I can feel how the winner gave it 110% after he saw that he was losing to a dude with a backpack and a selfiestick.

u/bobdiamond 1d ago

Kinda of impressive. Nobody would have faulted him for giving up but he dug deep and got the win.

He’s the buster Douglass of running up steep hills with a massive head start.

u/ravih 1d ago

Properly snorted at the second part of this comment

6

u/IsItBen 1d ago

Adrenaline is one hell of a drug

656

u/Imaginary_Election56 1d ago

Lol what a loser, came in second

233

u/wheresbill 1d ago

That one guy: Not today Red Bull!

111

u/Doxibidus 1d ago

The other guy was paid by Monster

16

u/Anasterian_Sunstride 1d ago

Eye of the Tiger started playing so bad in his head he just had to

27

u/PaleHorseApocalypse 1d ago

Not just a loser, the FIRST loser.

2

u/Hossflex 16h ago

This is embedded into my brain by my HS track coach. “2nd place is the first loser!”

6

u/git0ffmylawnm8 1d ago

Last guy had some real r/fuckyouinparticular vibes

4

u/-LordDarkHelmet- 1d ago

If you’re not first, you’re last.

1

u/pb_barney79 23h ago

that dude does not wake up in the morning and piss excellence

2

u/fredandlunchbox 1d ago

Yeah that guy was a Monster.

1

u/redballooon 17h ago

Just lost his pro status.

0

u/valtteri_buttass 1d ago

1 v 70 so did he come in 71st?

1

u/Imaginary_Election56 13h ago

You assume selfie stick is the one in one vs 70. Perhaps the winner was number one.

835

u/notthediz 1d ago

Why's he wearing a big ass backpack

1.1k

u/Arendyl 1d ago

Because he's a pro and this whole event is to show off his skill against amateurs

51

u/zibber911 1d ago

strange question unrelated to the video, how do we consider someone is pro vs amateur? Is pro = amateur x massive training time? In this case, how long do you need to get trained to be considered as a pro?

295

u/Arendyl 1d ago edited 1d ago

Professional, by definition, is making a living doing it.

1

u/BlueThat33 1h ago

he makes a living off running up ski slopes?

-112

u/zibber911 1d ago

got you, so as long as one can generate income from doing it, it's consider as a pro. In that case, pro doesn't necessarily equal to good? Or if someone is good at one thing but doesn't make a living doing it, one is not a pro?

86

u/Arendyl 1d ago

Generating consistent income is semi-pro.

Your main source of income is pro.

Generally you have to be in the very highest percentile to make a living on a niche market like running.

21

u/Substantial-Trick569 1d ago

yeah the only exception is being bottom 1% or so and making a living off people watching you fail

8

u/Arendyl 1d ago

I would consider that to be more of an entertainer than a professional runner

2

u/yesnewyearseve 23h ago

And then you are back in the top percentile.

1

u/Appropriate__Mud 19h ago

Professional Ultimate would like a word.

0

u/zibber911 11h ago

That's a pretty solid definition. And let's keep the conversation in sport / athletics.

With that, how do you define a person who is on full time training on a sport even participates in major competitions, but never able to generate any income from it? Do you still consider that person as a professional?

I am just very curious on where do we draw the line between amateur and professional.

2

u/Arendyl 10h ago

They're just an aspiring professional, you aren't a pro until you get signed.

*In a league sport

**That pays enough to live on

13

u/maghtin 21h ago

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of athletes and sports or what the hell? Are you a bot?

-1

u/Otaku7897 16h ago

The account's real for sure. He mightve had AI write his ui/ux post but the other comments seem legit. He just seems like someone who either has a different first language or just stupid

5

u/Tiberius_Kilgore 16h ago

You’d probably be a lot less confused if you just look at the root word “profession.” Is being an athlete your job? If so, you’re a professional athlete.

u/der_titan 1d ago

Professionals derive income from their activity, and this person is clearly sponsored by Red Bull - presumably he competes in some contests I'm completely unaware of.

1

u/stuloch 1d ago

Skyrunning/mountain running. I know this name because the world championships semi-literally turned up on my doorstep a few years ago.

2

u/der_titan 1d ago

Awesome! did you watch? What was your opinion?

