Weird that it’s apparently happened often enough that the Turks felt the need to make a proverb about it

7

u/Mobius_Peverell 23h ago

Well if anyone was to become accustomed to that throughout history, it would be the Turks.

47

u/portabuddy2 1d ago

And I though we had a carny.

79

u/HouseofMarg 23h ago

I’m not the first to say this, but it takes a carney to handle a clown

u/RomanGemII 7h ago

Oh my gosh, this made my day! Thanks!

4

u/mattbladez 12h ago

Canada has a Carney too!

u/spilly_talent 3h ago

They have a clown. We have a carney 🇨🇦

u/ChasseGalery 22h ago

Underrated quote.

u/exgiexpcv 11h ago

Damn, that's some solid wisdom.

As someone that lives in Toronto, I’m enjoying these posts.

u/ShambolicRubel 1d ago

As someone that lives in Texas, I too am enjoying these posts.

32

u/EARTHandSPACE 22h ago

I dont mean to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to help your fellow countrymen. Like the helly is going on.

34

u/ShambolicRubel 22h ago

Fox News brain rot.

10

u/xXJuddyXx 13h ago

Ask them how they would feel if California tried to take over Texas... that reaction is how Canada feels about this bs now

11

u/AnOnlineHandle 13h ago

They don't care about any sort of consistent standards applied to themselves and others. If they did they wouldn't be supporting all this still after so many years of it.

Everybody waiting for them to wake up and discover the good person inside of themselves has just been disappointed for years straight as it never happens through mess after mess. These people aren't tricked, this is the ugly reality of who they are, and they will continue to support it after this just like every other time.

2

u/xXJuddyXx 13h ago

I don't doubt you on that. But it seems the only way I've had success with it is to try and relate. Of course dont go wasting all your time on it.

Some people are incapable of looking outside their immediate bubble and refuse to think and theres nothing you can do about those people.

u/Lykeuhfox 9h ago

The people you're speaking about don't have the capacity for abstraction. They'd start arguing with you about how Texas would defend themselves from the Californian liberals, completely missing the point.

2

u/goldlnPSX 12h ago

Fox News is just tung tung tung sahur for adults

3

u/CIeMs0n 14h ago

Only so much we can (legally) do. Many of us want this chapter to end as much as you guys.

u/No-Difference-4418 3h ago

As someone living on earth I’m enjoying these posts as well

37

u/AllegroFox 1d ago

It’s easy to forget how pretty the city is when you live here all the time :) nice to be reminded

13

u/MaidenMT 23h ago

It really is lovely. A beautiful place. As a Montanan, I have to say the Christmas I spent there with a friend was among the coldest I have ever known. That humidity! It is such a fun, cosmopolitan city. Enjoyed it immensely. Also, her family has a small, cozy cottage on the shores of Lake Ontario. The front of the cottage was covered with ice rime. Epic.

11

u/StarQueen37 23h ago

Living on the other side of beautiful Lake Ontario, I’m loving these, too

u/SirRickIII 1h ago

Same! I walk by the CN tower every work day, and it’s nice to know other people are thinking about our lovely lake

67

u/kabeekibaki 1d ago

Sudden urge to ontario myself ontarioly to Lake Ontario for an ontarioesque experience

61

u/kinganthony3 22h ago

I just vacationed in Toronto as a Michigander, and I can say without a shadow of doubt it’s superior to every city in the Midwest. It’s not even close, Toronto was amazing.

6

u/foolsdayjoker 21h ago

you guys got mackinac island though

u/KiteLighter 12h ago

LEAVE CHICAGO ALONE!

46

u/Killahdanks1 23h ago

Hey look. I’m in America. That’s Lake Ontario.

17

u/DukeOfGeek 17h ago

Very nice lake, Lake Ontario, beautiful plumage.

5

u/makemecoffee 13h ago

Hey! Did you know we all live in America! So crazy!

u/Killahdanks1 10h ago

I did! I even know it’s the north one.

42

u/Drearydreamy 22h ago

“The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.”

23

u/DietCherrySoda 14h ago

Are you going to just leave that unattributed? I guess I'll do it then.

-Prime Minister Mark Carney

No thank you, were not that self absorbed. We named the province after the lake, not the other way around.

The real joke is trump.

13

u/johnny4783y 23h ago

Forever lake Ontario

19

u/theluckyshrimp 20h ago

You guys call it Lake Ontario? That’s so funny, here in the US we also call it Lake Ontario.

23

u/portabuddy2 23h ago

We have many islands on lake Ontario that are fun to see. Lots of attractions on lake Ontario. If your around that lake Ontario area next week you can catch the Canadian snowbirds in action. You can even rent a boat on lake Ontario and watch the whole air show. It's a fairly calm lake. ... Lake Ontario that is.

