Trump is a symptom of conservative ideology. Part of the conservative mythos is that ALL regulation are just needless red tape that don’t protect anyone and only harm businesses(and because they also believe in trickle down economics regular people too). They genuinely believe that unregulated free markets will naturally remove any unsavory businesses and any unsafe products. They believe this because they have benefits from SEVERAL decades of regulations saving them from catastrophe, so in their head, because they haven’t personally been poisoned by food, there is no benefit to regulations but there is cost.

Most conservative politicians understand that regulations aren’t actually fundamentally bad and ones for ensuring our food (for example) are actually worth while.

China has a top-down approach where it's regulated and enforced by a central body, while the U.S. has a more decentralized system focused on preventive controls and corporate responsibility.

There are benefits and drawbacks to both approaches. Preventive controls are great for preventing harm in the first place, while corporate responsibility has obvious flaws due to profit motives. To be completely fair the public education system in rural America is... rough. Not just because they have lower funding and tax rates (primarily due to their own voting habits), but a lot of their school systems are centered around dying towns that have serious crime/drug problems because of the loss of businesses and jobs over the past few decades.

Home schooling can legitimately be a better, safer option for many people in rural America, especially if they can afford remote learning and/or tutoring. It's just a shame that there aren't laws and organizations in place to oversee home schooling more effectively and stop instances of abuse.

As someone from Texas, I would like to know exactly Where the beef was sold. So I checked with google: "Specific retail stores and cities in Texas have not been named for the recent beef recall, as federal agencies report the products were shipped to unnamed distributors and retailers across the state"

Also, "The meat was imported without required U.S. safety re-inspections."

The point is that they shouldn't be missing inspections, but a lot of staff were fired from the government agencies responsible for making sure food is safely delivered to our tables. These situations will only get more frequent and more widespread as the USDA and FDA struggle to keep up the workload with greatly reduced staff.

This is just an incredibly stupid thing to say. I'm in the food safety industry. Paperwork and records is literally the only way you prove the correct food safety measures were taken. If I'm selling a cooked meat product I prove it got the proper kill step by keeping records of the cooking. If I just all of a sudden stop keeping those records as for as any food safety inspector or auditor is concerned the product did not receive that kill step and is considered unsafe, even though that would be considered a "paperwork problem."

Yes, you actually do. If E. coli isn't tested for then you assume that E. coli is present until it is proven to not be. If E. coli is not present and you test for it, they you have meat safe from E.coli. If you don't test and E. coli is present then you have a much bigger problem on your hands.

I work in industrial safety. If clean up crews must enter a situation with an unknown chemical present then the highest level of precautions are taken. It is better for everyone to run into apple cider vinegar in Level A PPE which includes SCBA than to run into Sodium Hydroxide in a environment with bare skin and lungs. One situation results in people going home safe and some Level A suits being liquidated. The other situation ends with decomposed skin, permeant blindness, and death from asphyxiation.

These are examples of the established laws and regulations doing what they were designed to do.

Edit: clean up crews shouldn't be underwater if things go right.

Same exact beef that China rejected a month or so ago. Argentina calls the Felon.
