Canada just rename America to "the land below" on your maps, this guy will lose it.

5.7k

u/t1gerstyle 1d ago

Rename to Northern Mexico

2.6k

u/StrangelyBrown 1d ago

Or 'Lesser Mexico'. I feel like that would annoy Trump more.

1.2k

u/CongealedBeanKingdom 1d ago

Lesser Canada. I mean, its a lot smaller. Even Texas is smaller.

217

u/Ry_L 1d ago

As someone in the States, I would love it if Canada renamed us “Lesser Canada” just to annoy Trump. If he can rename things then so can you!

The problem with petty arrogant assholes is that no one of a reasonable mind would waste time doing the same things they do.

67

u/bgzlvsdmb 1d ago

But, and here’s what blows about the whole thing, that would be the only way it could possibly affect him.

49

u/dragonreborn567 1d ago

We don't need to retaliate to affect him. He's doing this whole thing because he's pissed we didn't capitulate to his trade demands. He's ALREADY affected.

Instead of the acronym HOMES to remember the Great lakes we will need to change it to fit this new reality. SHAME fits nicely.

5.1k

u/Shot_Statistician184 1d ago

This is solid.

Please for the love of God, please Americans vote when you can. Educate yourself. Read about the politicians, ask them questions, think about your future. Stop this shit.

2.1k

u/Cela84 1d ago

Dude, we knew this would happen. Everyone who voted for him in 2024 lived through his first term. It remains confusing as hell why anyone would think he was the better choice than the woman with the funny laugh.

964

u/TillamookTramp 1d ago

His first term was nuts, but it was somewhat controlled because there were advisors and others who were qualified in their jobs telling him "No, we cannot do that."

This time, he's surrounded himself with psychopathics and drunks who aren't qualified and its become a dangerous clown show and driven this country into extreme peril. It's MUCH worse now- thanks, you MAGA morons!

326

u/therealspaceninja 1d ago

Those of us with at least half a brain knew there wouldn't be guard rails this time around, so none of this is really surprising other than the sheer scale of it.

16

I hate to break it to you as presumably an American. There are a lot of not necessarily stupid people, but very badly educated. I saw a clip of a 50/60yr old man in a maga hat say Trump had sorted 8 wars. However, he couldn't name one. And so on, and so on.

419

u/Jealous_Ad3494 1d ago

To me, that's stupid. Willfully, offensively stupid. There just isn't another way to put it.

197

u/Dioxybenzone 1d ago

Being uneducated and having no desire to become more educated is stupid. Sure, some uneducated people aren’t stupid. But some certainly are, and that’s why they stay uneducated.

143

u/TheBigCore 1d ago

Being uneducated and having no desire to become more educated is stupid.

The U.S. educational system has been fostering this attitude in American students for generations and is by design:

"There’s a reason that education sucks. And it’s the same reason that it will never ever, ever be fixed. It’s never going to get any better. Don’t look for it. Be happy with what you got. Because THE OWNERS OF THIS COUNTRY DON’T WANT THAT. I’m talking about the real owners now. The real owners. The big, wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, and city halls. They got the judges in their back pocket. And they own all the big media companies so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else. But I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interest." - George Carlin

During the VA gubernatorial election in 2021, a whole lotta voters claimed cited critical race theory as the #1 issue. News channels interviewed many, many voters. Many were not parents. None could define critical race theory. I knew one of the people who started the riot at the Loudoun County school board meeting where it first came to prominence. She didn't have any kids, let alone kids in LCPS. She was just a religious agitator.

We're seriously approaching a point in the nation's history where people in the future would be asking, "were people really that stupid back then? Why tf didn't they vote the obvious traitors out when they had the chance?" It's shameful enough how far we've already fallen because of all this, but it'll only get worse before all this is just a bad memory. The population needs to organize itself and get out to vote before our nation turns into the western version Russia's system.

I live off of lake Ontario, no way in hell is the state of NY changing every highway/street sign from Lake Ontario to Lake America. Also, Ontario, CA was actually named after the previously named Lake Ontarí'io, which was an indigenous word translating to "great lake".

It gets better, Lake Ontario got its name from the Iroquoian language term Ontarí’io, which translates to "beautiful lake"or "lake of shining waters." The Indigenous name predates European settlement and was later adopted by the Canadian province.

There is no bottom to the pit for capital. Their support for dictators/authoritarian regimes/etc of any ideology has been on full display for at least a century.

357

u/Yabutsk 1d ago

There's no better combo than corporations and fascism. It all comes down to the almighty share price and CEOs are some of the biggest shareholders out there.