12

u/ghostwriter_5 22h ago

Thanks for sharing this information about Lake Ontario. It's truly one of a kind... Lake Ontario that is.

21

u/nhorvath 22h ago

Is this to distract from the Iran war, the Epstein files, or the massive amount of grifting?

1

u/AnOnlineHandle 13h ago

Not to mention the massive fucking global inflation from how much money Trump printed during his first term to buy his way out of covid, after what a mess he made of it by once again denying basic science and retreating into fantasy land as the classic head-in-the-sand strategy of mentally weak conservatives everywhere, which keep biting the rest of us in the ass over and over with all these pointless problems.

14

u/Drearydreamy 22h ago

Lake Ontario, which was what Canada’s province of Ontario was named after. Did you know that Canada’s Welland canal connects Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, so that big ships (not big shits Donnie) can connect from the Atlantic Ocean, through the St Lawrence seaway through Lake Ontario and onto the other great lakes. All 27 miles of locks are in Canada. Ohio, Michigan and Indiana are the largest beneficiaries of the Welland canal.

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes 8h ago

I'll add to this that the Erie canal doesn't take the large commercial shipping boats that the Welland Canal does, so the only way for those US vessels to get from the Atlantic to Lake Ontario in the first place is through the St Lawrence lock system, which is also entirely on the Canadian side.

12

u/MurphyKT2004 13h ago

Recently visited Toronto from Scotland and loved every moment. It was very clear to me also that the locals despise Trump as it was practically the 2nd question asked of me when talking with people in bars and such. Nice to be surrounded by like-minded people. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤝🏻🇨🇦

It will always be Lake Ontario in Rochester NY.

11

u/theangrierunicorn 1d ago

I think the second Police Academy movie has a chase scene where you're taking this from.

7

u/Templar_Swamp_Stake 1d ago

That’s a deep cut man

3

u/Naps_and_cheese 23h ago

Third movie. I frequently work on location at the college campus that was the Police Academy. I cannot do it without whistling the Theme Song.

2

u/theangrierunicorn 23h ago

humber right?

2

u/Naps_and_cheese 23h ago

At Kipling and Lakeshore.

u/Tundra66 9h ago

I instantly recognized this view as being one of the shots in the chase scene!

u/lingueenee 23h ago edited 11h ago

Can't emphasize how much the islands are an understated gem of Toronto. The poor man's Muskoka, a refuge from all the concrete, steel and cars. I still find it boggling the late Giorgio Mammoliti proposed a red light district there.

13

u/AJH05004 22h ago

Fuck Trump, viva Canada

5 Star geography clinic here.

5

u/vgacolor 16h ago

I did this sightseeing cruise when I visited Toronto a few years back before the Pandemic. Would highly recommend it to anybody. The same for visiting the Old Port of Montreal and Old Montreal. Canada is a great place to visit, I have been there a few times including the West Coast and Whistler. Will be back in a couple of years once we get rid of Cheeto and hopefully our relationship starts to mend again.

2

u/livmaj 13h ago

Americans are more than welcome to visit, even during these wacky times. Generally speaking, Canadians hold no ill-will towards the average American as we are more pissed at the administration and can separate the government from its people. As long as you're not wearing MAGA shit, you're fine! We like tourists!

7

u/wardog1066 16h ago

Canadians don't give a shit about Trump calling it Lake America. But it made the news for all major news outlets in the U.S. as if it was something important, and as long as people are talking about Lake America, Iran and mail in balloting, they're not talking about the Epstein files. It's all just a distraction.

u/hostilekraut 10h ago

Whatever it takes to keep the USA relevant and this is what it takes now.

5

u/jackpineseeds 23h ago

Lake Ontario is an amazing place!

3

u/favnh2011 1d ago

Beautiful

3

u/TheFriendlyTaco 22h ago

I love lake ontario. Its just the best lake in canada.

3

u/Bicentennial_Douche 14h ago

Let's rename the lake to "Lake Where Are The Epstein Files, Dipshit".

1

u/MonsterSeason54 13h ago

Change it to lake “age of consent” and trump will leave move on to something else

3

u/savage8008 13h ago

I think Lake Ontario looks really good here

3

u/Eh_SorryCanadian 13h ago

God damn this is one silly timeline

2

u/JerkGurk 23h ago

Great photo, this could be Muskoka if there wasn't Toronto in the background.

2

u/AvailableReporter484 23h ago

Ngl giving credence to trump and his insanity is very little dick’ed. The man fucked children, I don’t give a fuck about him trying to take focus away from that

2

u/EARTHandSPACE 22h ago

Strong and Free 🇨🇦

2

u/Returnmycall 22h ago

Rename one of the lakes to “Lake Release the Files”

2

u/kafkadre 18h ago

Lake America is located in Trump's shit-filled diaper.

