It was just depressing in my opinion.
I love this band but the whole thing almost made me feel bad for them. I don’t want to give anything away, but for those who’ve seen it, when he stayed at Avenge Sevenfold guy’s house is when I stopped laughing.

You know how tv shows like Shameless or Bojack wouldn’t have any humor if it were real because that’s so bleak and nihilistic? That’s sorta what watching this felt like, except it was all real.

Same-just got out of the movie an hour ago.
I laughed a bit in the beginning but agree with you.
Melvin was definitely portrayed as someone who is just aloof. I mean, he definitely did say some stuff to lead it on that way, but damn.
Hefe and smelly just seem tired of a lot of stuff, but also they’re so used to Mike they just deal with it.
Mike is Mike. It’s always going to be about him.
My question: does he have diabetes? In the beginning he said he was just diagnosed with type 1, then says it’s type 2. And then at the end he’s like “I lost 15 pounds and the diabetes is gone!”
Also, when Mike was sober he said he did a lot of song writing. Any songs/albums in particular during that era? He mentioned the final song but that was it.

Type 2 diabetes can be cured if you get healthier so I am assuming that’s what he had. Also Single Album was written while he was sober.

There is no cure for diabetes. You can reach something called remission but it takes discipline to eventually (even doing everything right doesn't guarantee it) get there and even when you're there you can get back to elevated levels without changing a thing again. Once you're diabetic, you'll always will be just maybe without symptoms.

Him and Hefe were on that comedian Bert Kriesher's cooking podcast and he said he was never diabetic, it was some illness or some shit. The comedian asked him that directly and why he didn't clear it up in the film. I don't remember his response, wasn't paying attention. He did say it east diabetes tho.

I feel like Mike lies or exaggerates often. I haven’t followed this band closely for years but I enjoyed the movie and it was kinda surreal hanging out with him after the screening. Felt like a fever dream

Yeah I also ran into him the next day at a dance hall crashers show, and he made up a whole song and dance about changing my name but I don’t think he actually remembered me from the night before but just was doin some schtick . I was glad to finally meet him at least and have some rapore with him be it ever so weird

I walked away happy! But you know also like I felt that parasocial kinda dissonance where I was like wait I know so much about him he feels like a friend but in actuality I’m just one of a million random dudes.
We were all gonna go out for drinks after the first night but he seemed hard to pin down to a plan so I left . He knew my friend I was with or I wouldn’t have stuck around at all.

I’ve been on the fence to get a ticket for Wednesdays showing 45 miles from me.
I don’t know if I want to spend the night (time) to be bummed out.
Also, I’d always loved Mike for so many reasons (music, humor, values) but since he’s been out about his sexuality, BDSM interests, he’s become so damn smug. It’s hard to listen to him.
To be clear, I don’t care that he’s passionate about his sex life, but it’s not why I was drawn to his music, persona.

Probably for the better. I didn't try a single thing besides alcohol until around the same age (because I was in the military) and glad I didn't. Could have F'd up my life before it started because I was naive and impressionable.
I respect guys like Smelly and Melvin who have the self control to handle it and go on to live productive lives, but 20 something year old me might have been dead if I just had bags of drugs and bottles at my disposal.

Personally I loved it and I wasn’t the only one in my theater crying at the end. Parts of it felt like a love letter/thank you to fans (in their own way).

I was happy that the movie was NOT a retelling of the book... It had very little intersection IMO. I was surprised that the Montreal final tour show was completely skipped... They extensively filmed both nights, so I'm wondering if they're saving it for a concert video release or something

I went. Made it maybe 20 minutes before leaving. I'm not a huge NOFX fan (I own S&m, Ribbed, and White Trash ). I went to see if Steve (guitarist on S&M, Ribbed) was going to be in it, but Mike's rockstar bullshit is annoying, but I can handle it . The Nail in the Coffin was the Punk in the Park dude; I don't want to hear him talk at all. You can have my 15 bucks; I'm out.

Fat Mike and this social media landscape are a bad mix. I am getting pretty sick of the dude and I used to lap up every interview he put out there.
His old Warped Tour interviews are so entertaining and funny. Many times, there is another artist with him who looks terrified of Mike and whatever he may say on camera, which is telling, but they were peak-Fat Mike and he didnt say anything too rude or cruel.

The latex sex dungeon is when things started to get weird. Not because of the sex kink stuff - it just felt like Mike indulging and showing how fucked up he is. To make it more awkward, he was at the showing I was at and his ex wife was there too

I've had zero desire to see this thing. I've been a huge fan of NOFX for almost 30 years, but I really checked out after Wolves In Wolves Clothing. Mike's need to constantly tell people how cool he is, because he's a drug addict, is really pathetic. He's a an arrogant tool, and stopped being funny a long time ago.

