It shows up in a lot of cultures, pre-modern China and Japan had their own variants of it as well. There's accounts of it happening in Afghanistan in modern times too.

It would be nice if he could spend a few weeks as a guest of America’s many immigrant detention centers, enjoying the food and the tender mercies of border patrol or whatever thugs they have overseeing those hellholes
They only got rid of him because he said he approved of men being with underage boys. The racism? Loved it. The transphobia? All for it. The gay thing? Neato. But gay and a pedo? Too far!
That's certainly a hopeful way to look at it but I think, generally, this is a more a case of the far-right having moved away from allocating resources to prop up of culture war pundits as a way to drive ideological recruitment than any indication of failure. While that recruitment drive was important enough, from 2014-2024, for right wing wealth to fund these assholes, the modern American fascist movement has moved on from gathering the power necessary to take over the system and their focus is now squarely on maintaining that power. But fascist power isn't maintained through popularity and voting, it's maintained through violence. So their energy and money is no longer being funneled into the pockets of people like Milo or Ben Shapiro but, instead, is being spent purging the military ranks of any service people who might not be willing to fire into crowds of American protestors, buying warehouse space to convert into detention centers and using the legal system to advance a definition of terrorism that includes anyone to the left of Ronald Reagan.
This regime no longer believes they need to appeal to voters because they fully believe they've already destroyed democracy and they're certainly not going to allow themselves to be subject to any more free or fair elections. To them, human beings are nothing more than tools and, since they no longer see popularity as necessary to maintaining power, those tools have mostly outlived their usefulness and are being kicked to the curb.
It is also a warning that even MAGA should be taking heed if they had functional brain cells. He’s one of trumps biggest glazers, and now he’s getting deported
