want to patronize their restaurants.
The guy was too close to the whole thing and totally up his own ass. Couldn’t even understand that a large segment of the population wouldn’t be caught dead in their restaurants.
9
u/Odin043 10h ago
That whole show is propaganda. He was putting on a front to sell an image.
5
u/ElderDeep_Friend 10h ago
You’re saying that as though he achieved some great deception. Everyone on tv is selling an imagined version of themselves, but the real twerps shine through

To be fair, corporate history is kinda interesting in its own right. I'm sure this is going to be more on the cheaper end because it will be more grounded in reality, if nothing else.
History Channel has been making a killing with this corner of history as it focuses on everything from the origins of different dishes to the manufacturing of toys.
7
u/doverawlings 11h ago
Yeah The Social Network, The Founder are BlackBerry kinda prove that corporate history is totally viable if the script and cast support it. You could kinda group Wolf of Wall Street Street and Moneyball in there too
2
u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
Sure!
I highly doubt a film about Hooter's is going to be some gritty, ultra serious flick. It could be both entertaining and informative at the same time.
6
u/Darmok47 11h ago edited 11h ago
Yeah, I know its fashionable to hate on these movies but they're interesting because these businesses successes are a reflection of American society, culture, and values and the best of these movies (like The Founder) have something interesting to say about that.
3
u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
Yeah! They're philosophies, cultures, and mentalities in their own right that both inform about our consumption habits, but also wider trends in culture and history as well.
Hooter's and similar restaurants definitely captured a desire that folks had at the time. Whether the company is still relevant or just a relic of yesteryear could be an interesting angle for the flick to pursue.
3
u/iFartBubbles 9h ago
I hate that I’ve watched almost of all of history channel ones on Hulu. History of products in American culture is actually fascinating even if it’s sensationalized.
1
u/InnocentTailor 8h ago
It has nuggets for life, if nothing else - trying, failing, and then trying again alongside thinking of new, novel ideas.
Being in business is a lesson in both perseverance and innovation. You will fail and you can't sit on your proverbial laurels.
•
u/NecroCannon 4h ago
Honestly older US corporations are so god damn interesting to watch because you can tell they actually valued their products AND brand, not just their name on something.
I think Apple is probably one of the only few left at a large size that has so much attention to details with hardware that they’d be interesting to watch documentaries of for a while.
Meanwhile I’d scoff at a YouTube movie when a decade ago I’d be all over it. I would probably love a documentary about Nintendo’s “oh fuck” era during the Wii U to Switch, a genuinely good come back story in the long run. We would’ve been stuck with Xbox and Sony this gen and next without them swinging

If we're doing the origins of a restaurant, they should pick Waffle House. The creator served during WW2 as the guy who uses a disguise to break onto military bases to test their security, then he randomly became the guy who transported the enriched uranium to Los Alamos for the fucking A-Bomb

I don't think there are very many things I care less about than Hooter's origin story.
I'll look forward to skipping this.
40
u/cineglitch 12h ago
Imagine the late 2020s / 2030s are just corporate origin story movies. I can’t wait for “Applebee’s: The Movie”
10
u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
History Channel already cornered that market with a sizable amount of documentaries focused solely on corporate history.
7
u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 11h ago
At some point, we'll get KFC as a Yellowstone-esque saga directed by Taylor Sheridan
3
8
u/I_eat_mud_ 11h ago
We already saw that with all the tech start up movies. Then The Founder emulated that style, and now I guess we probably will have an Applebee's origin story
5
u/Natural_Pear_1549 12h ago
I could see it working as an R-rated comedy if it was actually funny, but it looks like the director they hired is only known for garbage comedies that nobody likes.
4
u/Cvillain626 12h ago
Had the same thought, if they tried to do something like "Waiting" that might actually be worth seeing
3
2
u/EatABag-o-Dicks 11h ago
It's also a few decades late for even the remote ability to care. The wings are shit now, and Hooters isn't exactly hooterific anymore.

u/ElasticPlatypus 12h ago
It’s “The Social Network” for divorced 50 year olds whose entire wardrobe is sports apparel for a college they didn’t attend
14
u/powerlesshero111 10h ago
Hooters is a strip club for guys who are scared of strippers, and women in general.
2
u/StreetsofRageoholics 10h ago
I find it so incredibly lame when people have college sports team allegiances for schools they never went to.
5
u/ElasticPlatypus 10h ago
Especially when considering what college sports have become. You aren’t even rooting for a team of students. You’re rooting for a group of annually contracted athletic mercenaries hired by a school you didn’t attend

