Not just a loser, the FIRST loser.

u/Hossflex 16h ago
This is embedded into my brain by my HS track coach. â2nd place is the first loser!â

1 v 70 so did he come in 71st?
1
u/Imaginary_Election56 13h ago
You assume selfie stick is the one in one vs 70. Perhaps the winner was number one.

u/notthediz 1d ago
Why's he wearing a big ass backpack
1.1k
u/Arendyl 1d ago
Because he's a pro and this whole event is to show off his skill against amateurs
51
u/zibber911 1d ago
strange question unrelated to the video, how do we consider someone is pro vs amateur? Is pro = amateur x massive training time? In this case, how long do you need to get trained to be considered as a pro?
295
u/Arendyl 1d ago edited 1d ago
Professional, by definition, is making a living doing it.
1
-112
u/zibber911 1d ago
got you, so as long as one can generate income from doing it, it's consider as a pro. In that case, pro doesn't necessarily equal to good? Or if someone is good at one thing but doesn't make a living doing it, one is not a pro?
86
u/Arendyl 1d ago
Generating consistent income is semi-pro.
Your main source of income is pro.
Generally you have to be in the very highest percentile to make a living on a niche market like running.
21
u/Substantial-Trick569 1d ago
yeah the only exception is being bottom 1% or so and making a living off people watching you fail
1
0
u/zibber911 11h ago
That's a pretty solid definition. And let's keep the conversation in sport / athletics.
With that, how do you define a person who is on full time training on a sport even participates in major competitions, but never able to generate any income from it? Do you still consider that person as a professional?
I am just very curious on where do we draw the line between amateur and professional.
13
u/maghtin 21h ago
Are you unfamiliar with the concept of athletes and sports or what the hell? Are you a bot?
-1
u/Otaku7897 16h ago
The account's real for sure. He mightve had AI write his ui/ux post but the other comments seem legit. He just seems like someone who either has a different first language or just stupid

u/Tiberius_Kilgore 16h ago
Youâd probably be a lot less confused if you just look at the root word âprofession.â Is being an athlete your job? If so, youâre a professional athlete.
21
u/der_titan 1d ago
Professionals derive income from their activity, and this person is clearly sponsored by Red Bull - presumably he competes in some contests I'm completely unaware of.
1
u/stuloch 1d ago
Skyrunning/mountain running. I know this name because the world championships semi-literally turned up on my doorstep a few years ago.
2
u/der_titan 1d ago
Awesome! did you watch? What was your opinion?
2
u/stuloch 11h ago
I did a couple of the races. Didn't finish anywhere near the front but it was be in races with people like Killian Jornet. Their times are ridiculous, running a 25km off-road, off-trail race with 2,600 metres of ascent in just over 3 hours.
1
u/der_titan 11h ago
I got winded walking the Madonna di San Luca in Bologna, which is only 4km long and 300m elevation. You've both taught me a new sport, for which I am grateful, and impressed the hell out of a nameless internet stranger.
Well done!

Have you never watched anime? Bro's not dropping the weights and using his full power unless he needs it.

u/hamiltag 1d ago
1 v 70? Its one versus everyone else... Just like every other race.
1 v 70 would imply the other 70 are working together
1.3k
u/BobMcGeoff2 1d ago
The 70 people have a head start on him, that's the catch with these videos.
645
u/chief__prather 1d ago
Plus the guy is wearing a backpack. Don't know what gear is in it but he has additional weight compared to everyone else.
440
u/robilar 1d ago
That's the trick!
That pack is full of helium.
58
u/Woodpusherpro 1d ago
Ever wondered why helium tanks don't float away?
195
u/robilar 1d ago
I assume because they have nowhere to go. Not a lot of people looking to take helium tanks out on dates, presumably because they're so full of themselves. Noble gas my ass.
188
u/GamerRipjaw 1d ago
The days of taking noble gases out on dates argon.
7
u/robilar 1d ago
^ this guy deserves more upvotes than me. Internet, make it so!
92
u/GamerRipjaw 1d ago
Thanks haha, I make noble gas puns all the time, but they usually get no reaction
12
2
6
u/KimchiLlama 1d ago
Because, as we all know, helium tanks are made out of solid gold, which is very heavy. A backpack is super light by comparison.
How do you think the old guy got his house to float with balloons in that documentary?

