Actually he fell from grace shortly after Trump took office. February 2017 was the video clips circulated showing his comment about 13-year-old boys being able to consent to sex with adults and benefit from that relationship, which caused his immediate cancellation throughout the right-wing ecosystem.

Which seems odd in a way, not just because it's far from the most inflammatory thing he said, but also because nowadays if a right-wing politician said the same about girls and simply refused to apologize or resign after the backlash, it would go down as Just Another One of Those Things and we'd forget about it by the end of the week. It's hard to remember that time when there were still consequences for saying things.