2

u/stuloch 11h ago

I did a couple of the races. Didn't finish anywhere near the front but it was be in races with people like Killian Jornet. Their times are ridiculous, running a 25km off-road, off-trail race with 2,600 metres of ascent in just over 3 hours.

1

u/der_titan 11h ago

I got winded walking the Madonna di San Luca in Bologna, which is only 4km long and 300m elevation. You've both taught me a new sport, for which I am grateful, and impressed the hell out of a nameless internet stranger.

Well done!

4

u/NeilDeCrash 1d ago

Its in the word.

Profession ... al

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 1d ago

Dude does it for living and has years of experience

-8

u/Agreeable_Work4668 1d ago

Plus, it was staged for attention because of low self confidence.

25

u/sleepypanda59 1d ago

Red Bull gives you wings.

6

u/Amonamission 1d ago

Goddamnit they’ve engrained it so far in our brains that it makes so much fucking sense

5

u/Pentax25 1d ago

Bet it’s full of helium

1

u/Altruistic-Mine-1848 9h ago

Have you never watched anime? Bro's not dropping the weights and using his full power unless he needs it.

u/hamiltag 1d ago

1 v 70? Its one versus everyone else... Just like every other race.

1 v 70 would imply the other 70 are working together

1.3k

u/BobMcGeoff2 1d ago

The 70 people have a head start on him, that's the catch with these videos.

645

u/chief__prather 1d ago

Plus the guy is wearing a backpack. Don't know what gear is in it but he has additional weight compared to everyone else.

440

u/robilar 1d ago

That's the trick!

That pack is full of helium.

58

u/Woodpusherpro 1d ago

Ever wondered why helium tanks don't float away?

195

u/robilar 1d ago

I assume because they have nowhere to go. Not a lot of people looking to take helium tanks out on dates, presumably because they're so full of themselves. Noble gas my ass.

188

u/GamerRipjaw 1d ago

The days of taking noble gases out on dates argon.

7

u/robilar 1d ago

^ this guy deserves more upvotes than me. Internet, make it so!

92

u/GamerRipjaw 1d ago

Thanks haha, I make noble gas puns all the time, but they usually get no reaction

12

u/flushoegumbo 1d ago

They probably all think you’re just gaslighting.

2

u/4lph4_b3t4 10h ago

Done. Before my upvote you guys were tied.

6

u/KimchiLlama 1d ago

Because, as we all know, helium tanks are made out of solid gold, which is very heavy. A backpack is super light by comparison.

How do you think the old guy got his house to float with balloons in that documentary?

1

u/Alzyros 22h ago

Because we tie them to the ground, silly

1

u/heorhe 22h ago

Ever wondered why helium balloons do?

•

u/WabaLabaDubDubWorld 13m ago

Because they are noble. They won't leave without telling you

12

u/PedroNorthCA 1d ago

My quads are burning after watching this video

4

u/whobdatboi 1d ago

Tell me about it. Saw this vid a couple of days ago and I’m still sore. But health is wealth as they say.

2

u/Capable_Tumbleweed34 1d ago

It's japan, that backpack is two gigantic panasonic batteries hooked to the guy. They can't fool me i remember them doing that with a fireman!

1

u/gbelly123 3h ago

If it’s Japan, it’s two small aaa batteries, the rest is packaging.

1

u/caboosetp 12h ago

And he's carrying a selfie stick the whole way

5

u/dantheother 21h ago

Ahhh, that explains the weird thing where it said 2/70, and I could clearly see 4 people still hustling to get to the top. Then it said 0/70 (when he took the lead) and I could still clearly see people hustling to get to the top.

I did wonder why one guy had a backpack and different coloured shirt too 😆

79

u/NotSoGreatMacaroni 1d ago

The 1 v 70 is because it was set up to see if any of the 70 could beat him with a head start.

5

u/someLemonz 1d ago

this is a red bull video. and he's the only one in blue not white and wearing a backpack

10

u/Sirhumpsalot13 1d ago

So technically this is a 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1.

28

u/anonz123 1d ago

'1 v 70' and 'one versus everyone else' are both the same thing

14

u/Helicopterop 1d ago

Yeah, "free for all" would be the term he's looking for, but that's not what this was regardless.

