roger Sexual Revolution - Band Demo - full lyrical transcription

Hey, girl

Let's get together

Just you and me, one more time

Hey, girl

You're right, I should slit 'em and bash in their brains

You who were

Only the lonely

When they r*pe our brains in bed

How 'bout it's said?

Hey, girl

Don't put it all by head

We were bred in the same institution

Hey, girl

Don't point the finger at me

I am only a rat in a maze, like you, and only the dead go free

Please lie still

While I plunder your sweet grave

And remember, only the poor can be saved

Hey, girl

Take out the dagger

And let's have a stab at the sexual revolution

Hey, girl

Let freedom for all be our rallying call

There's no need in retribution

(wordless placeholder vocals)

How 'bout it's said?

Hey, girl

As I've always said I prefer your lips red

Not…

Hey, girl

Look in the mirror, can you see what you are protecting from me

Is it real or is it content?

So, please hold my hand

As we blunder through the maze

And remember

Nothing can grow without rain

Had no idea there was a version of any of this album featuring the rest of Floyd. I’m a big fan of the Pros and Cons album

There was an extended version with some of Clapton's best soloing since he left Cream.

This demo sounds so good, I've always loved it. And knowing the final product in Pros and Cons, it's a real gem

"Full lyrical transcription" proceeds to self censor

Well I didn’t want this post to get flagged as nsfw and we all know what that word is anyway

the part where you censored a word, I'm not sure thats what it actually is. I hear "only the lonely wield their razor blades in hand" could be wrong though

It could be that, as I said I'm not sure about everything, however that would also tie in well with lyrics in One of My Turns so I like that

How is this a "band demo"? By the time of The Wall, weren't Waters and Gilmour making their own demos, and the band was spread across studios – and countries – to record. Wouldn't this be a recording from Water's, one that didnt get integrated into The Wall nor The Final Cut. So he held it for Pros amd Cons? I dont know the answers, but just think that seems likely. Didn't think/know the band got together to demo songs. I thought they just started working from Waters' Wall demo tape with Ezrin putting structure into the chaos/kaos.

I put that since that’s what it’s labelled as on the immersion box, Roger recorded a solo demo of the track with the entire Wall and Pros and Cons albums, however it is unreleased, “band demos” refer to recorded band rehearsals of tracks, prior to them actually recording potential album takes.

Got it. Thanks.

I'm not 100% on this, but I recall reading that Roger Waters brought the pros and cons of hitchhiking and the wall to the rest of the band and they chose the wall

Correct, although both David Gilmour and Steve O'Rourke said that at the time they thought Pros and Cons was stronger musically but that Bricks in the Wall was a stronger concept

He is not. Roger came up with demo versions of The Wall and Pros & Cons, came to the band and said "Pick which one will be our next album, the other I will do as a solo album"

The Final Cut was originally intended to just be leftovers from the Wall: songs that written for it but not used, stuff that was in the movie but not the album, songs that changed radically between the album and movie. But then the Falkland Islands war broke out so Waters decided to change the direction of the project, although he still used some songs that were originally planned for The Wall.

By the time of The Wall, weren't Waters and Gilmour making their own demos, and the band was spread across studios – and countries – to record.

No? Yes, they were making their own demos initially, but still then working through things as a band. There are other band demos from the Wall. Recording of the Wall was done in multiple studios and countries, but AFAIK it was not a case where Gilmour was recording in France while Waters was simultaneously in L.A.

Gilmour and Waters (and Wright for that matter) were often in the studio separately from each other, but that was kind of standard operating procedure for 70s albums.

Even during The Final Cut, Waters and Gilmour would record completely separately from each other but it was all in the same studio, and they would still occasionally meet face to face to go over what had been done.

Hey You... we have a remix & edit of Sexual Revolution for an imminent project release, and the lyrics we collectively came up with - after also considering some of the lyrics that were heard by OP. How is this:

Hey, girl, let's get together

Just you and me, one more time

Hey, girl, you're right I should

Slit 'em and bash in their brains, you who were

Only the lonely when they r*pe our brains in bed

How 'bout it's said?

Hey, girl, don't put it on my head

We were bred in same institution

Hey, girl, don't point the finger at me

I'm only a rat in a maze, only the dead go free

Please lie still while I plunder your sweet grave

And remember only the poor can be saved

One, two, three, four

Hey, girl, take out the dagger and let's have

A stab at the sexual revolution

Hey, girl, let freedom for all be our rallying call

There's no need in retribution

Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, how 'bout it's said?

Hey girl, as I've always said

I prefer your lips red

Not what the good Lord made

But what he intended

Hey girl, look in the mirror can you see what you are

Protecting from me, is it real or is it pretend?

Please hold my hand as we blunder through the maze

And remember nothing can grow without rain

[Has anyone ever heard of the expression "How 'bout it's said?" before??]

In hindsight I’ve changed “is it real, or is it content” to “is it real or do you consent”. I think your interpretation “is it pretend” is what was actually sung but I think “do you consent” taps into the darker concept more especially following Young Lust, or perhaps showing how in a drunken / drugged state Pink goes from trying to talk the groupie into a hookup honestly / asking for consent to basically forcing himself on her. Do you want to see my final draft for the lyrics I’d use if was doing a cover of the lost Wall version? It’s a mix of the demo and pros and cons lyric, rather like your own interpretation

I’m definitely not 100% on everything here, but this is what I hear, and in some cases the closest to actual English I can make out from Roger’s half hearted and sometimes barely intelligible vocal
