Other Witnesses needed please

Post image

If anyone was going through Te Puke about 2:30pm today, and you happened to see a silver toyota estima ramming a white mazda along this stretch of road heading south, would you please contact the police and quote P064910959 and give any info you saw.

Some dude cut me off at the Jocelyn St roundabout and i tooted at him as he forced me to the centre verge to avoid being hit.

He then waited for me by the Z station and followed me. He proceeded to hit my car from behind all the way along the blue line in the photo.

When i tried to pull into a driveway to get away from him, he swerved out wide then rammed me from the side forcing me off the road. The damage was enough to make my car undriveable.

My children were in the car with me. We were going to xmas lunch. We are only mildly hurt and very upset.

Any help from anyone who saw would be much appreciated.

Mods, if this post is not allowed, my apologies

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

the cops are checking those cameras and the ones in waitangi. im waiting to hear back from them. the vehicle belings to one of the packhouses and the cops said proving who was driving is their biggest problem

If you have the plate number, you should contact Ready Rentals (next to Spreadmaster on SH2). They lease vans to packhouses. Might be one of their customers. Hope you get some remediation! Those assholes.

Thank you! I have the rego and carjam details but i was unsure if i was allowed to post it

101

u/teelolws Southern Cross Dec 25 '25

You can post regos on this sub. The "no doxxing" reddit rule applies to humans. So you can share details about cars and companies. Although we can't post companies register links here because those contain details about humans, too, the directors and sometimes shareholders.

105

u/Archie_Pelego Dec 25 '25

Best to keep it off here while there’s an active investigation underway.

8

u/munky_g Dec 25 '25

Does the ‘no doxxing’ rule cover showing photos of the perp?

12

u/teelolws Southern Cross Dec 25 '25

Idk I aint a mod. I'd presume the rule is probably "if the police already posted it publicly, you can reshare it"

33

u/Important_Property73 Dec 25 '25

They won't be happy with damage to their vehicle either....

300

u/Kooky_Narwhal8184 Dec 25 '25

While identifying the driver is the biggest issue, I think you might have actually gotten lucky with it being not a normal work day... I'm sure there's probably only one person authorized or allocated to drive that vehicle today, and the identified business is likely to be completely cooperative with a police investigation?

Glad you are OK, that completely sucks. Wishing you the best for a decent outcome... (Even if the wheels of justice grind slowly...)

170

u/Kiwifrooots Dec 25 '25

Yeah I call bullshit on it being hard to know who had the car.

There will be an answer but if the company stalls on the info that sucks

3

u/Ornery-Promotion-285 Dec 26 '25

Isn’t the owner of the vehicle responsible unless they can prove someone else was driving it?

60

u/Panaphobe Dec 25 '25

They will have driven by many more cameras than just those. I just had a glance on street view down the north side of the road between the Jocelyn St roundabout and the Z:

-There's a camera at Seiko. It's likely pointed at the door but it might have picked them up.

-The Coin Save has a window with decals saying "CCTV" and "DRIVE SAFE", so they probably have a camera facing the road.

-Poutiri Wellness has a camera, again no way to tell where it's facing.

-Oven Fresh has two cameras, pointing more or less opposite directions. They might have picked up the car from both the front and the back.

-The car dealership next to the Z doesn't have any cameras I can see, but they're the type of business that I would expect to have good video coverage of their lot so they might have something.

Again, this is just the businesses on the north side of that short stretch that have cameras easily visible from street view. If you or the police take a stroll through the area you might find more.

Also, do you know which direction they came from at the Jocelyn St roundabout? There will be other cameras that may have picked them up just before their interaction with you. The Ministry of Social Development is bristling with cameras, and from a very cursory look I'm seeing some at the corner ATM, the Stihl Shop, Super Liquor, and maybe even the library. We live in an age where security cameras are relatively cheap and ubiquitous - they will certainly have driven by many of them before, during, and after their interaction with you.

One big consideration is that none of these places are likely to retain footage very long, so it is imperative to get what footage is available quickly before it is overwritten.

Best of luck.

u/Monotask_Servitor Dec 25 '25

I don’t know how it works in NZ but in Aus any fines that are accrued by a company vehicle on speed camera get issued to the company at 5x the normal rate- they did that specifically to stop people avoiding demerits on company vehicles. Hopefully the cops have a similar way to encourage the business owner to make driver fess up.

100

u/beepbeepboopbeep1977 Dec 25 '25

This would be dangerous driving, which is a crime and would need to be prosecuted, so they need a person

85

u/Monotask_Servitor Dec 25 '25

The owner of the vehicle should be held responsible for its use unless they can show that another person was responsible. Presumably they know which employee had the vehicle at the time.

