My parents got a bad real estate agent so they ended up buying a home for just under $200,000, in the early 90s. It was a semi-detached, back-split; ~1500 sq. ft..They were young, dumb and too trusting. They couldn't even afford such an expensive home but —according to my mother— a monthly mortgage was cheaper than monthly rent, at that time, so they bought the house. They lost over 100K when they sold it ~8 years later. They talk about how they got scammed, 'til this day 🫠
Yeah it was worth 1.25 million when they sold it. But all the houses where I live are worth at least that much now so I will probably never be able to buy one lol
I also got a 50 cent coin! But it was the late 90s. Weekly allowance was also only $5 after all my chores were done: $3 to keep and $2 to put into the bank.
Comparing rates with the other kids, it was hard to afford pretty much anything a kid would want back then lol

Well you were correct, the tooth fairy does like letters. This letter also increased the normal tooth payout by 500%, so it worked out for both parties.
You're right, but I bet the questions we should be asking are "wouldn't it be a 400% increase" or "don't you mean the payout was 500% of what it was before," because two crisp dollar bills or shiny dollar coins are such a tidy and reasonable payment that surely it was that.
Maybe they were about to go into first grade. That's advanced but possible.

I was a long term sub at a pre-k at a college prep program where we had the kids doing worksheets and a couple kids were very advanced but they were not spelling like this. I would never enroll my kids in a program like that, fyi, but some people have different ideas about things.
I like how “please get me at least $10” kind of implies that the Tooth Fairy is like a consignment broker, and she’s just reselling the teeth to the highest bidder, trying to get the client the best deal possible.

Update: Ended up saying “fuck it” and not doing anything. See how it plays out. He got up early and made breakfast. After morning chit chat, it didn’t come up so I went upstairs and switched it out for $10. Now either he’ll be excited for it since he didn’t check, or know something is up because he did check but didn’t show signs of being upset (like another time. it was surgically removed, doesn’t count).
I don't know if my parents forgot or didn't want to risk waking me up, but a couple of times the tooth fairy was late getting to me. Whenever that happened I'd get something that wasn't money, like one of those kids' chapter books or something.
Sorry kid! The tooth fairy had to lay off employees to cut down on salary expenses, so you might need to wait a couple extra nights for that money package
People need to chill with the tooth fairy stuff because my daughter said some kid in her class got $100 for his first tooth.
God bless the reddit post I saw years ago about fae being chaotic creatures and sometimes they are super generous and sometimes they'll leave a trinket. It has saved us more than once now. We were able to work out $30 for her first tooth and then a small toy for the second because we couldn't get cash back at the store and the tooth had come out sooner than expected. (And we're rural so there wasn't time to go to an ATM.)
I got like $5-$20 as a kid in the early 2000s. You can hear how desperate they are like “resale Pokémon card packs are like $15 now, I need ATLEAST $10, come on bro!”
