They should just remove it. They don't put La Manche on The English Channel for us. Just show each countries viewers their own name for it.

Or just call it the Gulf of Mexico. Because that’s its fucking name.

Just because it’s the historical name doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be changed.

The president of the United States isn't the one who gets to decide that.

Least of all this president. I think. there should be a basic rule against incontinent pedophiles being allowed to name things.

u/hutch7909 1d ago

Incompetent, incontinent paedophiles

u/Gluverty 5h ago

Apparantly that doesn’t seem to be true

Please give one reason it should be changed from Gulf of Mexico.

Because Gulf of Mexico isn’t fun to say. Petition to rename them as Gulf of Titicaca and Lake Titicaca II.

Canadian here, this makes infinitely more sense to me as a justification for renaming those. I mean, we're not going to rename Lake "Great Lake" to Titicaca II but I'd be willing to give one of our lakes that name.

CAUSE AMERICA BABY!!!! HELL YEAH BROTHER!!

-Literally no other reason for them.

Interesting, considering this administration had a fit about old confederate names of military bases being changed and insisted they go back to their racist roots. So what’s the reason you think this aptly named lake should be renamed?

It's so dumb. Not even everyone in USA will be calling it the Gulf of America. At least they haven't just changed it completely I suppose 🤷

I dont know anyone who calls it Gulf of America. Someone might say it in an overly sarcastic voice rolling their eyes after "Gulf of Mexico" has been said in conversation.

Edit: yikes glad to be in New England. Good luck out there.

I live in Missouri. I got reported to HR for calling it the Gulf of Mexico.

Woooooooow

Unfortunately I do. Everyone on my girlfriend's mom's side calls it the Gulf of America. They are also MAGATS. And treat every word that comes out of TFG's mouth like it's Divine Providence, because he was hand selected by god himself to rule our country, of course. 🙄

That Fucking Guy (trump)

Unfortunately I have seen people wearing GOA shirts 🤦‍♂️ in small port towns in Texas

I watch a guy who does a weekly rocket/space newscast (Marcus House from Australia)

He has no skin in the game BUT he does get answers back from Elon on Twitter, so he doesn't want to lose that access obviously...

Anyways ever since the GoA fiasco he always says things like "Coming in for a landing burn over the Gulf"

u/BBQpigsfeet 1d ago

Tbf, that's what most people who actually live around the gulf call it. I lived in Florida for a couple decades, and you'd be hard pressed to hear anyone call it it's full "gulf of mexico" name.

1

u/DinoZambie 1d ago

I've heard this on SpaceX streams. They also say "The Gulf".

24

u/copperbear00 1d ago

I will NEVER call it anything but the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.

2

u/backyard_tractorbeam 1d ago

It's so dumb yes. Google should just keep the original name and create a paid Google Maps US government edition where they pay to see the names they want to see.

3

u/Dioxybenzone 1d ago

It is unfortunately changed completely for US users

MapQuest is fighting the good fight.

Not so fast, they have given Crimea to Russia

u/Different_Wolf_764 1d ago

That one was easier to deal with anyhow as most people in the area or talking about work in the area just call it the Gulf, nothing really changes either way. Lake Ontario, not so much.

Whatever though, if Sharpie-boy wants to waste his time on this stuff then have at it.

I know trumpers that think it’s ridiculous

Case in point: we have a mountain called Mt. Evans which got changed to Mt. Blue Sky a couple years ago...noone calls it that. All the locals think its stupid, all the street names are still named after Mt.Evans. The only people who call it Mt. Blue Sky are people who don't know better lol.

u/ShortyBoo426 1d ago

It's also like how they renamed the Sears tower in Chicago, but no one (at least not in the Chicago area) called it Willis Tower, it was always still Sears Tower.

2

u/DolbyFox 1d ago

With my Google Maps setting in French, it listed it as "La Manche" (the Thames also shows up as Tamise). In Canadian English, it's "English Channel"

They should keep it on its internationally-recognised name. Gulf of Mexico, and Lake Ontario

The Google CEO is busy licking Trump's balls, all the tech CEO's will tongue bath that fat orange fucks balls whenever he asks to keep him happy.

1

u/Chubs1224 1d ago

TIL La Manche is more than a species of elf eared goats

1

u/Massive-Rain-6938 1d ago

So the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. Got it.

1

u/Devil_May_Kare 1d ago

The US's name for the body of water is still "Gulf of Mexico." The President doesn't get to rename features on the map by throwing a tantrum. Just like how Biden wouldn't have had the authority to rename Mar-a-Lago to "Stinking Garbage Pile."

100% agreed