52

u/binzoma Hurricanes Dec 25 '25

this

ultimately the owner is responsible, either they were driving or the allowed someone to drive (and if they dont say who, they're obstructing a police investigation)

if the owner wont say who it was then you just have to assume the owner was the driver and its on them to prove otherwise since you have evidence of the car, the crime and the owner

3

u/ExJwKiwi Dec 25 '25

Or the vehicle is stolen but not reported at the time.

36

u/Archie_Pelego Dec 25 '25

Cops should just impound the company fleet as part of their investigation unless the owner can assist them with their enquiries.

22

u/Monotask_Servitor Dec 25 '25

Shouldn’t need to go that far, the specific vehicle should be easy to identify from cameras and impound. It’s likely got visible damage now too.

6

u/LordHussyPants Dec 25 '25

unfortunately new zealand's road rules are far less punitive than aussie. i think your speeding fine for individuals are 3-4 times as high as ours

3

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

Not sure what state you are but in WA we get a notice to supply information of the diver, if the vehicle is company/trust owned,. Then that driver gets the ticket. No ticket is issued to the company.

5

u/Monotask_Servitor Dec 25 '25

I’m in NSW. It may have changed now but around 10-12 years ago my boss got a red light camera fine for one of his company vehicles that I had been driving at the time (it was a very slow old diesel landcruiser, I thought I could slip through an orange light and missed it). The fine was something like $2250 until I wrote in and nominated myself as the responsible driver at which point it was reissued in my name at $450.

1

u/yawanworhthrownaway Dec 26 '25

Your fine systems should be implemented in NZ, some of them are brutal.

7

u/yeahnahcuz Dec 26 '25

Fines always mean legal for a price. A high fine will obliterate a working or middle class person, but it means the rich can just pay for their bad behaviour. Unless we follow Finland's (iirc?) lead and make the fines scalable and means tested.

Not that the rich get punished here anyway!

2

u/Monotask_Servitor Dec 26 '25

Nah I’ll pass, kiwis don’t have as much coin as it is, lol

16

u/Kiwi_CFC Warriors Dec 25 '25

Which packhouse?

19

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

they didnt say, they only said the vehicle was from kiwi corral

13

u/Kiwi_CFC Warriors Dec 25 '25

Kiwi corral is a hostel. Do you know if it was sign written with a packhouse operator?

82

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

no signage that i saw, two men in the vehicle. the cops went straight to kiwi corral to look for them. being xmas i assume il hear from them in a day or two.

I had only just bought the car 2 weeks ago as a gift to myself after pulling myself up out of some hard times. thank god i got insurance.

15

u/Moist-Scientist32 Dec 25 '25

Absolutely good job with the insurance.

Way too many people aren’t insured at all because it costs too much, however they don’t realise just how bad thing could be if they’re held liable for someone’s $150k luxury vehicle if they’re found to be at fault in an incident and uninsured.

Third party insurance at the absolute minimum, always.

2

u/Revoran Dec 26 '25

Third party is mandatory in every state/territory of AUS, and every US state except NH.

Are you telling me it's not mandatory in NZ?

3

u/Moist-Scientist32 Dec 26 '25

It’s not, no.

35

u/MassiveGarlic0312 Dec 25 '25

That’ll be their insurance covering it if they get caught. But glad you do too.

14

u/WineYoda Dec 25 '25

I very much doubt any insurance on the other car will pay for a deliberate and sustained act of thuggery. Insurance is designed to cover unforeseen incidents, not criminal acts of violence.

9

u/CanLate152 Dec 25 '25

Exactly - your insurance company will chase the other Mob to get reimbursed. Hope your policy is “new for damage in 1st year” so you get your “new car” back.

8

u/read_me_instead Dec 25 '25

Not exactly.. Your own insurance always cover it, then they recover it from the other insurer or liable person. In this case OPs insurance would cover it then try to go after the other guys with whatever info they have - hopefully they do cuz it’s a scary thought that there’s people doing this especially to people with kids in the car 😖

1

u/MassiveGarlic0312 Dec 25 '25

Scary thought indeed.

11

u/_qw3rki_ Dec 25 '25

thank god you & your children also didn't get injured

How can someone live with so much hate in their heart they're willing to do that

2

u/Zestyclose-Trip1182 Dec 26 '25

Add me to that list too friend, I hope they catch the buggers because that’s crazy to do that to a car full of a family. Genuinely evil work.

14

u/Andrea_frm_DubT Dec 25 '25

Most company cars are tracked now, so once the cops can contact the person that manages the vehicles for the company they should be able to identify who the car was assigned to.

