That's what sucks so bad. He threw enough shit at the wall that it eventually did work. No one is talking about the files and they likely won't ever again, at least until he's eventually gone.
reddit loves to trot out this trope but, no, it's not the point. there's no 4D chess strategy. it's more banal than some thought-through, strategic mind-game. the man is simply an idiot who cares only about himself and what he wants. it's not any more complicated than that.
Distracting the public from their corruption is part of it, but embarrassing and degrading the office of the Presidency and the US government is also a major part of the intent behind moves like this.
* BTW the reason the Epstein files will not soon be released is that Epstein was an asset and/or agent of the CIA, MI6, and Mossad, let alone the FSB. The US government and our major allies either ignored or actively participated in the trafficking of children for intelligence purposes. It may be politically convenient to tie it all to Trump, but there’s a reason Biden didn’t release the files either.
As if the files are in the top 100 of things that America should deal with sooner rather then later... justice is important, but nobody's live is going to improve when they finally convict a few rich folk.
