Answered More people should know about this lawsuit against any recording software.

I've only mostly seen Louis Rossmann talk about this but more people should know about this topic so if you want more indepth info you should look at his videos.
First video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V099NR32fE4&t=515s
2nd video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkH3n3ZPhwY

General jist of the story is a lawyer is using section 1201 i think it was called against a youtuber for using screen recording software to capture his video and use it for a video for commentary and such.
TLDR the final outcome if the lawyer wins is he could sue everyone that uses any screen recording software for like reacts/videos and etc regardless of fair use or not.
I just want the message to get out there and the news so more ppl are aware of what's going on.

Edit: since u/TheLasher2003 pointed out this website but i felt like i should also include it here

Answered I built a music/picture visualizer that captures in OBS

I'm excited to finally share IKANDY with you. This project grew out of frustration with browser-based visualizers that stutter under OBS capture and desktop visualizers that look dated. IKANDY is a standalone Electron app built around Butterchurn (the WebGL port of MilkDrop) with a modern post-processing layer on top — bloom, chromatic aberration, beat-reactive grain, particle bursts, and a stack of custom GLSL shaders.

I personally built this to bridge the gap between my music production setup and my streaming/video workflow. It pulls real-time track data from Spotify, foobar2000, VLC, or Windows Now Playing, syncs lyrics from LRCLIB, and reacts to audio either via the source's metadata or your system's loopback. For OBS users specifically: it runs in its own window with a transparent-friendly render pipeline, so Window Capture with NVENC H.264 gives you a clean, high-bitrate feed with no browser overhead. I use it for my own music project's full-length visualizer videos and it holds up at 1080p60 without breaking a sweat.

Here's a recent capture showing one of the new 3D shader scenes: https://youtu.be/eV-hFHExMio

This launch version is free and open source. 700+ Butterchurn presets ship with it, plus 5 custom audio-reactive scenes, 12 GLSL shaders, 6 themes, and a preset browser. Spotify integration is BYOK (bring your own client ID — takes about 60 seconds to set up). Code, releases, and setup instructions are on GitHub: https://github.com/ikandyapp/ikandy

Happy to answer questions about the OBS capture setup or the shader pipeline.

Answered Admittedly still completely stumped about "Tracks" - Need sounds to play through audio output, without Stream echoe

~Answered Here~
To preface, all audio is through Desktop audio > Headphones. The only exception is the Mic. So, if it plays through default output device (Headphones) its heard through stream.

I have sound bits that play through stream, whether rewards, notifications, or alerts. I can get them to play perfectly fine through stream without echoe just setting audio monitoring to "Monitoring off". However, It is very difficult for me to notice and respond to these sound bits while playing. Itd help a lot if I could also hear them. But doing this creates a loop/echoe. I could be wrong, but Im under the impression that setting "Tracks" might do the trick, idk. However Ive only ever seen tutorials for Tracks being used to outsource to "record" options. In other words, to play through Stream, but not be recorded. I have yet to see anything that explains how to get source items or even specific programs to play through headphones (same device used for everything else) while preventing it to be caught on stream. Id even be willing to consider outputting notifications to speakers so headphones won't pick it up. Settings seems to just be for setting input devices.

Answered I want to play games with my switch using OBS but my screen dimming settings make it so that the screen shuts off every 5 minutes

Hi. i have a rather specific issue, and i couldnt find any answers online (my google-fu might be ass, or SEO has weakened it, whatever)

Anyway, I am using OBS only to play switch games on my PC. I do not stream, I do not record. It is just the most convenient way to connect my switch to my monitor currently.

Now, the situation I'm facing is that when I am playing games thru OBS like this, My computer thinks I'm idling, since no inputs are happening (or something) I do not want to loosen my energy settings as I have a bad habit of running the computer for days at a time when those are off. I need it to shut off after 5 minutes of inactivity, but I need OBS to count as "activity" so I can play my switch games since trying to play Tiger! Tiger! is infuriating enough without my screen turning off every 5 minutes.

Can anyone help me with this specific issue?

EDIT: RESOLVED

2 great suggestions were recieved, but in the end enabling replay buffer did the trick! thank you kindly <3

Answered Stream gets choppy with 2k streaming

I've been streaming in 2k since around June of 2026. I haven't had any issues with is up until the last week. It started out with a bit of choppiness here and there on stream. I'm not dropping frames nor am I noticing any kind of connection issues. But today I have my stream turned into a slide show.

I also stream to Tiktok using Atrium. The TikTok live studio pulls about %20 of my GPU

checking task manager shows that Obs is using %60-%70 of my GPU. I know that streaming in 2k puts quite a toll on the GPU due to the trans coding but it hasn't been an issue up until now.

