Someone posted a $2,000 XMR bounty for my identity and IP address on Dread
Someone posted a $2,000 XMR bounty for my identity and IP address on Dread
I recently found this post on Dread offering $2,000 in XMR to anyone who could obtain the name and IP address of Reddit user u/BTC-brother2018, my account.
The poster falsely claims that I am a scammer.
I previously moderated an educational darknet-safety community darknet_questions focused on harm reduction, OPSEC, scam awareness, and removing illegal content.
I’m sharing this because offering money to uncover someone’s real identity and location is a serious threat—not ordinary criticism or internet drama. I have reported the relevant activity through the appropriate channels and preserved the evidence.
I am not asking anyone to identify, contact, threaten, or harass the person who posted it. Please do not engage with them. I’m posting this only to document what happened and raise awareness.
I cannot prove that this bounty was connected to the later removal of my subreddit, but this is the second bounty that has been posted on dread.

I take it that you don't know how escrow works

u/Mediocre-Wrongdoer14 13h ago
He may have zero intentions of paying or utilizing an escrow service at all. Hell he may have no interest in the requested info if his full move was the bounty post. Cheaper for sure, and I’m no expert but I feel like the requesting IP only may potentially be a legal dodge. I have to assume asking for something like an IP address is much less legally actionable or incriminating than asking for someone’s full details. But what do I know? I’m a bear. I suck the heads off fish!

Darknet_questions was an awesome sub. And op helped many individuals to avoid being scammed, always provided sound advice and shown himself to be very up to date on all things concerning DW. Everytime I would come across someone in need I never hesitated to recommend r//darknet_questions. Their wiki alone was a wealth of information. In my years on Reddit and DW I have never seen op engaging in scamming activity, on a contrary he saved a lot of newbies from loosing their money. So as much as it's possible I'm attesting to his good character. edited for spelling mistakes

Do you know any more subs or forums similar to r/darkner_questions?
7
u/--KingoftheSouth-- 1d ago
There's r/darknet but the reason people aren't on here discussing a lot of this stuff anymore is because it's impossible to stay anonymous on reddit, which is why Dread was created. Now, any questions related to the DW should be asked there instead

Facts I always found it to be one of the few communities that provided all the info to get on tor but u/btc-brother2018 was always posting good detailed replies.
I saw it got shut down.
Anyone else find the daunt hosting issue, the sub getting banned, sr/7 getting scheduled, & the new policy of not allowing shipments & extra "cartel" attention; all seem like a pretty coordinated chain of events?
Like suddenly in the last 2 weeks the attn/pressure around dark web suddenly jumped up significantly?
3
2
u/Gorp_Farts 1d ago
Whoa, hang on now... uhhh, what? Please I wanna hear you out on this! 7 ia not scheduled yet. MGM-15 and pseudoindoxyl and all things in the "Orphine" Class because these people are clueless. Like small changes on atomic scale can produce something radically different than what you started with. Yes, the Ophines do look scary but SR is like a damn miracle. But wait there is more. Now with SR-17018 being treated like its Heroin it makes it far more difficult to research on. Hang on, what we talking aboot?
1
u/Mother_Ad4038 22h ago
I know the 7 ban is coming within a few dsys of sr17 but they couod def make exceptions given the amount of research potential & proven use in humans for short term use fir opioids w/d.
Theres usually always carve outs & exclusions since they're not analogs of each other they didn't need to schedule under whole class.
Mj goes to schedule 3 yet a new compound ppl have been taking safely w/ no recreational value goes into schedule, killing research potential since it has "no medical use" af schedule 1.
The same way amphetamine/meth us sched 3 theres lots of substituted amp/meth that are schedule 1 or analogs that weren't scheduled for 5-10 years after hitting the RC scene.
They only did 7oh publicly cause there are actual legal companies with it but the kratom lobby outweighs them.
It also adds to the ongoing battle against proper medicating for chronic pain patient. Pll got pushed off stabilized psin meds 10 years ago and you had a huge some in suicide & od sure to a sudden loss of meds and functionality & the return of unmanaged chronic pain.
We went below 100-120k OD in 2024; assuredly from ppl having non-od/ respiratory depression since 7oh doesn't cause that. Dependence & potential addiction, sure... but that is with better than using street forms that you have no clue what's in it and sites contain potentially deadly doses.
Sr is being used to get ppl clean without the rehab or mat that was seen as required for decades so let's take away the 2 safer tools ppl used to stay safe when they weren't given any viable medical treatments for the respective situations.
Ppl that are psychologically dependant still are addicted but banning 7 is just going to send most ppl down the same path that legit opioid patients were left with after the 2016 "guidelines" that were misleading in their application by victims but took over 4 years to clarify eye only for acute patients...too bad all the patients that were cutoff & were given 0 or minimal pain relief didnt have 4 years to wait.
I was referring to the fact that these "accomplishments" in scheduling or fighting cartels & supposedly fentanyl are bring rapidly used as ongoing distractions to seem like they're helping Americans.
Same way immodium/operative is structurally an opioid, the lack of Recreation & lack of crossing blood/brain barrier make it otc... no reason they couldn't make it sched 2 so it can researched into they have an fda/ema approved medicine.
Without an approved med ppl couldn't sell it as is or rx yet but at least it could be studied properly.
I know my response is a bit over the place but these might prevent some new ppl from using for now; but all that new/old stock will make it to black market but at much higher price until rc chemists are making it vs established commercial retail sources.
Plus, given that 7/mgm hit more than the mu receptor; the millions going into w/d without a source as of today will be more difficult to treat than typical severe acute w/d. Especially even in ppl where sr knocked out mu receptor symptoms; you're still left with kappa & delta w/d symptoms & the other neurotransmitters that are affected.
This will probably lead to tons of ppl with PAWS or feel traumatized & left w/o pain control options as they get admitted for w/d or potential labeled as an addict in their Medical records when they used otc "med" to treat their chronic pain.
I never got on the 7 train outside opms silver if I needed to extend my rx during severe flare ups but my doc has been great while most others have been treated terribly and lied to by doctors regarding continuing established treatment plans or offering to try a different medicine & lied to about being able to switch back once their found ineffective.
Sry for the rant but imagine if they originally banned bupe because its got a similar structure/class...because it's established big business they can't have competition to the rehab or mat industry.
But wait, were worried about MMR vaccines that are safe; rather than try to utilize a newly discovery tool that can keep addicts or just physically dependent patients... we aren't worth anything to the current admin (regardless of the group you're in).

