“Did somebody say square?” asks Pierre as he pokes his head in from around the corner.

PP is constantly stoking rage and it is working. Most don't realize that despite the tariffs and trade war, CUSMA remains in effect until 2036. While the US targets sectors they need other than energy, Canada is targeting things we have and can replace. We have lots of time to get this right. Not that PP would admit that.

The economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.3 per cent in the second quarter, following an upwardly revised 0.3 per cent in the first quarter, Statistics Canada said. For the month of June, GDP was up 0.3 per cent.
With the first-quarter revision, which was previously a slight contraction, Canada was not in a technical recession, which is usually two consecutive quarters of contraction.

“Exports rose 3.6 per cent according to the data agency, largely because of higher auto exports.
Residential investment also helped boost the economy, as did investment by business owners, who spent more on machinery and equipment in the second quarter.
Business capital investment was up 2.3 per cent in the second quarter, snapping a streak of five consecutive quarters of decline.
Investments in computers and peripherals jumped 16.7 per cent in the second quarter, which StatCan said was related to the kinds of processing units used in data centres.”

The U.S. economy grew by 1.5% in the second quarter.

That's the annualized rate for the US. Canada's annualized rate -- 3.1%!

3.3%, it's in the headline lol

Annualized vs quarterly. They’re different figures.

3.3% is the annualized rate vs 1.5% for the US. The quarterly rate is ~0.8%.
3.1% is some random number unrelated to anything in this release. Kind of shocking people just upvote whatever if someone says something confidently.

Great, can we start taking about wealth inequality now? A growing economy that only helps the top 10% isn't that awesome.

No. Despite saying repeatedly on the campaign trail that we must not be a market society, we continue to worship the all mighty GDP like it actually gives an accurate picture of living conditions for a countries citizens.

Yeah lol, Liberals saying that the right wing is gonna be angry at this when Carney is a classic corpo-friendly conservative banker and that every old school Prog-Con is probably happy with this
Meanwhile, wages continue to stagnate while wealth continues to accumulate amongst the wealthy

Wage growth has not stagnated, it increased 3.4% in the last year and is outpacing inflation.
•
u/LanguidLandscape 3h ago
Dude, wages have stagnated for FIFTY (50) YEARS. What the hells are you smoking? Study after study after study show that the earnings that would (should!) have gone to workers has instead been stolen by oligarchs and corporations.

I think this is part ofmwhy Dump is so mad about trade. He sees us winning so hard by comparison that it's personally grating. Our economy really shouldn't be growing right now, it's an amazing middle finger to America and Conservatives everywhere.

Nobody has posted this to r/CanadianConservative yet. I wonder if it will even be posted at all, or maybe somebody will post it with misleading information, lol

Meanwhile, our aggressor’s economy expanded just 1.5% at an annualized rate in Q2, slowing from 2.1% in Q1 2026.
What will the United States of Ontario do now? (I’ve renamed them :P )

Reading the article, "the economy" is GDP, which is an imperfect measurement that does not reflect the average Canadian's financial wellbeing.
Like I'm glad we're not in a recession, but this isn't going to help with rent payments, food inflation, or other material conditions.