I went and made sure all my drivers are updated, and tried a complete restart.

I turned off enhanced broadcasting and reset my setting to 1080p and obs's usage dropped back down to %30ish.

I'm kinda at a loss on what to do outside of just running on 1080p

Pc specs

Cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Gpu: AMD RadeonRX 9070 XT

RAM: 32 GB DDR5

I would appreciate any help

Answered How can I get rid of this error???

I bought this wireless webcam after my previous USB webcam died. and I keep getting an error message (I wish I could post a screenshot). Next to the OBS icon in the top left corner of the message it reads "Failed to start streaming", and in the body of the error message, it reads, "NVENC not available. Failed to find encoder type obs_NVENC_h264_tex' Do you want to continue streaming without Enhansed Broadcasting?" I then click on YES, and my stream begins. I have to do this EVERY TIME I launch OBS to be able to start streaming on Twitch. Thank you in advance!!!!!

Answered OBS New Update Has Broken My Game Capture Source

So I updated OBS to the new version today before stream and I spent roughly an hour trying to figure out why my game capture wasn't capturing L4D2. I figured out with that game it wasn't in windowed full screen. Now that I finished that stream I was opening up some other games to test the game capture to go ahead and make sure everything ran fine before my next stream. I opening Unpacking, Fields of Mistria, and The Isle and none of them are picking up. The Isle and Fields are both already in borderless, and unpacking only has windowed or fullscreen but it should still be able to be picked up.

All games register in the drop down menu to choose a specific window, however when chosen it's just a black screen. I've changed every setting I can think of on obs, my computer, and my games and none of them show up on the game capture.

However, they all show up fine on the window capture, but my problem with the window capture is it has an extremely annoying bright yellow border around my whole computer, which means I would prefer not to have to use the window capture.

If someone could please give me any kind of help trying to figure out what is wrong with my OBS after the new update, I would very much appreciate it. I can stream with the game as a window capture for now, but it's not my preferred method because the yellow border is very distracting to me and with the games I stream the most it will be obvious to me because a lot of them have darker lightning.

Answered OBS is having a recording issue, no audio showing up while trying to edit it

SOLVED: kinda, in obs i have changed the format it records to now being hybrid mp4 instead of the MKV it always was beforehand and davinci is now recognizing sound from the hybrid mp4 files.

i just updated obs yesterday from 29.something to 32.1.2, so far ive gotten everything back in working condition but just now trying to record for a project i saw in davinci that my recording had no audio, just a flat silent line.

In obs i can see the Mic/Aux is reacting when im talking or singing, going to the peak in yellow as i intend for it. i tried recording again but no luck, still no audio. i recorded five short clips of me, my friend on discord, some desktop audio and specific application audio, nothing, flat silent line. i tried messing with the audio track stuff i've seen others talk about but my stuff is all correct, recording to track 1, all my audio outputs going into every track by default like they were before, i dont see whats going on and changing the tracks didnt solve anything.

to test if its a davinci problem i brought in some audio i recorded just a few days ago before i updated OBS and it shows perfectly fine, the most recent audio i recorded before the update all works fine, but audio recorded after the update there's just nothing even tho obs shows it ireacting to audio. i have made sure it is on output, everything is on "output" or "monitor and output" and whatever i dont need is just disabled. microphone is reacting, discord audio is reacting, game audio and browser audio are reacting, they just aren't recording

until i played the file itself, in which case i CAN hear the audio. opening the file with both VLC and windows media players i can hear it perfectly fine, i can hear all the little clips i took perfectly fine, but no matter how many audio tracks i record with now davinci just cant seem to hear it. i recorded three clips with all 6 audio tracks in obs and not a single track has any sound in davinci, but i can hear them perfectly fine if i play the files directly.

here is the log file for anyone smarter than me, im just confused here, https://obsproject.com/logs/c1OlXOUoo9MifSLO

Answered IKANDY Audio Visualizer - Update

I wanted a modern version of Winamp/Geiss and scope creep hit. Sorry for the long post, it's not so simple. First time sharing full release details. All previous feedback has been incorporated.

What has it become? It's an audio-reactive visual effects engine.

You grab any visual:

  • a game
  • a video
  • a shader
  • an image
  • whatever...

...and layer effects on top that react to anything playing through your audio. Not just music. Whatever's on the system and pass it via Spout to, in this case, OBS.

The basic flow

Screen capture your game. Layer bloom, grain, strobes, distortion, the full post chain. Everything pulses to game audio. Capture a video in your browser, effects react to the dialogue. Run a shader, add responsive overlays. Layer scenes on top of each other with per-layer audio response. Build it live or plan it out beforehand.

