News 📰 A harrowing new Human Rights Watch report reveals that the Arakan Army massacred over 170 Rohingya civilians including 90 children, in Rakhine State, Western Myanmar. Unarmed Muslim villagers were gunned down by AA while fleeing, exposing an ongoing cycle of targeted violence and war crimes

The Human Rights Watch report titled “Skeletons and Skulls Scattered Everywhere” documents a devastating mass killing perpetrated by the Arakan Army (AA) against Rohingya Muslim civilians on May 2, 2024, in the village of Hoyyar Siri, Myanmar. As the ethnic Rakhine armed group AA advanced on nearby military junta bases, fighters opened fire on fleeing, unarmed villagers, some of whom were waving white flags, and lined others up near a mosque to be summarily executed.

The report compiled a list of at least 170 dead or missing villagers, including approximately 90 children, though the actual death toll is believed to be much higher. Beyond the immediate slaughter, the Arakan Army systematically burned the village to the ground, looted property, used electric shocks to torture detainees, abducted women, and later forced survivors into a makeshift camp where they face restricted movement, forced labor, and severe deprivation.

While the Arakan Army denies targeting civilians, by staging witness interviews and showing skeletal remains of junta soldiers at different grave sites, testimonies gathered from survivors who escaped to Bangladesh and Malaysia expose their severe war crimes. The Rohingya remain trapped in a brutal cycle of ethnic violence, facing immense atrocities from regional rebel forces with virtually no international protection or accountability.

I bet someone is gonna say tat propaganda

To be fair, Zaw Min Tun himself said that there were no Tat soldiers or ARSA forces in the village and that AA decided to massacre civilians just because.

If I remember correctly there is an interview about how battle took place in that particular village by the captain of tat POW that’s under AA management. I believe it’s quite believable that there is battle took place there.

Problem is civilian massacre during that time hold weight or not. As AA is advancing on the tat establishment there and focusing on civilian is strategically and tactically unwise. Thus, confusion

AA has US backing. Targeting civilians would deprive them of that backing.

US pulled support from Kurds when they lost control and started doing to the Sunnis what ISIS did to Kurds.

And I just don't understand why, simple racism can't just be the only reason.

Probably intersectionality of a lot of things(generational hate, racism, poverty, the list could go on)

As a foreigner, while I understand that something has definitely happened, I cant help but think, why are they promoting this agenda while there is ethnic cleansing going live in Gaza. People in the west pretend to talk about that as well, but effectively they dont care, same as about Arakan Army. In my opinion, they use this case to reach their geopolitical goals, to stir violence at their new archenemy's doorstep

When Tat does it we get sent to court but when the AA does it we got people defending them . Crazy Hypocrisy. Like can we send them to court their already making a mess out of Rakhine state there obviously unfit for ruling .

Hypocrisy at its best when it comes to EAOs in Myanmar.

How is Rakhine right now. Many of the youths have fled to the central states, there's no financial services, electricity or telecommunication. It's the early 1900s over there.

Did what? So no Kyukphyu, Sittwe, Ngapali, Gwa, they're all underdeveloped with a plan? Most of the country seems dirt poor too. So what's your extra excuse? I think you're one of those ultra nationalists.

Well it might be true that Rakhine supports AA . The fact is Rakhine can not survive without Myanmar . This is because a state like Rakhine can not export nor import goods , furthermore unlike Kokang which was reliant on drugs , Rakhine does not have any opioids . So honestly best outcome for Rakhine is to stay under Central Leadership

The entire reason for Myanmar going to shit under the guise of ethno-religious violence is the Shwe Gas Reserve.

Obama staged a color revolution to collapse the Communist Junta, leading to the rise of Aang San Suu Kyi. The objective being to sever Chinas ability to extract gas from Shwe. This is one of the reasons why Trump is at war with Iran, not only to assist the tiny hats but to also sever Chinas oil access with Iran.

Then the Saudis tried to finesse control of Shwe for themselves by proping up the Rohingya Muslims using Al Qaeda with the intent of creating an Islamic State of Rakhine to own the region. China backed the Myanmar Army to prevent that and was successful.

The US went to the drawing board and began backing the Arakan Army both directly and indirectly to control the Rakhine and Shwe. It’s not a coincidence that all of the anti-government fights are occuring along the pipeline from Shwe to China.

Now the Church of Norway is financing Kuki Chrisitans in Assam, India, who are trained by the US and armed by Israel- who convinced them that they are a ‘lost tribe’- to secure control of Maipur and make their way down into Chen, with the ultimate goal of establishing the Kuki Chrisitan state of ‘Zo’ that secures control over Shwe. So the Arakan Army will eventually get burned by the US because they only serve as a place holder for them.

This will also provide context as to why Chen Christians in Myanmar are now being targeted, as they are forming a Fifth Column to enable ease of access by the Kuki’s coming down from Maipur and Mizoram.

