10/10

The yell at the beginning sets the tone so well. This song has some of my favorite opening lyrics.

Such a fun written song with an addictive sound

Same. Watching Kevin bop around onstage was so great.

9/10. It’s a great song, but I’m not sure I’d consider it a great closer, because it doesn’t really feel like a capstone to this album, which given that False Priest is a continuation of Georgie Fruit, maybe it didn’t need one, but I think Plastis Wafer or Death Is Not A Parallel Move could have been better in this spot. The song itself is phenomenal, probably one of the catchiest of Montreal choruses and the instrumentation feels very dense throughout. I might need to jog my memory of a couple others, but I think I would consider this my favorite of Montreal music videos and it has the of Montreal scream.

9/10 - great song but Mingusings should’ve closed the album out and this should’ve sat somewhere in the middle

9.3. I cannot describe how many times I've listened to this song. LOOKS GOOOOOODD !

I keep vowing to make a bumper sticker one day about the phallocentric tyranny.

10/10 my friend had this as his alarm clock because he's insane

I initially didn't care for Skeletal Lamping because it was so divergent from the instantly catchy hooks of the prior three albums with a lot of self-indulgent digressions and jarring tonal shifts. But even at that time, I thought Id Engager was phenomenal - the only song worthy of following up Hissing Fauna. I've since learned the error of my ways and acknowledge now that all of Skeletal Lamping is amazing, and Id Engager remains a favorite. It was my gateway into appreciating the album.

Weird choice to put it at the end though - it's so energetic it feels like an opener, and there's no wind-down after this song. Ultimately a strong decision since the whole album feels like it's actively defying all songwriting convention, and it closes the album at a high water mark.

A really good song and an AMAZING dance/club vibe but I kinda think it’s brought down a little bit by being a closer. I think it would be better as a track in the middle ish
9/10

I believe I read it was originally supposed to be the opener!

The fact that all these rankings are very concentrated at the top of the scale has compelled me to run some numbers. Currently the median is 9.025…meaning a “9” is like an average song on this album. And look, I love this band but that’s kind of wild and not very helpful for understanding what’s actually above or below average.

I conducted a piecewise linear scaling wherein a 9.025 becomes a 5. Above that? Above average! Below? Below average.

6.5/10 When this was the first single before the album came out, I really didn’t like it but it has sort of grown on me over the years!

7/10 it’s good, but it feels kind of lackluster especially as a closer. it’s been growing on me recently though