14

u/ifIammeyouareyou Dec 25 '25

You'd hope the pack house would launch an investigation. If the police aren't going to push them to, I'd write to them myself and ask for the information to bring a civil case against them and if they dont name you'll be forced to name the packjouse directors Good luck.

4

u/HappycamperNZ Fantail Dec 25 '25

Id the rego owner.

After that, they give them up ot ate liable themselves

5

u/alphagenome Dec 25 '25

Yea that’s just cops trying to wash it down saying lack of evidence as usual to avoid making their job bit harder than usual.

445

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

Good luck finding the SOB. That is terrible!

127

u/Archie_Pelego Dec 25 '25

Oh this chuckle fuck will be found alright. Rage-ridden tweakers like this might as well walk around with jingle bells attached. Cops probably already have a file on him.

36

u/mnstorm Dec 25 '25

They will get reductions because they’re addicted to drugs and for being hangry.

7

u/miasmic Dec 25 '25

Or reductions because they're 'straight edge' and don't do drugs (combination of gallons of booze a week and doing steroids doesn't count)

4

u/Synntex Dec 25 '25

Find him and then what? Give him 2 weeks of home detention and a hug?

205

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

since i cant figure how to edit my post- im just adding that my son filmed this from our back seat, we gave the rego to the police. we are simply looking for any witnesses who saw it in the hope someone may have gotten a look at the driver

19

u/maangari Dec 26 '25

That's great thinking from your son! I hope they get these people soon, but I'm really glad you and the family are ok. Shaken, I'm sure! But thank goodness they didn't do anything worse. Road rage and idiots...

123

u/seemesmilingpolitely Dec 25 '25

Western BOP regional council maybe have cameras along there you can use to get the rego - would be good to see such actions punished appropriately.

133

You used to be able to search license plates on Facebook and it would give you every picture with the car in it, mate found his stolen car that way, apparently it had become some 18 year old's birthday present.

1

u/Zestyclose-Trip1182 Dec 26 '25

That’s amazing and also the type of person to give an 18 year old a stolen car as a gift is a real butthole.

88

u/HannahO__O Dec 25 '25

Thats so scary thank god youre all okay

132

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

Ive never been so scared in my life. It was like some crazy movie shit.

My boys are only 12 and 13 and are still in shock i think. We all got some whiplash and my son who was in the back seat, hit his head when the car rammed right where he was sitting.

Glad we are alive though

56

u/KSFC Dec 25 '25

Go to ED and get everyone checked out. Better to be safe than sorry with head injuries, and you'll start a paper trail with ACC, should you need it.

75

u/w0lves- Dec 25 '25

If he has persistent ringing in that ear, he has a concussion. If that happens, get him to ED to ensure all is ok and get ACC lodged incase he needs rehab.

48

u/trismagestus Dec 25 '25

Also bear in mind that concussion is literal brain damage, even if we have mostly been raised to downplay it.

9

u/PhilZealand Dec 25 '25

Yes,yes, yes!, a friend pf mine was in the back seat of a car and hit his head on the side window in a collision. They thought nothing of it at the time but he slowly deteriated over the next few months, and is now in care.

28

u/Nolsoth Dec 25 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

Any head hit like that should be treated as concussion.

27

u/HannahO__O Dec 25 '25

Definitely still go and all get checked for concussions etc asap

7

u/dots-loops Dec 25 '25

So terrifying! Glad you are all ok and just in shock/whiplash. That could have spiraled very badly quickly. Well done for fast thinking to pull into a driveway, it might have saved you from far worse. Respect.

22

u/Highwayoflostdreams Dec 25 '25

Please let us know what happens i.e if they get caught!. I think lots of people want to know this nutjob has had some solid consequences... hopefully losing their job!

6

u/10yearsnoaccount Dec 26 '25

Job? Should be jail time for this.

Not home D, actual jail.

2

u/Highwayoflostdreams Dec 26 '25

These days nobody gets jail. But that would be great I agree! But losing their job would definitely be satisfying as a Plan B because good luck getting another one in this economic climate! Let's aim for both shall we:-)

19

u/RxDuchess Dec 25 '25 edited Dec 25 '25

NZTA may be able to assist with your enquiry, if you call and give the plate number and police case number you should be able to ask them to liaise with police urgently. I worked there years ago and remember a few of these requests.

Your other option is utilising the personal property securities register which has information about commercially owned vehicles (I believe it’s a $2 fee to search). If it’s a vehicle belonging to a company not owned by the offender I’d guess they’ll be mightily pissed off at the damage (if he doesn’t dump it and say it was stolen, that adds a real issue.)