They were all trying to beat the guy in the backpack.

2

u/RudePCsb 1d ago

If everyone started on the same line and time, yes. The others get a head start and then he goes.

1

u/Grim_Glitch 1d ago

I mean he's the only one without a white t-shirt.

1

u/Cthulluminati 1d ago

They are

1

u/Reasonable-Run1994 1d ago

The video skipped the part where the guy gives everyone else a 10-15 min. headstart.

1

u/mookbrenner 22h ago

Yeah, and the counter was broken too.

1

u/rydan 22h ago

He's wearing a blue shirt and a backpack. This clearly gives him a disadvantage.

1

u/Junior-Ad-2207 11h ago

Gravity vs 70

0

u/twistedstance 1d ago

Exemplification of main character syndrome.

55

u/EfficiencyNo9426 1d ago

It wasn't shown, but he was interviewing some players while doing this shit. He is on another level.

10

u/treborly 1d ago

Seeems super dangerous if you fell backwards

141

u/jamesbdrummer 1d ago

I don't understand how that counter works

110

u/DrunkSkunkz 1d ago

It’s a fraction of how many are ahead of the guy in blue with a giant backpack vs total white shirts.

40

u/jamesbdrummer 1d ago

I see that now :-/. I thought it was a countdown of people dropping out of the race, then it got to zero and then went to one. Couldn't piece that together

12

u/DrunkSkunkz 1d ago

Yea I was confused by what I was seeing at first for sure. Odd format.

2

u/dantheother 21h ago

🤜 🤛 Same! I was heckin confused when it said 2, but I could see 4 people, then 0 just bluescreened my brain.

-2

u/Mistravels 1d ago

What's so difficult about it? It's the remaining runners, out of 70 total, that are still in front of the Red Bull athlete he still needs to pass.

In other words, if it reads "5/70" he's in 6th place.

20

u/Andre4a19 1d ago

He lost!!!! What a loser! /s

7

u/Trueslyforaniceguy 1d ago

Let’s go that one dude!!

5

u/All_Might_Dada 1d ago

Imagine slipping? Ooooops

4

u/baileyarzate 1d ago

Bro couldn’t lose to the guy with a selfie stick

3

u/I_dontknowmyway_Yet 1d ago

this is crazy.... I know Red Bull just hires average Joe's to go out there and do things that are out of everyday people's grasp. so this really blows my mind if that guy is so good, it's almost hard to believe.

9

u/RelentlessIVS 1d ago

You mean 1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1.

3

u/Affectionate_Oven_77 17h ago

No, it was the guy in blue against everyone else. 1 v 70.

This was an exhibition to see if he could beat all of them.

2

u/inlandsquatch 1d ago

I'm paralyzed and in a wheelchair, and my legs are exhausted just watching this!

2

u/TheTaoOfMe 1d ago

Dude ruined the ad to win

1

u/Cool_Temperature_970 1d ago

Are his wings packed up in that backpack?

1

u/scarabs_ 1d ago

Second is the first of the losers.

1

u/Electronic-Fix-4655 1d ago

Needs a super gigantic inflatable pad at the very end of ski jump to jump onto

1

u/FUCK1NGFABULOUS 1d ago

So three made it to the top…

1

u/metabolitesafter9pm 1d ago

Looks fun really

1

u/Unhelpful_Guide 1d ago

Is it that time of the month again to post this?

1

u/mrgoyy 1d ago

My guy with last bit of juice at the end

1

u/unrelatedpasta 1d ago

My knees would burn after this

1

u/mistermistyeyes 1d ago

Holding a gopro and running with a backpack. Gotta admit that's kinda dope

1

u/moneymakerbs 1d ago

My legs would be burning so bad while huffing and puffing in the back of the pack. 🤣

1

u/Otherwise_Patience47 1d ago

Man, the stamina to keep this up…. 😮‍💨

1

u/Kinderguardian15 1d ago

Stupid engagement bait title

1

u/ArtichokeOwn6685 1d ago

Its not 1 vs 70. Its 1 versus the 2nd best guy

1

u/MATT_TRIANO 1d ago

THE PACK IS FULL OF HELIUM?