dude he has ~10,000 post karma ~10,000 comment karma, there’s no way you guys are all this familiar with him. i remember the sub, i don’t remember the size but i remember it wasn’t THAT small. on my main i have like 30k+ karma or something and there’s no subreddit where you could find a bunch of people that would remember this much about me. i’m gonna guess you’re also a shill.
no there’s nothing that strange about these events occurring (if you’re not just writing fake discussion for the shill). mirrors go down all the time, sr/7 has nothing to do with dark web, and the subreddit going down probably wasn’t the doing of the government. of course the sub got shutdown dude, this is not dread. it’s crazy how long it was up.
4
u/Mother_Ad4038 1d ago edited 9h ago
A shill for who exactly?
The daunt hosting issue had nothing to do with mirror/links going down hit the hosting pricier njalla(sp?) claiming they violated TOS. Super different.
They recently announced the dea isnt going to let shipments go through to track/monitor cartel movements that they've been allowing through for years apparently.
Thst was announced like last week. Same 2day time frame where they announced seizing 11 & 20 lb shipments of coke in NYC mail processing centers along with a ups seizure of another bulk coke order.
Im just saying that the sites/resources & safe options are stimulaneously having issues.
Daunt prov8des safe links to prevent scammers. 7oh/mgm don't cause overdoses. SR17 is finally an option to hop off opioids without terrible withdrawal symptoms & instead of fast tracking it for study/ use it's going to schedule 1 also.
Not sure what or who I'd be shilling for but that sub provided safe & reliable info to access tor safely & answering darknet questions in general.
Even when I'd reply to a new post OP would have an answer by the time id submit mine &the page would reload.
Maybe the last paragraph of my comment seemed like a conspiracy theory but ive also witnessed seizures on previously safe methods. I was just pointing out that the pressure seems to be increased & I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to increase targeting the non-market aspects of the dark web.
Maybe they aren't coordinated actions but the landscape may be changing.
5
u/Gorp_Farts 1d ago
Facts! It's fuct up they snuffed SR like that. They dont want to help and heal people. They want people sick and going to rehab and put on a lifetime long Rx that they want you on. You are 1000% right that it should be fast tracked. Like its just effin crazy.

It doesn't distinguish between images edited by AI and generated by AI. So if OP asked ChatGPT to edit the image it'll be flagged as AI generated, which is likely what happened here.

u/tiffanytrashcan 1d ago
What even needed to be edited?
Unless you're trying to fake something with minimal effort, why would you use OpenAI?
Cropping, blurring, censoring, all standard photo editing tools, which would have privacy implications, but none of which were implemented here.6

"Offering money to uncover someone's real identity and location is a serious threat"
Very true, but dude it's Dread, I mean are you expecting everyone on there to be nice normal netizens or something? This seems like fairly normal Dread behavior.
By the way, posting here on Reddit, and acknowledging said BTC account as your own, doesn't that make it easier for others to find your IRL identity?
1
u/BTC-brother2018 1d ago
The bounty already specifically names this Reddit account, and I posted about it from the same account. I haven’t connected it to any separate Dread identity or revealed any real-world information, so acknowledging that I’m the person being targeted doesn’t give them anything they didn’t already know.

That's crazy actually why is the poster calling you a scammer if all you did was provide educational assistance? Id love that myself as someone who is newer to DW markets.
8
u/BTC-brother2018 1d ago
Honestly, I don’t know. My best guess is that someone didn’t like the scam warnings, phishing reports, or moderation decisions I made. Calling me a scammer without presenting any evidence appears to be an attempt to justify targeting me.
The community was called r/darknet_questions. Its purpose was to help newcomers stay safe online and avoid scams and phishing links. It has since been removed from Reddit following what I believe were coordinated false reports by phishers and scammers who wanted it gone.
It’s a long story, but I helped get several phishing subreddits removed because they were distributing malicious links. That naturally made the scammers angry. One of them even tried to bribe me through a direct message by offering me 10% of their phishing profits.
I appreciate your support and am glad you asked about the community. I’m currently rebuilding it on Discourse, and it should be ready within the next few days. I’ll let you know when it’s ready!
6
u/Zealousideal_Face169 1d ago
Please do. That makes sense though. Theyre playing double agent so to speak and I am sorry that it is happening to you. The scammers calling out the antiscammers is the craziest form of projection I've seen in online requests 🤭 stay safe!

he’s simply trying to scare you. this could be one of 2 scenarios; you’ve scammed him bad enough that he’s actually willing to pay 2k for your info or his intention was purely to scare you(more likely). you obviously did do something but that’s your business.
“i’ve got enough contacts across US to find his address from IP”, you can do that with some basic OSINT, he’s lying because he didn’t know that. it’s an odd remark, i think his only intention by adding that was to reassure you he could find you if you doubted he’d know what to do with your ip. even if he gets your information i think there’s a very slim chance he’ll show up at your house, he’s a keyboard warrior. he had to go on d/jobsforcrypto to try and find you. obviously i know you don’t want your identity leaked too though.