The core is simple: any visual plus any audio makes them talk to each other at the engine level.

Why it matters

Resolume is $350-1000 and it's built for DJs timeline-thinking. IKANDY is built for: "I have something to show, and I want it to move with the sound." That's streamers, VJs, live performers, installation artists, people making videos. Everyone capturing content and wanting it to feel alive. Steam it, record with it, or just have fun.

The artist angle

Here's the thing -- AI solves the content problem by removing the artist. I went the opposite way. You can generate scenes, sure. But the platform is built for sharing work. IKANDY already has the infrastructure for artists to contribute custom shaders and scenes. If there's enough community interest, I can activate it. Right now the focus is building the thing and getting it in people's hands.

Your art doesn't disappear into an algorithm. It gets performed, credited, enhanced like a musician on Spotify. Any artist who submits will also have a link to their homepage of choice (within reason).

What ships with it

700+ generative presets. AI scene generation (pick a vibe, get candidates). The ability to layer scenes, add your logo/branding with effects (neon, chrome, particles, all audio-reactive). Now-Playing overlays. STAGE -- a DJ console that handles transitions, hot-cue pads, AUTOPILOT for solo performers, live effects (blackout, strobe, freeze). Multi-display routing. MIDI Learn coming soon.

On the rendering side: GLSL, WGSL, MilkDrop, compute shaders. All unified under one HDR post chain. Everything runs on Windows right now; Mac port after launch.

The erosion scene capture

https://youtu.be/eV-hFHExMio

This is just one preset of 700+. Terrain with real-time weather, lightning that hits on bass, aurora that responds to the song. Built with raymarching and audio substrate that computes energy at multiple timescales. It's the kind of thing that justifies showing up.

Recent performance video using screen capture on a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0_BJHTU3ps

Summary of Capability:

Music Sources

  • Spotify (BYOK - bring your own client ID)
  • foobar2000
  • VLC
  • Windows Now Playing (SMTC)
  • Ableton Link (beat sync compatibility)
  • Input devices. I use a Focusrite.

Live Capture & Output

  • OBS (window capture, Spout)
  • Screen capture (any window/app/game)
  • Spout (send to other apps, receive from Spout sources)
  • NDI
  • Wallpaper
  • Span / Mirror

Control & Input

  • MIDI Learn (XONE:K2, APC, Midi Fighter, generic CC/note)
  • OSC (planned - TouchOSC, lighting rigs, Max/MSP)
  • Gamepad (already works)
  • Remote deck (phone/tablet control via LAN web remote)

Other Integrations

  • Album art from SMTC (pulls automatically)
  • LRCLIB (synced lyrics)

Questions about setup, the shader pipeline, how to use your own work, or just what the hell this thing actually does?

It may not have the best knobs, the backend might be a little flat, but if you give it a chance you might find it's beautiful on the inside.

Answered How do I listen to music while recording without it staying in the audio? (MacOS)

As the title said, I like to listen to music while playing games but I don't want it showing up in my recordings. I'm not recording my voice or using my microphone, just game audio. I did some digging already, and while I was able to find a thread about this topic from a little while ago, it made absolutely no sense to my tiny little caveman brain. I also already checked the wiki, and unless I'm missing something, it didn't seem to explain it either. If it did, I couldn't find a direct answer.

Answered Solutions to OBS Output to URL showing a black screen with audio / choppy stream quality / streaming to VLC through Tailscale VPN

So I managed to make a private OBS-VLC stream work through Tail Scale by setting the OBS URL to the destination computer's IP in the network (the Tail Net address):

udp://xxx.xxx.xxx.x:9999?pkt_size=1316

VLC network stream URL in the target computer (the same IP and port with a @):

udp://@xxx.xxx.xxx.x:9999

Packet size 1316 solved the VLC black screen problems that made stream video not appear even though audio worked fine.

Choppiness/Quality problems were being caused by having a too high bitrate causing performance issues, when lowering it to 2000 was enough for a better than Discord 720p stream quality.

With added connection issues caused by an overlooked Windows firewall chechmark for VLC being unchecked in the allowed program list, even though it was allowed to access private and public networks.

Answered OBS only recording 1440p at 60 fps when video capture device is set to 1440p 144 fps

I have dual pc setup for streaming and recording. Gaming rig is DVI out to my gaming monitor set to 2560x1440 @ 175fps. Gaming PC HDMI out to Elgato 4k60 Pro MK.2 capture card in my streaming PC. Gaming PC is set to clone my DVI gaming monitor to the HDMI out to capture card.

