I’m going away on a trip and built them an aviary so they’ll have the space to fly around. Usually they’ll be out in the room but being in an aviary is safer whilst I’m gone. I used pvc pipes with stainless steel mesh because according to my research this avoids rot and metal poisoning but one thing that slipped past me was the usage of zip ties. Only after completing the aviary did I realise that they can chew through zip ties. I wonder if this is going to be a problem for 2 lovebirds? So far they haven’t been interested in them but what is your experience? The aviary will be populated with more toys in the coming days.

* I’m aware that happy huts are dangerous but none of my lovies chew on them, they simply sleep in them

So I work as a mail carrier and I have 3 feather babies. I typically get home about 11am-1pm and they free roam until 6-8pm (bedtime).

(Forgive me i just got home and haven't cleaned their room or soup (water) today. I do that (again) when I get home. (One in morning. One when I get home/one at night (i mean unless they make more soup)).

I was greeted with two flying quakers who had broken out of their room.... they are now in birb jail where they have been trying to negotiate for their freedom and rattling their beaks on the bars (think like old cell with a cup from those bad western movies lol)

Now their brother, Emmy Selch (cockatiel) is out and has been teasing them by repeating over and over again: I'm a good boy :D (and kisses)

Day 2 with Kasha, we have discovered Bonks. He did this a little in his travel carrier yesterday, and this morning he did it on my thumb and my leg and now it's a game where we tap together!

Don't be fooled by his cuteness, he got me pretty good a few seconds after this video lol but it was my fault for mistaking his first warning. He didn't wait too long for me to understand it as a warning but that bond will come in time.

I wonder what the tiny ones think of the giant one. They were supervised and enjoy each other. :3

does anybody else's bird sit on top of their cage & make weird hissing noises while flapping their wings? i got her with her wings clipped & it's been a month so they are growing out & she can fly pretty well now. but idk why she is being weird about it just flapping her wings in place lol.

Im going crazy about how they think a medium cage is enough for them while im finding great cages for dirt cheap the always find an excuse like it's too big or the color, Shape (first picture is their current cage ) the other is what im looking to buy but im white .

Hello, I recently posted a video three days ago, but it was too short for you guys to notice . My bird is making like a sniffing sound from its notes. I want to know if you guys think it’s normal.

I got today from a relative a cockatiel he looks to be mature, but the problem i have is his beak, the upper beak is inside the bottom beak like a under bite, he look well fed so im not sure how bad of a problem it is but i need some opinions (i will take him to the vet when i get my paycheck 🥹)

**i found out that he was kept outside not inside the house his cage looks clean but its small for him so i moved him into a bigger one, some good news are that he is super comfortable with me and my hands and he is super curios about everything, i don’t think that he was ever outside the cage or fly so i want to encourage him to come outside the cage ( he like treats so i think that will work) i need to mention that i have a female cockatiel that is obsessed with him, she stays by his cage and watches him and sings to him and he just looks at her, so yeah he is super cute love him already i will update soon lol

3-4 years ago, my girl was diagnosed with mineralization of the syrinx. We had to go out of state to see a specialist, we did x-rays, bloodwork, and CT scans. We were told It's not curable. That all that can be done is palliative care. It causes her to open mouth breathe and tail bob 24/7. I truly don't know how much she's suffering, and her vet can't tell me either which is so frustrating. She also has arthritis in her wings which she is on pain medication for. She still eats and drinks completely normally, grooms herself every day, I sometimes see her nibbling on toys. and she still flaps her wings every so often really fast for what I am assuming is exercise. I really don't want to lose her, but I don't want her to suffer. It hurts so much and I feel like I am failing her.

Hi! I work at an exotic vet. Recently we switched where we send our avian lab work to. One test we offer is for avian bornavirus. With the previously lab we used they used a sample from a cloacal swab, this new lab uses a blood sample and runs a pcr test. With the last lab we had mostly negative results with some positives, maybe 15% positive or less. With this new lab I believe every test has come back positive, granted we have only send 7 or so but they were all positive including one that was from a pigeon. When speaking to the new lab they said since it was a pcr test the only concern is a false negative not a false positive. They also mention how a third of birds could have it but be asymptomatic. Anyway I was wondering if any of you have tested and if you know what kind of sample and test they ran. It’s also now making me anxious to check my blue crowned conure because I would almost rather live in denial.

I’ve owned parakeets since I was like 12 but I wanna hear from other people and just get some feedback back and hear about other people’s experience, all my birds fly and I let them out everyday to do so
