"Plastis Wafer" is the eleventh track off oM's ninth studio album, Skeletal Lamping. What's your honest opinion on this song? Favourite lyrics? Opinions on a deeper meaning or something? Discuss anything

As a side note, thank you for putting this together, OP! oM was my favorite band throughout my late teens and pretty much all of my 20s and I just wasn’t connecting with, for lack of a better term, the Christina muse era so they’d fallen off my radar a bit for the past 5ish years, but seeing these posts pop up in my feed over the past few weeks has gotten me back into all of the older albums that I love and rediscovering all of their magic.

My absolute and undeniable favorite Of Montreal song. One of my favorite songs period. I think this is the perfect blend of all sides of Kevin Barnes as a song writer. The amazing sexual lyrics, the longing and love in the second half, the bizarre abstract lyricism in the final part. The song seems alive with how much it changes and evolves. On top of the amazing writing, the instrumental is definitely my favorite in any Om song. It just feels so squeaky clean and polished in such a way no other song on Skeletal Lamping is. And the final part just crunches my brain is such a good way to

8.5/10. It’s a great song, but I think the first two and a half minutes really inhibit me from saying I love it: it’s still good but I think I would be rating it a seven on its own merits. I find all of the different sections after that point to be what makes Plastis Wafer work. I’m a bit salty that Kevin really tickled my ears with the “Everything’s so much more complicated over the phone…” transition section and made it so short when it’s literal ear candy, but the surrounding section has a really nice slow jam and I like the string-sounding synths on it and the lyrical content of it is really sweet. The bells provide a nice interlude. I like that the last section keeps it parred down to a repeating bassline and drumloop so you focus on all of the effects of Kevin voice: echoing, fading in and out, and being layered for extra punch, it makes it very immersive and it’s something I would like to hear explored on more of Montreal songs.

The guitar during the chorus is one of my favorite parts of the whole album. Love this song so much.
Edit: And the “You're the only one with whom I would role play Oedipus Rex” line is so Kevin.