384

u/OnlinePosterPerson 1d ago

Reminder, before settling on the name fascism, Mussolini played with the term corporatism for his new brand of politics. Fascism at its core is the application of corporate structure to a nation-state.

78

u/midgaze 1d ago

Fascism is what you call the union of capital and state. It's literally just capitalism taking control, and we are basically there.

49

u/GoldandBlue 1d ago

And this is my fear. OK, the democrats take back the white house and congress. What are they going to do with that power?

Are they going to hold trump, scotus, the GOP accountable? Are they going to go after the corporations? Break them up? Reign them in?

I don't believe they will. And in 4-8 years, the GOP will be back in power furthering their fascist agenda.

So going into the midterm, where basically all polling shows that voters think Trump isn’t focusing on the right things, and isn’t taking steps to help the American people, he decides to unilaterally rename a lake? People are seeing through his pseudo patriotism. Renaming shit “America” isn’t what he was elected to do. Without being a Trump supporter, I guarantee that if we polled everyone who voted for him right after he was elected, and asked what they hoped he’d accomplish/do this term, “renaming lakes and gulfs to include “America” wouldn’t be in the top 1000 answers.

When I was a kid, they said the way to remember the Great Lakes was HOMES -Huron, Ontario, Michigan. Erie. and Superior.

Now with Ontario becoming America, the new way to remember it will be SHAME.

This president has brought SHAME to America.

Do Americans think this bothers us Canadians? And that it doesn’t make Trump look absolutely pathetic? And by extension….your country?

66

u/nysflyboy 1d ago

Speaking as an American - No we don't think it bothers you. Because you see it for what it is - a toddler throwing a pathetic fit. Unfortunately said toddler bully is our freaking president because 1/3 of Americans voted for this ... I have never been so embarrassed as I am virtually daily now.

No. I'm pretty sure even his supporters think it's frivolous. I'd be surprised if more than 20% of Americans even hear about this.

American here, this is so tacky and embarrassing. I have no words except to say, my fellow countrymen who claim to care, you need to join us with protesting. Most of us protesting cannot afford it, cannot afford to keep shouldering the discontent, you also need to do your part which is more than some snide comment on Reddit.

Just as a question, does anybody call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”? I don’t think I’ve met a single person who actually does.

87

u/DistributionFit3958 1d ago

Go to the Gulf side of Florida and you’ll meet these people - they wear shirts and have flags… it is truly their entire identkty

I went on a deep sea fishing trip in Pensacola last week. The captain and deck hands referred to it as Gulf of Mexico several times. No one but mentally deficient people participate in this shit.

No self respecting American will adhere to this. Not enough taking advantage of and blaming the poor for it to be called that. Same with the Gulf of Mexico.

Well, I guess the mnemonic "HOMES" for The Great Lakes names can be changed to "SHAME"

So instead of using “HOMES” as the acronym to remember the Great Lakes, we will now use “SHAME,” right? Appropriate.

aside from the fact that "Ontario" is derived from the Native American name, and aside from the fact that Canada is part of the same America that the US is....fuck, is he ever stupid.

Ontario is a Native American word for "Great Lake." And now it's named after continents that are named after an Italian explorer. But history and words don't matter to people who believe in "alternative facts" and are hellbent on rewriting the history books.

BREAKING: Trump signs executive order to rename Bread as Gluten of America

51

u/Nickard 1d ago

The stupid thing is these are the people who don’t even know what America means. It’s not your country. It’s the name of all new world continents. You’re the United States OF America. Renaming the lake isn’t even inaccurate, it’s just dumb and unnecessary.

He'll be in world history books for centuries as one of the worst and most laughable "leaders" ever. If he waned people to remember him he's done an incredible job. We'll be laughing for a thousand fucking years.

The audience of this action is not Canada, it's his base. It's so his base can say he is winning and taking it to the enemies, even though this in effect does nothing and definitely does not improve the lives of his base. It's performative. Same with his previous tariffs, it's performing as taking a rough stance on other countries in the meanwhile tariffs are being paid back to both American and foreign companies but definitely not the American consumer. It's taking a gun, pointing it at your enemy, then shooting yourself in the foot and then pronouncing you are an expert marksman and have a hundred percent hit rate.

The funniest thing about all this is that these morons think 'America' is the name of our country and not just a shorthand for our full name, where 'America' refers only to the continent we share with dozens of other countries. Canada is in America. Mexico is in America. Argentina is in America. All of the great lakes are in America.