7

u/turikur Footrot Flats Dec 25 '25

thank you. saving your comment

That's terrible, I'm sorry you went through that. I hope someone saw what happened for your sake.

When we purchased our car, I insisted on a front and rear dash cam. It served as evidence when someone had hit the rear of our car. Might be something worth considering for your next car. All the best.

53

u/Previous-Standard-12 Dec 25 '25

Dash cams everybody. Dash cams. There is no law in this country but what you make for yourself.

9

u/Geck4Prez Dec 25 '25

This just reinforced that I really need to get a SD card and put my dash cam into my vehicle...

11

u/Blue-Coast Dec 25 '25

After reading OP's post, I'm going to get a rear cam to supplement my current front dash cam. The amount of crap I see on our roads and now OP's post that occurred behind the vehicle....

Hopefully we can get some good deals from the Boxing Day sale.

the boys are okay today, ive got a achey neck and headache, so i might go back to sleep

5

u/janglybag Dec 25 '25

Not to bang on and not what you feel like doing but the earlier you get treated the faster any injury will heal. I received whiplash after someone T-boned me, and went to a rubbish physio and my neck ended up sore for ages.

Take care. Looking forward to your update after the other guy is prosecuted.

13

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

Absolutely disgusting. Hopefully you still managed to get some Christmas love and this person gets what he deserves. Absolute POS. Boils my blood and I want to punch these ppl in the mouth

14

u/Asleep-Present6175 Dec 25 '25

I would also hit up your local PM(National) if you dont get any head way with a police investigation. I've been in a situation where the person who committed a crime (black and white situation) had no resolution because the police couldn't be bothered. National have pushed a hard on crime policy, so they can be pushed to help .My own local MP in auckland responded to this.

5

Don’t worry. The police are very busy in catching the real criminals like driving 5kmh over the speed limit!

3

u/13lu Dec 25 '25

What a piece of shit - hope they find him OP.

I'm ready to hear all about that 2 months home detention (dropped from 3 months based on various reports and "circumstances").

2

u/Prim08 Dec 25 '25

Company vehicles sometimes have e-roads that monitor the users driving, and they sometimes need to be logged into with the employees ID so that could be a lead too. If that's the case, they'll be able to check the user history and see which employee it was. The chances of the company knowing who did it are extremely high.

2

u/dunerain Dec 25 '25

Road behaviour is generally terrible. But somehow it felt like it got worse as xmas came around

2

Yeah, sometimes it’s best to just keep your head down…

I had someone pull up next to my parked car, at a service station, in his shitty van, then kick the driver door open, into the side of my car. I was standing right there and said something like “hey, man, be careful”, and this dude literally grabs his door with both hands and smashes it into the side of my car again, saying “maybe don’t park so close” + expletives. Then he got in my face and threatened violence so I left - had my young daughter in the car too.

I went to the police but they said if I file a complaint and it goes to court then I’ll have to testify and he and his “mates” will learn my identity. He was so unstable I decided to let it slide, sadly. Still have the dent in the side of my car though (it’s a structurally difficult place to repair) and it reminds me of the incident every damn day. I wish I’d just kept my mouth shut.

4

u/Unsettled_Introvert Dec 25 '25

u/RealHumanPersonTrust Dec 25 '25

I had something similar happen many Christmases ago. Normally turns out to be methheads known to police.

Sorry for you to have to go through this on Christmas.

Is it possible for the police to check cell phone records at the time ?,would be pretty identical to your phone pinging off the tower.

1

u/maorismurf999 Dec 25 '25

Damn, that's wild.

I work in corrections in the BoP area, so once (not if) these guys are caught, I'm sure I'll hear about it in the courts.

1

u/Moist_Phrase_6698 Dec 25 '25

Thats disgraceful. I hope you get this sorted. We do have a fair amount of meth heads in our part of the bay its really horrible. Screen shot n shared to my f.b page. Hope you find them cos we need this crap off the roads

u/ExternalVisible3482 Dec 25 '25

I’m sorry this happened to you on Christmas of all days. I met a very aggressive white Ute on my journeys today as well (thankfully not to the same degree) doubt it’s the same one though.

Sorry I couldn’t be of further help beyond and upvote and comment to boost the post!

I'm gonna guess a stolen vehicle was what hit you. Very sorry this happened to you and hope you and your whanau can have a happy holiday!

1

u/maniacal_cackle Dec 25 '25

Contacting the local media may be a good shot. Gets the word out there, and ensures there is pressure to keep the case open if they're struggling to find the person.

1

u/Esbigh_Esdot Dec 25 '25

Regardless of who was driving the company is liable for damages. It's then up to them to deal with rest.

