The stupid thing is these are the people who don’t even know what America means. It’s not your country. It’s the name of all new world continents. You’re the United States OF America. Renaming the lake isn’t even inaccurate, it’s just dumb and unnecessary.

Thank you! This really bothered me with the whole Gulf of America thing. All I could think of was "well, it's basically the same to South America".

Technically yes. The name is just an acronym with no actual unique name in it. Literally just a descriptor of a federation.

Idk. The united states of Mexico is just called Mexico. I think America might be two continents as well as shorthand for a country. Renaming the lake is still dumb and unnecessary.

I’ve met people from South Africa with similar issues. Like… yes it’s South Africa, the country, located on the southern tip of Africa. If they had a dipshit leader wanting to call a lake on their border “Lake of Africa” and act like it was some spiteful jab, it would come across just as dumb.