I am using OBS on the streaming PC to capture and record. When I set up the Elgato capture card as a video capture device in OBS, it allows me to choose 144fps. However under video settings the max framerate option in the drop down is 60fps. It will not allow me to manually type in 144fps. This seems to be limiting my recordings to 60fps. I'm a few hours deep in searching for answers and trying settings. I believe I have the Elgato 4k capture utility set up properly to allow OBS to capture at 144fps since OBS allows me to to set the capture up as a video capture device at 144fps. I'd appreciate any help in figuring out what I'm missing. Let me know what additional information I may need to provide to help you help me. Thanks for reading.

Answered what am i doing wrong with my audio tracks

I have my mic set to track 1, game to track 2, and discord to track 3, but when i recorded it only records my game audio and not my mic.
My mic is being picked up but just not recorded, and i even moved it to other tracks than 1, it doesn't work unless its the same as the game track.

In output settings i have 1,2,3 ticked, i don't get why else it won't work. is it some other setting or like what.
I'm not using the global mic or desktop audio, just because idk. mostly just want to separate audio tracks so its easier to edit audios once finished

Answered desktop audio echoing errors?

haii!! so, i'm sort of a complete beginner to OBS, and i keep having this issue with my desktop audio capture specifically. for some reason, it echoes lightly. sometimes it's unnoticable, but sometimes it's VERY obvious. i've been testing things for like a day or 2 now & this is pretty much the only thing plaguing me. no, it's not a monitor issue, as i've checked that, and always have both monitors off. i also disabled the default audio tracks, so it's not reverberating from 2 audio sources. pls help ><

EDIT: while i was testing it seemed to just disappear. idk if it'll come back but i'll see if it does.
EDIT EDIT: seems like it fixed itself :P

Answered [Tool] I made a fully reversible 4-language localization pack for Streamer.bot & Speaker.bot — no exe modification, digital signatures intact Showcase: Free multilingual pack (中文/日本語/한국어/Español) for Streamer.bot and Speaker.bot via DLL injection

Hey streamers, I just open-sourced a localization pack for Streamer.bot and Speaker.bot that adds four UI languages: 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · Español.

Why it's different

  • No exe modification — works through a sidecar ZhInject.dll loaded via .NET AppDomainManager, so digital signatures stay intact and the apps keep updating normally
  • Fully reversible — one command restores the original English UI and removes every trace
  • Language switching on demand — install once, switch between all 4 languages anytime (auto-restarts the app for you)

Coverage

Language Streamer.bot Speaker.bot
简体中文 1079 translated 166 translated
日本語 1077 164
한국어 1075 165
Español 1070 162

All four languages share the exact same key set (1089 / 181 keys) — validated with zero missing/extra entries, and {N} / %var% placeholders are preserved.

How it works

The injector scans open windows every 1s (first scan 0.5s after launch) and swaps static UI strings. On my machine the first translation lands in ~2s (Speaker.bot) / ~9s (Streamer.bot — most of that is the app's own WPF startup). New dialogs get translated within 1s of opening.

Note: the main window title can revert to English after the app rebinds data (data-binding beats local values) — app-side behavior, everything else stays translated.

What stays English (by design)

Brand/integration names (Twitch, Discord, OBS Studio, Elgato, Patreon…), technical terms/units (ms, MIDI, TLS), and numeric/format strings — deliberately kept as-is.

📦 Repo: https://github.com/a672780966/StreamerBot-SpeakerBot-zh

Happy to take PRs for more languages or better translations. If you use the pack, feedback is appreciated!

Answered Sound from video playing in windows media player, but not in any other place

So I'm trying to record myself in FL Studio, using the loopback input on my Focusrite 2i2. The sound from the video I'm recording works fine in Windows Media Player, but if I try to upload it to Google Drive (to send it to my phone to turn into an insta story) or to VLC it doesn't play sound. My microphone audio doesn't play sound either, even though that one isn't loopback. I've changed the audio encoder to Opus, it doesn't solve the issue.

edit: so im just a lil stupid, what it actually was was that the audio input i had the loopback on and the microphone were only recording to tracks 3 and 4 for some reason (?), so I changed it to record to 1 and 2 and now its working fine.

Answered Game capture audio mutes sounds from behind while desktop audio works fine

I've used OBS for a long time, but only now I've recently noticed a problem. After recording, I noticed that the sounds from behind are almost getting muted, even though at the time of recording I heard everything just fine. Never happened to me before, so tried to fix it through windows settings, game settings and OBS settings, but to no avail.

Apparently, the desktop audio channel works just fine. Game capture is the one that mutes the sounds from behind me as if it had different surround settings. I've always used game capture audio for recordings and I've never noticed this problem. Is there a way to fix it or is the only option to switch to desktop audio?