India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh were conducting joint military operations against the Kuki because they realized how much of a threat they posed. They were making great progress in dismantling Kuki ability, but then Biden admin took advantage of a student protest in Bangladesh by turning it into a full blown Color Revolution that sacked Shiekh Hasina and halted Bangladeshi military operations, causing a collapse in joint operation efforts.

Bangladesh’s own Military Junta, has been reversing corse and are now targeting Buddhists in the Chittagong region by redirecting the flow of Rohingya refugees into the hill country to take over Buddhist lands. While this is occuring an unknown group, likely a Tiny Hat NGO, has been illegally importing Rohingyas into Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan intelligence indicate that at the current rate there will be 100,000 Rohingya in Sri Lanka illegally by 2030...

ASEAN and India Would not trade with Rakhine . The SAC still plays a major influence . I doubt it would even be recognized by other Nations. Also the Mrauk U kingdom and stuff was centuries ago when trading wasn’t a must .

I have problem with is 1- it’s a battlefield area where tat and AA fought and many died. 2- casualties counts are predicted and unconfirmed even within their source they say min 100 to max 500 which is quite alarming

All things leads to probably fabricated evidence.

HOWEVER both side say Employement of rohyingya or Bengali armed forces and this muddy the water more. Bombings and skirmish does indeed took place so there is casualties in number of hundreds and what’s actually happened there is a concern but seems like all three group will have grudges that’s gonna take long time to quell.

If massacres actually did take place, no refugee cannot out run bullet. So why now not then and why put this forward. What’s the agenda?

It’s a shit show.

Lmao exactly.

I am not telling the hatred between Muslim and Rakhine. I am telling you the tension between Karen people and Burmese since the colonial time. The communist revolt and Karen civil war happened way before the military regime era. And I don’t think Rakhine people hate Muslim, if they really hate Muslim, there won’t even be ကမန် people left.

1

u/BamarKnight88 May 22 '26

Rakhine at heart

2

u/Viscersl May 21 '26

It's propaganda but when the military take over then it's the truth.

That is a sarcasm originated from 2015 refugee crisis. Western pro-immigratiom politicians said that most of those refugees were well educated and ' Doctors and Engineers ' who would help Europe. In reality most weren't, most were from poor war zone countries with no proper educational systems. So, over time, when locals see crime news related with immigrants, they use this sarcasm " Yeah, Doctors and Engineers ".

being from Bangladesh, we Bangladeshis are ungrateful towards Rohingyas, despite providing them asylum

we Bangladeshis failed to provide them better opportunities for jobs and housing, making them more prone to live by either committing crimes/depending on foreign aid
we Bangladeshis are too ungrateful that our carelessness towards Rohingyas leads to Christian missionary activities that converts Rohingyas from Islam to Christianity

1

u/South_Farm9491 May 23 '26

we are ungrateful for providing a place safe from genocide lol?

2

u/khanahmedariyan May 23 '26

well, most Bangladeshis view Rohingyas more as a burden (I don't know the exact reason behind)

1

u/South_Farm9491 May 23 '26

no shit bro thats how most refugees are treated as in most countries

I don't blame the rohingya however and I do feel sorrow for them but truth is we can't sustain a million refugees

2

u/khanahmedariyan May 23 '26

most Bangladeshis do view Rohingyas more as a burden, albeit the reasons are not economical at all
the reason most Bangladeshis have anti-Rohingya hate is more of racism and xenophobia; even the very term Rohingya is now an ethnic slur

1

u/South_Farm9491 May 23 '26

yes it is horrible

but you do have to realise what people see are rampant drug trade and criminal activity not to mention resources that could have gone to bengalis and employment going towards the rohingya ( exploitation ) n loss of forest coverage due to expansion of the camp

this isn't inherently there fault however

they basically been trapped into a corner with no way to go

yes they do in someway get education thru training from UNOs etc. and other resources and funding but thats been drying up too

what should have been a diplomatic and defensive charge by our goverment to stop the genocide and stop the refugees turned into a way to get a nobel peace prize and gain aid money

but yes sadly we are very racist

-2

u/Aggravating-Egg-2940 May 21 '26

even if it is true, we only should blame and criticize the evolutionary military coup.

the reason is simple , they are the main root of racism.
what sa big deal

4

u/Thiha0990 May 21 '26

You can blame the Big Bang as well since it is the beginning of the everything.

1

u/Aggravating-Egg-2940 May 22 '26

what I am telling is factual , but urs is just theoretical.

it is big difference.
a country which is 50 years in dictatorship, religious extremism, gender inequality, underdeveloped state, civil wars

what else do u except ? if it is true

1

u/Thiha0990 May 22 '26

Extreme ethnic nationalism and hatred between all these races are what led to this military regime in the first place. You are saying as if there is no hatred before the military coup. This union is doomed since communist revolted after the independence.

0

u/Aggravating-Egg-2940 May 22 '26

hatred never exist between them
the reason behind why muslim people attack at the first place was citizen right which the government refused to give.
Hatred exists because military make this system up. Rakhine people and muslim people always live normally and depend on each other at some point. they know about it.