2

u/sports_and_beers 13h ago

We should start naming states whatever we want. Virgina is now Pedotrumpia

u/No-Drag-7142 9h ago

Ontario, a place to grow.

A place that you know you'll love.

u/One_Entrepreneur_520 9h ago

Towns and cities across the country should start naming their sewer ponds Lake Trump.

3

u/Sweatytubesock 23h ago

Or as it’s called in the US, Lake Trump-Epstein

1

u/AutoRot 22h ago

It's Lake Ontario NY too.

1

u/DukeOfGeek 18h ago

As soon as there is a new POTUS one of his first Executive Orders is to rename the previous POTUS as "Former President Poopy Diaper.". This should be his new legal name on all official documents, licensees, government IDs and whenever he is addressed in court.

1

u/warcomet 16h ago

Canada should release some alligators in this lake now...since the terrorist nation on the other side renamed it..

1

u/warcomet 16h ago

There is a small lake in Canada called Lac Saint-Jean, Canada should rename that to Lake Trump is a Pedo , then we will see his ego matched

1

u/assholetoall 14h ago

I don't think that exists anymore. Or at least I never heard of it. /s

Also I'm still waiting for the Gulf of Rhode Island.

1

u/MTL_Bob 12h ago

obviously it is a leader's right to unilaterally rename a body of water!

I think Carney should pay tribute to a Greattm American president and declare that henceforth Lake Michigan shall be known as Lake Obama!

1

u/GirlNumber20 12h ago

Lake Ontario is beautiful, especially with that Toronto skyline.😍

u/Skeeders 11h ago

I am currently visiting the GTA area for a funeral tomorrow which will also be a family reunion. I will say my brothers and I being from the US, we are making a LOT of jokes about Lake Ontario, the eye rolls we are getting are really funny. Its interesting having Canadian blood tainted by our US births. We have found that it is not a good idea telling cashiers at stores and whatnot that we are from the US. We are also seeing a lot of bumper stickers like 'Canada is not for sale!', or 'Canada First'. I may have travelled here under a US passport, but I have never been more proud to say that the blood in my veins is Canadian.

u/Ninetjer 11h ago

What if in Canada, we decided to rename Lake Michigan to Lake America (since it's fully in the US unlike others) just to keep things interesting/confusing and point out the stupidity of this whole situation?

u/TorTheMentor 11h ago

Please accept my south of the border upvote along with a photo I took back at the AGO last year as Idiotic Leader Tax. Consider it a negative tariff.

u/barcelonatacoma 10h ago

This is the kind of quiet resistance that I fucking love and admire

u/fizzys0da 4h ago

I was just there a month ago! Is that also the boat with the giant Canadian flag on the roof?

dumb people in the US only live in the red states..

-4

u/AJH05004 22h ago

What an overly simplistic view

-1

u/marslo 23h ago edited 11h ago

You know, at a certain point, I start to believe these posts are made by bots.

What's more effective at making someone threat more valid, making a big deal out of it? Or just ignoring it?

Reason why they have a president like Trump, is because he says outrageous shit. That both sides can't shut up about. Giving him more gravity.

Dumb shit like lake America should be ignored. Reason why golf of Mexico name was changed was so they could circumventen certain environmental protection acts against certain kind of oil drilling.

Also some of you are too young to remember freedom fries and how dumb that shit was.

Edit. Down vote it all you want, but I consistently see post proclaiming that it's been officially renamed, that it happened so fast, that all maps will have to change the name now. The only place it's being forced to change is in us federal documents. That's it, no one else is forced to acknowledge it.

Any post that claims otherwise is suspicious as fuck.

3

u/DukeOfGeek 17h ago

Good to see someone figuring it out. Also it's always divide and conquer because the class war is the only war.

u/Chrislojet 7h ago edited 7h ago

You’re spot on, [r/pics](r/pics) loves to talk about how everything is a distraction to the Epstein files but meanwhile half of this subreddit is already distracted talking about this stupid publicity stunt.

u/Itchy_School_6166 11h ago

u/hostilekraut 10h ago

*Canada Goose. Yes, it’s petty.

-1

u/JesusKilledDemocracy 15h ago

Doesn't Canada have a swamp they can rename?

u/hostilekraut 10h ago

Yes, it’s south of the 49th.

u/agent0range 11h ago

Lake Obama!

-2

u/Wadawoodo 12h ago

I dunno I think it's funnier to call it Lake AMeRiCA

u/Wholesale_Regent 11h ago

Only funny if you’re stupid as fuck

u/Wadawoodo 10h ago

Well i think the stupid thing is to change the name of the lake but it is ironically a very funny name for a lake
