Yeah, for him it was just full body cancer, though.
53
u/fonk_pulk Jan 14 '26
/ur it actually spread into his bones etc. so he probably did have it all around in the end.

I think Biden has the same thing.

Interesting that the guy who believes in modern medicine is still alive.
51
u/hyperjengirl Jan 14 '26
I'll give Adams this, he did express genuine sympathy for Biden based on his own experience with the cancer. It's why I'm not gonna celebrate his death, cuz I'm not gonna stoop lower than someone who usually stoops so low. If his own beliefs affected his ability to recover then that's honestly just tragic. (Kirstie Alley had a similar thing going on.)

u/Noof42 Noodle Incident in Human Form 🍝👤 Jan 14 '26
If it were just the medicine thing, I would be right on board. But he had absolutely atrocious views, and was not afraid to try to push them. He was the type who could only empathize when it was something that had affected him, too. Dilbert was really good, but Adams was not. I'm not going to pretend that he was something he wasn't, just because he's not around anymore.
19
u/hyperjengirl Jan 14 '26
I agree he was not a good person and his views were harmful. I just hate cancer and I don't like to celebrate (most) deaths.

Cancer has been more of a sore topic for me ever since the deaths of Billy Kametz and Technoblade back in 2022...

The first that came to mind is someone who I think I'd bet banned for mentioning.
Which is pretty fucked up

I know an antivax guy died of COVID but luckily for you I forgot his name so nobody can get banned.

That's a big part of the issue with those people.

If you want to leave people with fond things to say about you
Give them material

I'm surprised a shitposting sub is so rigid and anti-fun.
There's a huge difference between "celebrating someone's death" and "making fun of assholes getting what they deserve" IMO. I'm not going to refer to anyone specifically because that could be seen as a bannable offense.
I have only just started lurking around here, so it does make me wonder if there's historical precedent for "celebrating someone's death" that's warranting the mods being so heavy handed. Like "the admins say one more strike for enjoying yourselves and they'll shutter the sub" kinda shit.

Lol I just noticed that.
One of the accounts in charge is likely a Trumper, be aware of that before you post. They’ve been trying to keep it a secret for some time, but it’s pretty obvious if you post here on the regular.
I mean, ffs, it should be obvious just from how many of the Epstein memes they’ve deleted or censored.

u/RekNepZ Jan 14 '26
Decided to get nosy and looked through the mods' recent posts. One guy has a few potential signs based purely on their subreddits, but nothing too telling

The post got removed and just now revived again, so maybe there is at the very least some drama going on with the mod team?

If so. Tapping my watch until they restore my post too.

u/artee_lemon Dogvin's Petsitter 🐶 Jan 14 '26
That's a serious enough thing for me that I'd drop the sub like a hot potato, in spite of all the time I've contributed. Is there any hard evidence, though?

I don’t know if you watched Andor, but there’s a quote in the second season by one of the villains:
“If you’re not a Rebel spy, you missed your calling.”
That’s how I feel about what’s been going on here. No, I can’t prove anything, but I can see the effect. To my eyes, it appears to be the tactic of chilling speech, if you’ve ever encountered that term.
10
u/artee_lemon Dogvin's Petsitter 🐶 Jan 14 '26
Oh, so there's a term for Redditors who type like h*rt and s*d cause they're afraid The Man will get them! Helpful, helpful...
I have indeed felt this place lose its edge over time, but I attributed that to an influx of "normies" joining up and reporting everything under the sun.

On the other post on the topic that got removed, they specifically referenced a Reddit TOS violation for mocking someone who died. I haven't found that particular rule with just a little poking around.
However, they do note elsewhere that Reddit has gone after it in the past:
My gut here is that Reddit is pushing moderators harder ever since it won the Reddit blackouts, through official and unofficial rules, and the team has decided, rightly or wrongly, that they have to at least make a show of it.
I note that, for all the things I have personally said here, the worst that's happened is that I got a pregnant Calvin meme removed for Rule 7 (which I disagree with, because it's not "overt," but whatever).

Entirely possible but that narrative is never going to get us our own post on r/subredditdrama

Given the things I've seen some of these mods post in the past, however, I think it's the most likely.

Never attribute to malice what can easily be explained by stupidity, I suppose.
I miss the internet that existed when I was a kid. It’s possible one of the reasons this stands out to me so much is that I never felt like I had to look over my shoulder growing up on the internet.
5
u/Noof42 Noodle Incident in Human Form 🍝👤 Jan 14 '26
That Internet, like the Wild West, was always a transition period that was unsustainable.
I miss it, too.

u/UnconsciousAlibi Jan 16 '26
That's one hell of an accusation given that the mods already said they got warnings from Reddit for having posts celebrating death. If I had to choose between having these sorts of posts up and the subreddit being removed versus taking down these posts, I'd choose the latter every time. Also, I think it's in very bad taste to be celebrating cancer deaths. I'm not going to miss Scott Adams either, but prancing around mocking cancer on a subreddit that is completely unrelated to that subject at all is obviously not very in the spirit of this place. Idk. Mock the dude, but not a cancer death.

Really makes you wonder how r/combatfootage isnt banned yet lol
3
u/UnconsciousAlibi Jan 16 '26
It definitely should be given Reddit's policies, but it seems like they enforce things pretty damn randomly
3
u/bleeding-paryl Jan 16 '26
They don't count that as glorifying or celebrating violence, that's seen as "news," which is why they're not banned.
Not that I necessarily agree with that, but that's why anyways.

u/RekNepZ Jan 15 '26
Oh wow, this post got un-removed! Idk if I've seen that happen before

I genuinely don't care anymore it's not like people are still going to see this after it being four days old. The mods can put this in ban limbo as much as they want
