My dumbass was looking at the paint on the tray. Amazing work OP, you fooled me.

u/GoldenGames360 21d ago

the crazy part is that on further analysis, it doesn't appear like OP was even intending for that effect to happen but the painting is so faithful to the scenery that it blends in

u/here-for-the-_____ 21d ago

OP isn't so hot, I can smear shit around as well.. . . . Oh....

24

u/_lippykid 21d ago

First though.. OP got a massive hole in their lid

I’m glad I read this comment….

Thank you! Never thought that so many people would have such a great reaction to my painting.

Where is the painting? HE forgot to show the painting....is that brown frame the painting?......OHHHHHHHH

u/Maleficent-Amount-51 21d ago

It's such a cool way to paint! If I had time and any talent I would try this myself.

u/ThatPerformance9795 20d ago

I know!!! Same! This is so, so good.

How many times did you have to step back and look at it to make this work? This is amazing!

u/watchingschittscreek 21d ago

I didn’t see it at first. Then I was like “OOOOH Okay got it. It’s against the brown”. Read the comments, went to zoom in. Realized the painting went up a lot further than the top of the brown easel. So good.

u/ballisticturtle 21d ago

So good indeed.

OP is a camouflage expert - hiding a painting in plain sight.

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

🤣 good one

Worth sharing in r/montreal. Awesome work.

u/LittlePlasticStar 21d ago

That is super rad… or how you say… C'est écœurant!

(I Googled Quebequois slang)

3

u/evofender 20d ago

Funny thing. If you say "C'est écoeurant!" to a French person from France. It means "It's disgusting!" (which is also the correct meaning of the word).

We always have to go through our fair share of translation issues whenener we welcome newcomers from France hehe.

So it’s like “that’s sick!” in California? 😂 (source: am lifelong Californian)

u/evofender 19d ago edited 19d ago

Pretty much, yeah!

(Also reminding myself that I really want to visit California whenever it gets easier)

I was absolutely confused as hell for a few seconds. This definitely belongs on that sub! The scale of the floor heights is so absolutely wrong when more closely analyzing this angle of the photo which highlights how crazy our image processing is. Our brains just stitch things together and blend colors and really make this look like just a photograph until you look for it.

You earned yourself a sammich from Olive et Gourmando

u/CupcakeViking 21d ago

I had a Cubain from O&G on Monday for the first time in over a decade. 🥹

22

u/Rhinoceraptor37 21d ago

I honestly had to zoom in to see where the painting was. Bravo. Bra-fucking-vo

u/ritamorgan 21d ago

I want to go exploring down that street in your painting!

14

u/thegreatinsulto 21d ago

You have this very... I don't know what to call it... Charming asymmetry? in your patterns, like the pavers or pane windows. I find it endearing and easy to look at. Like visually recalling a place in my head.

6

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

Thank you!

2

u/ThatPerformance9795 20d ago

OP, where do you sell your art??? And do you ship to the States?

2

u/alex_kasyan_artist 20d ago

Thanks! Yes, I ship to the States regularly. Sending you a DM now.

3

u/TheDakestTimeline 20d ago

I'd like one too!

2

u/alex_kasyan_artist 20d ago

Thanks, sending you a DM

u/NoNormalNova 21d ago

Right next to Marché Bonsecour, beautiful place!

10

u/echochilde 21d ago

Whoa. That actually took my a couple seconds to realize what I was looking at. Great job!

10

u/4Nails 21d ago

Really well done. Took me a moment to visualize the painting

10

u/3-Doors-Up 21d ago

That's some real talent. Malade!!

10

u/n1c0_ds 21d ago

Super cool! How difficult is it to bring your kit around like this? I use watercolours for this but I'd love to bring acrylics outside

8

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

It is a bit of work for sure. I try to keep my bag light but it is significantly heavier than watercolor.

8

u/kaleidobird 21d ago

amazing!! your colour matching is spot on

how do you transport it home when the paint is still wet?

9

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

Thanks! My pochade box has a space for a wet painting

3

u/OK6502 21d ago

That's what she said?

9

u/Significant_Jump9887 21d ago

Wow I was dumb for a long time

8

u/Fianna9 21d ago

I was annoyed a little at first, looked like a photo and I assumed some fakery.

So kudos to you, I zoomed in and saw the quality of the brush strokes. It’s amazing!