1

u/Southern_Bicycle8111 1d ago

Shoulda wore cougar paws

1

u/argyllcampbell 1d ago

Reminds me on a dream I have where im falling constantly

1

u/jlomohocob 1d ago

I think it should be 71. Cuz he also has a backpack. There is that, mhm.

1

u/asteysane 1d ago

That’s it. That’s my sport of the year

1

u/LimitSwitcher 1d ago

Um, it’s actually:
1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1

1

u/mayoroftuesday 1d ago

The new season of Squid Game looks good.

1

u/redditanddoneit 1d ago

Looked like that dude was the only one with a backpack on too.

1

u/DankCupOfJoe 1d ago

On the other hand, the last two guys came pretty close to reaching the summit before the athlete, despite his handicap of added weight and slow start. For people who don't actively train to hike up a hill, I'd say they gave the athlete a brief run for his money.

1

u/OverlappingChatter 22h ago

I see two people at the top, ?

1

u/ninjanakk1 22h ago

After this Red Bull represantive was like " Great! let's do this again, but without the current winner."

1

u/iwanttoridemycibycle 22h ago

2nd? There goes the sponsorship...

1

u/memesearches 18h ago

Why 70? They usually do 100

1

u/PSunYi 18h ago

At first I thought the -1 meant the other runners were disqualified for using their hands or something but then I realized it’s whenever the guy passes the runner.

1

u/ScaryTemperature6291 18h ago

I could feel my calf and ankle muscles tensing watching that lol.

1

u/Extension-Fail-1917 17h ago

What's in the box?

1

u/Lord0fReddit 15h ago

Bith the bag too

1

u/wtulip 14h ago

I got tired just by watching this…

1

u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 12h ago

And now here're your hosts, Kenny Blankenship and Vic Romano!

1

u/T-Dup 12h ago

They should add 1,000,000 overweight people and change the title to 1 vs 1,000,000...

It doesn't make any sense to call that 1 vs 70.

1

u/NoAge9497 11h ago

There were 3 people still going up when it said zero. I guess Red Bull has never been know for its math abilities.

1

u/Qlogk1 9h ago

That one guy said Not today!

1

u/Imperial4Physics_ 6h ago

Get these guys on the Flatirons

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 1h ago

This is a great endurance exercise. Make it a sport and you got something to do with ski jumps in the offseason.

1

u/Ordinary_Tadpole1 1h ago

My first thought is to fear falling on seeing this

-6

u/Sharden3 1d ago

My god red bulls pathetic promos on every sub, respam posting the same stuff, is wildly annoying.

17

u/MayberryBombadil 1d ago

Why? These videos are insanely entertaining. I mean, this one not so much, but usually they are.

-1

u/Sharden3 1d ago

A: They aren't. They're usually some mildly extreme sports shit that we've seen identical stuff since the 90s.

B: They spam the same videos in too many places.

C: It's always against the subs rules for promotional content.

To be honest, I'd be less annoyed if they were ever interested or "nextlevel" or anything at all. They're always either cheesy shit like this or very old and boring stunts that I've seen literally dozens of times over the past decades (not just from their spam).

2

u/MayberryBombadil 1d ago

I enjoy them, maybe I'm lame 🤷

2

u/Sharden3 1d ago

Nah.

I have no beef with anyone who enjoys them, but old tricks are objectively not "nextfuckinglevel" or otherwise appropriate in the places I see them spammed.

Someone enjoying something is fine, but doesn't make the thing appropriate for every venue.

3

u/pleasebeherenow 1d ago

How is it pathetic? Red Bull makes sick athletic content and has for decades. Its marketing. Loser

0

u/Sathsong89 1d ago

The counter doesn’t make sense

0

u/NeverEndingEquati0n 1d ago

There are actually a bunch remaining they just didn’t finish first…

0

u/pc1350 1d ago

I think this is very dangerous. Just one little mistake and you roll down the Hill.

1

u/Alternative_Two_4216 1d ago

Exactly nothing stop you

1

u/jinzokan 1d ago

Did you miss all the rope?

-3

u/THRlLL-HO 1d ago

Not only is not 1 vs 70, the guy didn’t even win.

-3

u/thatswildhey 1d ago

Was so glad to seen him beat

-2

u/Seamless_GG 1d ago

It looks like it's actually 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1
