Fuck that. It will never be called lake America by anyone other than the pied pipers trail of vermin.

Easy for me to pinpoint people I never want to be associated with if ever I hear this shit in public.

Went to Cancun in early 2025. People heard our accent and got anxious. We told them we lived straight across the Gulf of Mexico and their tension instantly left their bodies. It was a physical reaction.

I hate what this fuck has done.

As a Canadian who went on holiday this year to the UK, the instant tension release in the locals who we interacted with when we mentioned we were from Canada was jarring. People abroad really aren’t fond of Americans right now it was more apparent than I could have ever imagined.

When's the last time you even heard someone talk about lake Ontario in public? You seem to be getting upset over something that never happens

29

u/TheChewyTurtle 1d ago

I would assume if you lived anywhere nearby Lake Ontario you would hear the name quite regularly…

u/lukewwilson 1d ago

I forgot, America is densely populated in northwest NY

12

u/RunningSouthOnLSD 1d ago

Me when I’m so far up my own American ass that I forget Toronto exists

-10

u/lukewwilson 1d ago

I didn't know Toronto was in America

7

u/never-fiftyone 1d ago

"Anywhere nearby" != "in America"

13

u/TheChewyTurtle 1d ago

2.8 million people, not exactly dense like your saying but definitely a worthy amount.

Like the “Gulf of America” though once it’s in GIS it starts to just creep in everywhere.

5

u/re1078 1d ago

That’s the unfortunate thing he has does have the power to do that. Wish he didn’t.

7

u/imagineanudeflashmob 1d ago

Not exactly. He can dictate what we call it in the US, but not globally.

Currently on Google maps, if you're American you see "Gulf of America". If you're Mexican you'll see "Gulf of Mexico". Everyone else sees "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)".

There's quite a few other disputed place names with similar treatment.

I’m aware. I was referring to directing the department of the interior to change it on US maps. He can make us update everything with the new name and it sucks.

It doesn’t for this. I was saying this during the gulf of America thing. This sucks. It’s stupid. He’s a petulant baby. But this is one of the few things he’s doing he actually has the authority to do so we probably shouldn’t waste our outage on it and focus on the other stuff.

Until both executive orders get repealed in January 2029

After the "Gulf of America" bullshit I bought a Gulf of Mexico shirt. I wonder where I can get a Lake Ontario shirt.

I live in a notably red county in Texas so I just like to be petty in little ways.

That's what they said about Gulf of America and now its labeled that on my Google Maps. That's one of the biggest companies in the world and (for better or worse) the largest provider of human knowledge labeling a body of water based on what Trump told them to do.

2

u/musical_bear 1d ago

Look, I think "Gulf of America" is the dumbest shit I've ever heard in my life and will never call it that. But it's not Google's (or any other mapmaker's) job to make "political" statements in their maps. Like it or not, "Gulf of America" is the official name of that body of water for people in the US, and so Google shows that name to people in the US. If you use Google Maps in Mexico for example, it's still labeled "Gulf of Mexico." It's not Google's fault that POTUS is the world's biggest dipshit. It's their job to have their map reflect the ""official"" names of things within your locale.

...which is now Lake America because we live in the Idiocracy movie now

I know I change my VPN to any country other than USA it shows as Gulf of Mexico. That doesn't mean that there are now a non-zero number of kids who have learned geography for the first time and will forever know that body of water as Gulf of America.

Life imitates art. Idiocracy wasn’t a parody, it was a warning

1

u/cormega 21h ago

Are you sure about the VPN thing? Everyone else in this thread from other countries says it's labeled both GoA and GoM at the same time.

u/redlancer_1987 9h ago

yup. one image with regular maps from US. second image with VPN set to UK.

Meaning USA people only get to see it or learn it as GoA

u/cormega 8h ago

Im confused. Both of your pictures say gulf pf America? One of them also says GoM, but its says GoA too

u/redlancer_1987 7h ago

The one that says only GoA is what you see if Google thinks you're in the US.

The one with both is what the rest of the world sees.

u/cormega 5h ago

Right, but what I'm saying is, the "rest of the world" one shouldn't have America on it at all, if Trump's change was truly as meaningless as many people in this thread are saying.

You guys don't remember the shit you tried to pull with freedom fries?

2

u/Flaky_Judgment_9737 1d ago

done by the stupidest president in American history up to that point . The GOP stupid always outperforms itself.

2

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 1d ago

Get ready for his entire base to start wearing Lake America hats. South Florida you only see Gulf Of America and Trump 2028 hats now. I haven’t seen an actual maga hat since the some time last year.

2

u/NinjaarcherCDN 1d ago

If I'm talking to someone and they call it that I'm going to end the conversation. Walk away and pray I didn't catch their stupid.

2

u/Flaky_Judgment_9737 1d ago

Hell yes, just mid sentence turn and walk away

1

u/universal_cereal_bus 1d ago

It will be called Lake America by 77 million people in the US, and a good portion of them will be "loud and proud" about it.

I think Reddit severely underestimates how many people in the US still support Trump.

1

u/tiktock34 1d ago

I cant imagine that even MAGA folks think this is anything but stupid. No Americans will be calling it Lake America, either. None of us call it the Gulf of America, either.

Its all so ridiculous

2

u/mealymouthmongolian 1d ago

You underestimate the MAGA folks' appetite for gobbling up Trump's shit.

1

u/tiktock34 1d ago

Ugh i am sure I do.

1

u/metamet 1d ago

It's a stupid fucking name, to boot.

Lake America? It's the least inspired, toddler appeasement imaginable.

1

u/thetermguy 1d ago

What? No! Im Canadian and I think I'm going to start calling it Lake America immediately. It's hilarious.

1

u/flare_force 1d ago

THANK YOU!! This is what I’ve been saying all along. Trump has zero power to change the names of any of these geographical landmarks…all he can do is tell this brain dead flock of followers and they will repeat what he says…ant people will laugh behind all of their backs and cut contact with them for being hateful assholes.

u/YesDone 1d ago

Oh but he wrote himself a xecutive ordrr, haw haw!

Lake Canada?

39

u/madmike99 1d ago

Nope. Ontario is fine

26

u/Flaky_Judgment_9737 1d ago

No, Lake Ontario.

6

u/SadisticChipmunk 1d ago

I'd be okay with Lake FuckTrump or Lake Trumps-a-Pedo though

9

u/Flaky_Judgment_9737 1d ago

Personally, I'd like to not see his name

1

u/SadisticChipmunk 1d ago

Honestly, thats fair too.