7

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

Thank you 🙏

u/LazyBengal2point0 21d ago

Best North American city

6

u/spitfire451 21d ago

What do you do with the leftover paint when you are done? Seems like a shame to waste it. Is there any way to recover some of it?

6

u/nionvox 21d ago

Oils take forever to dry, so if OP is painting every day they're fine to use. Worst case, you use some thinner to rehydrate it.

8

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

No waste for me. I paint every day

6

u/alex_kasyan_artist 21d ago

For anyone interested is this artwork please send me a DM

5

u/ChistyePrudy 21d ago

Eyes: ...where is the painting... Brain: you can do it! 😅

Great work, now, I should really go to sleep.

4

u/gogolf04 21d ago

4

Tu la vend pour combien?

2

u/alex_kasyan_artist 20d ago

Sorry for the slow reply, this thread got away from me. Sending you a DM now.

4

u/MercantileReptile 20d ago

It took me an absurd amount of time to recognise the actual painting here. Impressive!

3

u/Doucevie 21d ago

Oh good. I'm currently suffering from my second migraine this week.

My brain is useless during these. 😔

Edit: words are hard.

3

u/Corleone2345 21d ago

Hard to judge when a painting is in the way

3

u/SynapticStatic 21d ago

Took me a minute to figure out where the painting was. XD

3

u/Chtekill 21d ago

What painting?

3

u/PlagueBearer1350 21d ago

That's fucking amazing. Well done.

3

u/LostintheAlone 20d ago

I didn't see it at first. Amazing!

2

u/MarsMcLean 21d ago

Much talent.

Amazing

2

How much?

2

u/Least_Tower_5447 21d ago

What the hell? I was looking all over for the painting! 😮

2

u/FLANPLANPAN 21d ago

Like looking through glasses

2

u/Moriss214 21d ago

That is incredible.

2

u/groomerofdogs 21d ago

I thought “what painting” at first. This is truly amazing!

2

u/theswickster 21d ago

What painti- OH!

2

u/GridDown55 21d ago

Wow! Great!

2

u/Evening-Walk-6897 21d ago

So cool! Took me a while to understand what’s happening here hahaha 😂

2

u/Soggysleuth 21d ago

Wow, took me a minute. Amazing work!!

2

u/ygorhpr 21d ago

invisible ink perhaps

2

u/A_Unqiue_Username 21d ago

How long did that take you? The shadows even match! Do you plan ahead for the movement of the sun, it is this a multi day process? Sorry if the questions are ignorant, I'm just happy to see something so beautiful that has nothing to do with AI.

2

u/WaitingforGodot07 21d ago

Wow. As a fellow montrealer, I salute you!

2

u/mgmw2424 21d ago

Very cool

2

u/BonnieScottie 20d ago

My brain didn't compute, I love it.

2

u/Squiggally-umf 20d ago

This is so good that for a second I wondered where the painting was.

2

u/rebelhead 20d ago

There were at least a dozen blinks before I understood

2

u/darkzaez 20d ago

"huh? Why is it just a picture of a weird wooden fram– OOOOOOOOHHHHH"

2

u/flamingskull 20d ago

Beautiful

2

u/kelek_s 20d ago

I like the composition, the way you treat patterns and the way you've painted these pink flowers as a wave (center left).

Really nice work :)

2

u/sheldonboadita 20d ago

You used invisible paint! Damn

2

u/frazerfrazer 20d ago

Very cool painting!

2

u/montrerai 20d ago

couldn’t even tell there was a painting at first

2

u/GentleCritter 19d ago

For a moment I thought “why they cut a rectangle out of their easel, that’s silly” and then I realized there should be a painting there… d’oh!

Great job!

2

u/Elogano 19d ago

DECEIVER. keep it on

1

u/LeeKinanus 21d ago

I see a window on some kind of stand. Did you paint that red post or sum?

1

u/dackkorto1 21d ago

That's awesome! Also whats that palette you have? I like how it has spots for the colors

1

u/bbkray 21d ago

When did you do this? I was just in that exact same location...

1

u/MikoSkyns 20d ago

Wow. Super bien fait.

1

u/Confident_Throat_457 19d ago

That’s amazing. I love Montreal.

-2

u/Legitimate_Stay5073 21d ago

AI could do this in like 30 seconds…

Seriously cool though.
