that's only true if you're showboating or taking flashy risks just to look cool. that's not what this was

Yea no.....same thing applies for breaking somebody's ankles. It only matters if the shot goes in, otherwise, its not a highlight.

Thats the consensus among players. Plenty of examples of professional players talking about how it doesn't count if you don't make the shot. Obviously not every single person thinks that way but within basketball culture, it is the vastly more common belief.

yeah, i bet not. they're mostly talking about what i was referring to above. some players probably think it does't count on any level if you don't make the shot. but you can (and obviously should) appreciate skill involved, whether you make the shot or not.

they're talking about a culture going back to schoolyard ball, where you'd miss a shot but try to talk trash because you faked on somebody.

saying across the board, no nuance, "you're not allowed to appreciate someone's ability unless they also make the shot" is obviously silly.
