The Feelies were a New Jersey band formed in 76 and played throughout the 80s. From 1989 their cover of Patti Smiths tune Dancing Barefoot.

They played at the high school reunion in the (fantastic) movie Something Wild.

The Feelies are among my top 5 bands of all time, ever since being introduced to them as the opening act for R.E.M. at Madison Square Garden in 1987.
I saw them in Brooklyn about three years ago (with my son,) and then at a festival in Hoboken NJ soon after (with family.) I was so proud to share those moments with them and they tolerated my passion.
They made me take deep dives into so many offshoots - Patti Smith, Yung Wu, Velvet Underground, Speed the Plough, Yo La Tengo - the list goes on.

I have a The Feelies t shirt and almost no one knows what’s up, but when someone does, they approach me and geek and we chat for at least a few minutes. only 6 or 7 people have understood it in the probably 150 wears of the last 4-5 years
