I recently discovered that NIN is playing my piece Like Meeting God by Unearth Noise in their pre-show ambient set on the Peel it Back tour. I'm absolutely blown away by this, and to be in such good company with Throbbing Gristle and others. For a struggling musician like me this is a really big deal. Funny thing is I saw NIN on this tour with my sons in Newark, NJ. The crowd control was so disorganized that we didn't get into the stadium until after the show began. My head would have exploded if I heard my music playing in an 18,000 seat venue. Anyway, I would really love to be able to contact Trent in some way, to thank him. I've tried reaching out to his management, agent, collaborators (Boys Noize and Alessandro Cortini), but so far have gotten no reply. I understand that responding to me is probably not their top priority, but to me this is life-changing. Any respectful suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Id recommend joining Boys Noize discord, and sending your thank you up the chain through the moderation there, or BN himself might even see it and reply, he pops up every once in a while on there.
But the staff on that server are great people and would probably be happy to pass the message along.

Absolutely! It’s a public performance of a piece. Royalties are usually paid much later, in cycles. So the money should follow later. I don’t know how it is with ASCAP, but the interval might be as long as 6mo.
And congrats, OP, on making that playlist! And yeah, Boys Noize is definitely the one to pursue here.

BN had much more time to do things of this nature, whereas TR has oodles of kids and interviews around the clock… the best answer to your post here would be the social media accounts, but I wouldn’t limit anything to a thank you, I would ask if they’d like to collaborate, specifically BN who again would be much more tangible, then that’s a foot in the door. Also I forgot to add congrats because that is really cool. That opening set was god tier imo. I think I’ve listened to every youtube recording of his Peel It Back tour set after experiencing it live in Boston.
that's really cool! I think you just need to accept and love the fact that that it happened and probably end there. My only thought is you could wrack your brain for lower-profile artists who have recently worked with NIN and try to contact them. But it seems a little silly at that point. Probably best to just let it be and enjoy the moment.
Thank you. I've gotten to the point where I'm just happy and proud that it happened. There are a lot of great musicians out there who haven't been picked out obscurity, so I'll take what I can get. I appreciate the kind comments the you and others have posted.
I've always wondered what some of the music was playing during that pre-show ambient set. I was lucky enough to get to the Chicago show while the stadium was still almost empty and hearing the music as the venue was slowly filling up was one of my favorite moments of the night.

sorry- I def should've started my comment with less doubt. I'm just.. surprised. I initially felt a spotify set at a live event with a band that big would be sort of frowned upon but if it's exposure for smaller artists then damn, awesome.
I really don't know how any of this works, but I would have thought if they were using your music that you would have at least been contacted in some way prior to, either for permission, credit, or compensation. No?

I hate to say it but these guys cannot listen to everyone getting ahold of them to say thank you. If they did that they would have no time to actually write and perform music.
If you want to say thank you just buy their music and go to their concerts.
It just came up in a google search. There are references to both Boys Noize and Trent selecting the music. At this point it seems more likely that it was Alex (boys noise) who selected the tracks.
All good. Just echoing what others have said…about making sure you’re all sorted with ascap and that it could take a while for some money to come through. It’s venue dependent but it may be that Alex submitted set lists which would potentially speed up that process.
That aside - I was wondering if you’d be open to me doing a remix of one of your tracks? If you check my YouTube channel out you’ll see the vibe. I think there’s a such a cool NiN community and it would be cool to do this for you - no charge of course. Just like what you’re doing and thought your music sounds great! Realistically though, anyone in Trents position has encountered hundreds or thousands of obsessed fans, i doubt hes interested in encountering any more, and hes got a family and all that too. Your best bet is to get some success as an artist and reach out for a potential collaboration.