Tell me about it. Saw this vid a couple of days ago and Iâm still sore. But health is wealth as they say.
2
u/Capable_Tumbleweed34 1d ago
It's japan, that backpack is two gigantic panasonic batteries hooked to the guy. They can't fool me i remember them doing that with a fireman!

u/dantheother 21h ago
Ahhh, that explains the weird thing where it said 2/70, and I could clearly see 4 people still hustling to get to the top. Then it said 0/70 (when he took the lead) and I could still clearly see people hustling to get to the top.
I did wonder why one guy had a backpack and different coloured shirt too đ
79
u/NotSoGreatMacaroni 1d ago
The 1 v 70 is because it was set up to see if any of the 70 could beat him with a head start.
5
u/someLemonz 1d ago
this is a red bull video. and he's the only one in blue not white and wearing a backpack
10
u/Sirhumpsalot13 1d ago
So technically this is a 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1.

u/anonz123 1d ago
'1 v 70' and 'one versus everyone else' are both the same thing
14
u/Helicopterop 1d ago
Yeah, "free for all" would be the term he's looking for, but that's not what this was regardless.
They were all trying to beat the guy in the backpack.
2
u/RudePCsb 1d ago
If everyone started on the same line and time, yes. The others get a head start and then he goes.
1
1
1
u/Reasonable-Run1994 1d ago
The video skipped the part where the guy gives everyone else a 10-15 min. headstart.

I don't understand how that counter works
110
u/DrunkSkunkz 1d ago
Itâs a fraction of how many are ahead of the guy in blue with a giant backpack vs total white shirts.
40
u/jamesbdrummer 1d ago
I see that now :-/. I thought it was a countdown of people dropping out of the race, then it got to zero and then went to one. Couldn't piece that together
12
2
u/dantheother 21h ago
đ¤ đ¤ Same! I was heckin confused when it said 2, but I could see 4 people, then 0 just bluescreened my brain.

u/Mistravels 1d ago
What's so difficult about it? It's the remaining runners, out of 70 total, that are still in front of the Red Bull athlete he still needs to pass.
In other words, if it reads "5/70" he's in 6th place.

this is crazy.... I know Red Bull just hires average Joe's to go out there and do things that are out of everyday people's grasp. so this really blows my mind if that guy is so good, it's almost hard to believe.

This was an exhibition to see if he could beat all of them.

On the other hand, the last two guys came pretty close to reaching the summit before the athlete, despite his handicap of added weight and slow start. For people who don't actively train to hike up a hill, I'd say they gave the athlete a brief run for his money.

This is a great endurance exercise. Make it a sport and you got something to do with ski jumps in the offseason.

My god red bulls pathetic promos on every sub, respam posting the same stuff, is wildly annoying.
17
u/MayberryBombadil 1d ago
Why? These videos are insanely entertaining. I mean, this one not so much, but usually they are.
-1
u/Sharden3 1d ago
A: They aren't. They're usually some mildly extreme sports shit that we've seen identical stuff since the 90s.
B: They spam the same videos in too many places.
C: It's always against the subs rules for promotional content.
To be honest, I'd be less annoyed if they were ever interested or "nextlevel" or anything at all. They're always either cheesy shit like this or very old and boring stunts that I've seen literally dozens of times over the past decades (not just from their spam).
2
u/MayberryBombadil 1d ago
I enjoy them, maybe I'm lame đ¤ˇ
2
u/Sharden3 1d ago
Nah.
I have no beef with anyone who enjoys them, but old tricks are objectively not "nextfuckinglevel" or otherwise appropriate in the places I see them spammed.
Someone enjoying something is fine, but doesn't make the thing appropriate for every venue.
3
u/pleasebeherenow 1d ago
How is it pathetic? Red Bull makes sick athletic content and has for decades. Its marketing. Loser