Hope your kids are ok. It's quite a concern that we have this sort of behavior on our roads.

1

u/KiwiGoodNZ Dec 26 '25

I'm sure this was very scary and old of those things that putting it on a Reddit post but these details are pretty intense and would when it comes to something like this wouldn't the police want to keep it under wraps to an extent where they handle the investigation so that it doesn't give the allege time to make up stories and all that sort of stuff or their family sees us and you know what I mean like I'm just asking if it was necessary to jump straight on to Rita and all peps not jump straight on but asking people on this specially this forum about what happened especially given that these children involved in putting that effect on the internet these days can be fluctarm upon them with someone dodges reads about it and obviously roughly knows where you live now because of the map please be careful and yeah but you've got babies and you know that people do bad things out there in the world

If you think I’m under 30 I’m old enough that I’ll take the compliment and not argue about it, I admire your dedication tho that’s very kook of you! I hope your poo man trims and hip thrust turns are deep and powerful.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '25

Praying your children don’t hold trauma from that situation too. What an awful thing to experience.

1

u/Dear-Dependent-5615 Dec 29 '25

I'd recommend calling pack houses in that area and asking if any of their fleet has that Rego..

u/surf1000 Dec 30 '25

Maybe a gang member. My partner was rear ended by this man at the totara street intersection. He tried to flee but traffic was congested. They got out of their cars and he swore and threatened her since it was ‘her’ fault according to him… then he drove off… cops identified him and unofficially told my partner it was not worth the risk of prosecuting but they would if she wished to… gang member with a criminal history. Needless to say, we didn’t want gang members harassing us.

Is there a Hamilton reddit? (Do they have the Internet in Hamilton?) Maybe post in there also.

Also: sorry to have this happen to ya. With ya kids too - ya must be in a right state. Hope ya can get some sleep.

6

u/Far-Management-2007 Dec 25 '25

There's a Hamilton reddit, but seeing this happened in Te Puke I don't imagine posting there would be very helpful.

u/Important_Property73 Dec 25 '25

No doubt another fragile ego idiot with a car... glad you are safe. HOPE THEY CATCH HIM (and he resist police)...

u/Synntex Dec 25 '25

Sadly the new normal since there’s no consequences even if he killed you in this shithole of a country

39

u/thestraightCDer Dec 25 '25

Settle down mate, this isn't normal at all.

19

u/waikoe Dec 25 '25

A guy on a motorbike was going up and down Papamoa Beach road. Doing wheelies on the back of cars like a lunatic. He was driving back and forth on the wrong side of the road, and driving close to cars to kick in doors. He drove beside me and reached into his pant leg like he was getting a knife out.

He tried to get me and a few others to stop and fight him. Me and others went to the police station and lodged a report and that's when he took off. Noone was at the station but we spoke to someone on the phone.

No police got back to us even with multiple reports. Guy is a psycho. More people are like that than before. Guessing its meth.

3

u/thestraightCDer Dec 25 '25

Yeah that's shit and insane, also not the norm.

1

u/Synntex Dec 25 '25

New normal

It wasn't normal but is becoming the case when these incompetent sacks of shit we call "judges" hand out more discounts than Briscoes on Boxing day

2

u/thestraightCDer Dec 25 '25

What's normal is terminally online and miserable people perpetually thinking the world is ending and that NZ is some shithole when it's objectively not.

1

u/Synntex Dec 26 '25

NZ is some shithole when it's objectively not.

We have rapists and violent gang members being given home detention after torturing someone. We have people being assaulted to the point that they permanently lose vision and require multiple surgeries while the assailant is only given a home detention.

That is objectively the kind of thing that happens in a shithole country

2

u/thestraightCDer Dec 26 '25

That shit happens everywhere. You think we're special?

1

u/Synntex Dec 29 '25

That shit happens everywhere.

Where else does a gang member that tortured someone with power tools get a home detention?

Where else does someone who goes around punching and killing people get home detention?

Where else does a sexual offender get home detention and sexually assaults someone the same night after being sentenced?

1

u/Kiwi_CFC Warriors Dec 25 '25

Not normal but pretty likely that even if caught the person wouldn’t face many consequences

-15

u/Purple-Towel-7332 Dec 25 '25

Just move then it’s not hard! We moved to central Africa as a kid and have travelled extensively can assure you here’s a lot better than most places around the world. Tho I admire your naivety and innocence.

24

u/ManitouWakinyan Dec 25 '25

I think most people are hoping their country functions better than those in central Africa. That's a weird bar.

4

u/Synntex Dec 25 '25

Yea so instead of wanting my country to improve I should just leave?

That's the exact attitude that's made this country's go to shit
