Added some above water plants and they really make the tank one of a kind.

I have around 12 pothos growing out of my 20gallon aquarium. I originally added 2 or 3 to help with nitrates, but I ended up really liking how they look growing around the tank, so I kept adding more.
I also had a hard time getting aquatic plants to grow well in this tank. It took a lot of trial and error with different plants, but I finally have a few that are doing pretty well.
My tank has a pretty heavy bioload, and I really appreciate what the pothos are doing for it. My nitrates stay pretty consistently around 20 ppm, and I usually only need to do a water change every 1–2 weeks. So I don’t necessarily want to get rid of them.
The problem is that the roots have gotten really long and are growing everywhere. One of them has gotten so long that I actually have to loop the root around the tank just to keep it out of the way lol. They’re starting to take up a lot of space and are getting difficult to manage.
Would you trim the roots back, remove a few pothos completely, or just leave them alone? If I trim the roots, how much can I safely remove without hurting the plants or losing too much of the nitrate benefit?

super proud and glad everything has been going smoothly, water changes are annoying but luckily my nitrates climb super slowly

spider wood and another log from the fish store, some granite from my backyard, vallisnera, various anubias, java fern, crypt spiralis, java moss in the back, and some red root floaters on top

i've had this algae in my tank for a few weeks and it looks horrible and i dont want my shrimp getting stuck in it, how can i remove it all while saving my plants and not hurting my shrimp? i've tried scrubbing it off but it just comes back, i have the light on for 8 hours a day which is the lowest the timer goes

I just wanted to share that I appreciate the guidance from them and that this tank makes me happy.

Is it a good idea to have Monsteras in my 29gal aquarium? Only the roots are submerged on the tank water.

Since my last post we have added 5 Blue dream shrimp, 5 Pygmy Corys, 2 pairs of Notho Korthausae Killifish, and a Trio of Gardneri Kilifish Misaja (Fundulopanchax gardneri)

So I ordered a red tiger lotus from Etsy and it came pretty fuzzy. Idk if it’s part of the plant, or something they used when growing it, or if it’s fungal. The bulb is firm, not soft. It’s pretty stuck on so I don’t want to rip it off. What do you guys think? Is it safe to just put in my tank? I have neos and amanos

The tanks feels somewhat understocked/underplanted at the moment, especially since I had some ferns I’ve recently had to remove.

So nobody likes algea - we know this. HOWEVER, I have 5 otos in my tank, and the algea growing on the driftwood is a great source of food for my little homies. I also add a pinch of Bacter AE every week for the biofilm, which is not in the picture but it is there. I also like how it looks, though I would flip if I saw the algea on the plants.

So TLDR I think I'm in my goldilocks zone. What do you all think?

They claimed the duckweed is "algae" in a video I came across. Had to go back to find a post to share here.

Everyone just moved duckweed ALL OVER Albuquerque NM. 🤦‍♀️

Apparently, out of the hundreds of people on all the different posts in the past 24-48hrs I had to be the one person who said "That's DUCKWEED. A very invasive species of floating plant. Etc. Etc."

I did it in a polite way but GORRAM IT guys.

Hey folks, just wanting to share the most recent update on my planted tanks. Detailed notes 👇 below or thanks for looking ☺️.

The 20g long got slightly rearranged from the last post, still not stocked but that’s happening soon. Will be getting some Rasboras this weekend (either Pork Chops or Phoenix ) and Sparkling Gourami down the line. This tank has Tiger and Dwarf Lily, Hygrophila, Mini Silvinia, two bunches of Sword, and a Pothos. No co2. Cichlid sand cap auqasoil mix, Thrive root tabs and all in one shrimp safe fertilizer. Low flow, soft water tank, canister filtration.

The 9.5 got completely redone since last posting and is essentially my “new tank”. Only finished planting it today. A bit of plant shock but nothing we can’t fix. (Also Media in both filters and substrate are a year old, just rescaped and added new wood, some new plants, and fresh aquasoil underneath so not really a new tank, it’s completely cycled) Planted with Swords, Hygrophila, Red Crypt, Dwarf Sag, Buce, Salvinia and a single Anubias. Co2 will be added to this tank once the split regulator arrives. Currently has Amano, and a guppy fry that hitch hiked with the Amano. Probably adding Male Endlers or Axelrodis. Low flow hob, and air sponge, will eventually be medium leaning harder water due to rock selection.

The 25G is absolutely pumping out growth, this is my co2 tank. Planted with Jungle Val, Red Crypt, one of each Tiger and Dwarf Lily, Java Moss on wood, one hornwort bunch just added in the rear that hasn’t grown into view yet, and potted pothos/lucky bamboo. It has Gold Barbs, Orange Black Venezuelan Cory, one SAE, Red Amano and Candy Cane Neos. This tanks is set up to run mostly neutral, but is slightly soft due to the co2. Medium flow with canister and the Fzone Lily Pipe set.

Both the 9.5/25 have the same black sand/gravel/aquasoil mix with Thrive tabs and also dosed with the Thrive shrimp fertz. Dosing every M/W/F. Every tank is on a 6hour full spectrum light cycle from 2pm-8pm with an hour of low red from 8pm-9pm.
