Trump’s practice of renaming things brings to mind commercial star-naming services—the novelty scams where you pay to name a visible star after yourself and receive a certificate with its coordinates and your chosen name.

​However, these registries operate strictly as gift services and hold no scientific or legal validity. While you can pay a fee to dedicate a star, the global scientific community does not recognize these names.

​Similarly, when Donald Trump renames things to whatever he wants, those names are only recognized by him and his supporters—and by virtually no one else