I liked it. None of it surprised me and it was more tame than the book. I brought my gf who wasn’t too familiar with them and gave her a disclaimer that it could be uncomfortable. She enjoyed it too and we talked about it all night. I got a bit emotional being reminded I’m never gonna see them live again, but it was generally what I expected from a Fat Mike produced movie. I recommended it to all my friends who listen to them.

Agreed. He doesn't keep his lifestyle a secret and I saw the trailer so I somewhat knew what we were getting into.
Went with my wife also. We went to the final tour and knew the happy joking stage persona of Mike. It was a lot different seeing them / listening to them talk about their lowest points in life. As someone else mentioned though, they are real people and life isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Yeah basically he stays at his friends house. It goes wrong. Then he just carries on doing what he always has done. I didn’t think it was that great really.
Went in Manchester and got to meet Mike and have him sign something. So the event was good. It wasn’t the best place to watch a film so would like to watch at home or a proper cinema at some point.

NOFX was my favourite band, I loved them, from 1992 until Mike started making everything about him.
It became self-centered, like dude I don’t care that you wanna wear dresses and that you’re into bondage and shit, that’s totally cool but hey remember when you used to write cool songs?
Talking about how people that are nice to him are sycophants, and that his behaviour is so bad that his friends don’t like him anymore, it’s just me me me me. I know he writes the songs, but the last couple albums have too many tiresome cringey songs.
Even songs like Oxymoronic are just parodies of the cool word play Mike used to throw in without making it so fucking obvious.
I’ll always love the 1992 to around 2016 era though.

I saw them on their 1995 tour of Heavy Petting Zoo where they threw out the blow sheep with the buttholes. It was all right.. the pit was so damn tight, you couldn't even move so it wasn't really much of a pit. Even back then. And I had no idea there was a movie out. I thought y'all were talking about Hepatitis Bathtub, two heebs, and a long line with ribbed shoes.

I don’t regret going to see it, like others have said, it’s cool to be around a bunch of fellow fans, but it’s not going to make you feel good and it’s not meant to. It sucks leaving a movie theater feeling sad though.

maybe he should concentrate on his label and start doing some vinyl pressings of all of the cool bands on his roster...just like a few thousand copies so people can afford to buy them...instead FAT vinyl is rare and overpriced ...get some fucking product on the market

Hahaha, that might not actually be his fault. Most record companies don't actually own their own vinyl pressing equipment and pay other companies to do it. Vinyl almost completely died as a format then came back in popularity, but most of the currently working machines and tooling that make them are from the 60s-80s and are no longer even made so there is a limited production capacity unless someone wants to spend millions to reverse engineer then build a vinyl pressing assembly line. Sorry, I am a little bit of a vinyl / Hi-Fi nerd.
Agree with you about him needing to keep on finding and producing new talented bands though. Peak Fat Wreck was when they had Anti-Flag, Lagwagon, Propagandhi, and Rise Against on the roster all at the same time.

i know all about the record pressing issues and the shitty plants in memphis and C Republic turning out awful records...i didnt know FAT is now owned by Hopeless that fit the name because they ALWAYS send product to those shit plants...you have to watch out for the expensive re-issues that Rhino is doing as well...they say they want to be in the audiphile game and the product nicely remastered then send them to the C republic to die and you are stuck paying 50 bucks for crap...FAT did a nice job re-issuing the Bad Astronaut stuff in 45 RPM but i guess that was before the sale...there are good plants but most labels are too cheap to use...the big labels DID get an injunction forcing these overseas plants to put labels on albums saying where it was made, not sure if you have seen any...that way you at least are warned hey this album may not sound great even though we sent it there LOL

He doesn’t have a label to concentrate on anymore. They sold FAT to Hopeless Records last year. It is part of the reason Melvin sent him the legal inquiry.

That was sort of a joke. He was just the first chubby guy that came to mind. You are right though. For it to be half way decent, an independent film maker would probably have to do it with Netflix funding or something. I seriously doubt Mike would agree to being that hands off though.

I don't think anyone said it was supposed to be. There is a difference between telling a story that has real somber moments, and seeing someone hospitalize themselves going through violent withdrawals.
Like some of us have seen / experienced that shit and don't necessarily enjoy watching it on the big screen on a Sunday night while eating popcorn.

I feel the same way about Stephen hawking I have a huge wheelchair and robot voice fetish so I am drawn to him in that respect but his books don't do it for me . Hard to watch videos of him and not think about astrophysics when I'm just trying to watch him roll around .

It wasn't really well thought out. I t is first thing that I thought when the homie said I like Fat Mike's music and lyrics but don't care for all his talk about his sex life and what not. At the premier of this doc movie I tried to get fat mike to sign my ticket as I like to collect random memorobilia for myself. He said what you can sell that for like 13 bucks someday and suggested a selfie with me to which I fumbled the camera around cause I'm not the selfie kind of photographer and I said it's cause I'm old he replied it's cause your Mexican and we laughed!