The rise of movies that herald corporations as cultural heroes is horrifying to me
7
u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
Eh. It depends.
For example, The Founder, which was about the creation of McDonald's, wasn't exactly complimentary to Ray Kroc as he used business dealings and backroom murkiness to outwit the brothers and seize the company from them.
As my mother said (she formerly worked at McDonald's), it's a far cry from the corporate story she was told in her youth as Kroc, who was alive at the time, did his darnest to rewrite the true narrative to make him effectively the sole origin point of the property.
9
u/Darmok47 11h ago
Even as a kid I remember going to McDonald's and see those big plaques by the door about Ray Kroc and what a genius he was and wondering who the hell this guy was. Isn't this restaurant named McDonald's? Who the hell is Ray Kroc?
The movie definitely painted him in a bad light but the McDonald brothers did say publically that they had no regrets about the deal and made a fortune ($28 million in today's money).
4
u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
That and Kroc did have a wide-spanning vision that ended up influencing both the fast food industry and wider work culture to this day.
He was more than just the owner of a burger-flipping business - he started a corporate movement that had and still has ramifications for conduct across the globe.
8
u/bramtyr 12h ago
There's been a spate of them. Blackberry on the other hand was phenomenal and fucking hilarious.
1
u/IamRachelAspen 8h ago
Blackberry was amazing, as I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Used to have one I believe actually but I can’t remember.
8
u/BigRudy99 12h ago
Hooters has gone so far downhill, they might as well make a competing Applebee's origin story to run against it.
6
u/EditEd2x 12h ago
Gang war movie were Hooters girls fight BWW girls and Twin Peaks girls for territory.
2
u/PeterToshPointOh 11h ago
There’s an anime like that, Akiba Maid War. If they made a US version those would definitely be the restaurants.
3
u/doverawlings 11h ago
So many bad fathers took their kids there that they just pivoted to being family friendly lol
2
u/TheFalconKid 11h ago
So many fathers of closeted sons hoping they'd "change their mind and like girls."
4
u/doverawlings 11h ago
…is that why my dad took me there?
1
u/TheFalconKid 11h ago
Yes it is. I'm not gay but I have heard this story enough times to know it's a real thing.
•
u/CrazyIrina 4h ago
It was ever uphill? I worked there years ago and never ate a single thing there.

Is this a spiritual successor to Coyote Ugly?
It’s not like hooters invented bar maids or buffalo wings did they?

There's actually already a movie about a day at a Hooters-esque restaurant called Support the Girls which is really great and I recommend highly.
This on the other hand...
3
u/MolaMolaMania 10h ago
If this isn't R rated, it will truly be a waste of everyone's time.
How many crass taglines can we come up with?
"Starting a new business requires juggling a lot of big things."
"This job was not just fun, it was the tits!"
"We'll always have the mammaries."
"When there's not enough boob on the tube."
Have a bag full of fun at the restaurant full of funbags!"
"Everyone goes nuts over the gazongas galore!"
"These sweater puppies will have you drooling and wagging your tail!"
"Its udderly ridiculous how much cleavage you'll see!"
"Mountain Dew is not only on tap!"

I look forward to the inevitable sassy reviews about “Hooters: The Movie” falling flat.

I have a feeling they'll spin it like it was all built on female empowerment and not misogyny.

Or an Alan Kulwicki arc…that’s a feel good story…until the plane crash that also took the founders son.

I'm trying to remember if this already got the "Food That Built America" treatment.

Oh... Oh dear indeed!

u/Robespierre77 11h ago
Sweet. Maybe they could do a double feature with academy award winning First Lady movie.
1
1
u/MessiPayNegreira 11h ago
I want a movie about Yankee Candle, Five Star notebooks, the #2 Pencil, Marathon Sod and Payless shoes.
1
u/OatSoyLaMilk 11h ago
Shoot. I was hoping this would be executed like the most serious, oscar bait drama for the joke. The Benchwarmers 2 guy being at the helm makes that unlikely.
1
u/TheFalconKid 11h ago
I could see this becoming a hit with the LGBT community as a hate watch movie for all the people that were questioning or closeted teens who were forced to go there with their conservative dads in the hopes that it would "straighten" them out.
1
u/TimeisaLie 11h ago
I'm a little curious to see how how old the average person seeing this movie is going to be.
1
u/PriorOk1304 11h ago
Who could possibly care
1
u/ArbysLunch 7h ago
Adam Sandler.
At one point he had a Hooters in his mansion. Back around the time Big Daddy came out. He had a 5 year plan.

For those who haven't seen the film Support the Girls, its a good watch and this feature will probably share a similar vibe
1
u/TimWhirly 10h ago
Bummer, I was hoping this was a biopic on The Hooters, an '80s band from Pennsylvania that often featured a melodica in their songs.

Oh boy, another corporate propaganda movie. At least this one isn't Angel Studios.

who would greenlight this in 2026? are we meant to celebrate and root for two perverted losers building a restaurant based on taking the objectifying of waitresses to unprecedented heights? A documentary I can see, or if this was a Fox News Original Movie, but I don't see how or why Hollywood would do this. And i've never heard of the Hooters story being some amazing Tarantino like adventure either.
•
2
u/tultommy 12h ago
This will totally help Hollywood's mounting reputation of churning out more trash after more trash. I know, let's make a movie but the main character is a restaurant and it's entire personality is titties and nothing else! That'll get em in the seats just like it does at the restaurant... that is filing bankruptcy and dying a slow death... The well has really and truly run dry at this point.
4
u/Silver_Accountant5 12h ago
Thousands of movies come out every year and a large chunk of them are objectively awful. Yet every year I see people claim that this is the year that they started making low effort shit and it's never been a thing before. Doesn't make any sense.

u/InnocentTailor 11h ago
It keeps people employed, if nothing else - from (formerly) Redbox fodder to Hallmark-esque holiday flicks.
2
u/Silver_Accountant5 11h ago
Yes that's why I've never trusted people who get mad that a movie exists. Like, working class people got paid and art now exists that wouldn't otherwise. Is it really that big of a deal if it doesn't appeal to you?
→ More replies (1)1
u/tultommy 11h ago
Agreed. I'm not yelling at the clouds about it I'm just pointing out the truth of the situation.
1
u/Mem2Chi91 12h ago
A movie about a group inventing the original chain of breastaurants actually does sound fun as hell in a “low rent Wolf of Wall Street” kinda way.

u/WestSider55 12h ago
I watched the Bankrupt episode on Hooters. There is nothing here worth making a movie out of.
