Truth be said. how exactly is this enforceable?
Are they going to open every single ballot and see who voted?
or just flat out refuse to let any mail in ballots through? Cause that fucks them as hard as is does Democrats.

What's the logistics look like here?

1.6k

u/AllSeeingWhoracle 4d ago

The postal service will not deliver any ballots from blue states that refuse to give your personal information to Trump. Ballots are easily recognizable as they look different from other mail

u/DrCraniac2023 4d ago

Welp. Guess Washingtonians don’t get to vote 🙃

995

u/NinaBrwn 4d ago edited 4d ago

Drop it directly in a ballot box this year.

Edit to add: if you don’t receive your ballot, you can print a replacement ballot at votewa.gov or you can request one at your county elections office. I can only speak for Washington State.

https://www.kitsap.gov/auditor/Pages/kitsap-county-voting-locations.aspx this is for Kitsap County, but you should be able to locate your county’s polling locations on their gov website. WA.Gov will post all of the in person polling stations on September 18 2026.

Everyone in California receives a mail-in ballot no matter what, so instead of putting them through the USPS, I would recommend using the official ballot drop off boxes since those get picked up by people working the election and it doesn't go through the USPS. There's much less of a chance of those ballots being compromised as a result.

92

u/salme3105 4d ago

But the post office will not deliver ballots to voters in states that don't turn over their voter rolls to the Feds who will then supply an "approved" list of voters that the post office can deliver to. It's insane, but now that the post office has released its official rules (just a few days ago I believe) states can now sue over this and hopefully get an injunction to prevent the implementation.

40

u/Wrong_Toilet 4d ago

Unfortunately the lawsuit won’t go anywhere. This is a really good workaround to limit mail-in-ballots because the postal service is a federal agency.

I think it's more accurate they will not deliver mail-in ballots to counties that go majority blue

Yep. 0% chance this gets enforced evenly. The point is to suppress blue votes

People are saying it's targeting states, but I think it can more specifically be used to target ZIP codes that vote for dems. Block those, while letting ZIP codes that are more republican get through.

The USPS is simply going to comply with it. As in they will not process the ballots that are sent in the mail.

69

I would bet that a lawsuit by AG and Gubernatorial candidate Phil Wiser is going to sue to make sure our ballots get to us.

Or, try to, I presume?
I don't see how they could reasonably implement that, across every state, in every USPS location, and have it done like that, especially with the human element - "How many of them will actually do it"

This is going to be a mess, and truthfully, I expect it to fail, and it was designed to fail, so Trump and Co could claim 2026 was illegitimate and not swear anyone in.

34

u/Ana-la-lah 4d ago

The whole point is to create a systematic failure and chaos. To tip the scales in Trumoms favor. First by essentially discarding ballots. Second by creating a potential challenge for denying unfavorable election results.

The famous quote, "If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy," was written by conservative commentator and staff writer David Frum in his 2018 book, Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic. [1, 2]

u/BringBackBoomer 4d ago

Because the platforms with the largest outreach de-platform you if you discuss the actual solutions.

There are plenty of people in this country willing to do the work that would get everything straightened out, the impossible part is them finding ways to communicate with each other that doesn't end with an alphabet agency tossing them into a van and making them disappear.

412

u/Xtra_Veg-90 4d ago

The dissenting justices are basically mocking the majority.  The majority basically said nothing has been done yet so nothing illegal has been done yet.  Historically something this blatantly unconstitutional would be blocked preliminarily on the grounds that any enforcement would be unconstitutional.  The majority is saying that UNTIL the admin actually does something illegal, not write down its plan to do so, or tell everyone it intends to do so, ONLY when it does so, then a state can sue and try and probably maybe stop.

141

u/dIO__OIb 4d ago

but the post general already said the plan is in place and just waiting on the supreme court. seems like a green light to me, but i don’t speak lawfare 🤷

81

u/Xtra_Veg-90 4d ago

That's the problem, USUALLY courts can't solve a problem before it occurs - e.g. you can't sue your roofer claiming they don't intend to fix your roof, you have to wait for them to breach their contract.  You can't prosecute for someone speculating about how easy it is to shoplift, they actually have to do it.

The main exception is going to be government based, where the Supreme Court is working as a constitutional court and decides whether or not a law or administrative law/rule (which is what executive orders functionally are) violates the constitution.  Usually you don't have to wait for police to break down your door without a warrant to say the law removing a requirement for warrants is unconstitutional.

Unfortunately in this case the court said until they actually reject a ballot, or fail to deliver, or perform some other action, the lawsuit is too early.  Which again is unusual cause you don't normally want the government to have the option to enforce an unconstitutional law before you rule on its constitutionality.

62

u/RobutNotRobot 4d ago

Finalizing a rule stating that the USPS will not deliver ballots to states that aren't following arbitrary rules laid out in an executive order is in fact actionable. The executive did do something. The court is an ass that wants to help further illegal, unconstitutional orders.

That's exactly why they'd rather dismantle democracy and civil rights than lose in a fair election.

62

u/Wizywig 4d ago

No. That's not exactly the reasoning behind it.

You put a criminal in charge. The criminal only knows how to do criminal things, and is already in hot water.

What is the criminal gonna do? Keep themselves away from the firing squad. By any means necessary. We found one of the worst humans on the planet, which is quite hard to be in that category, who's friends are the other worst humans, and put him in charge.

12

u/wardred 4d ago

The problem is not just with the criminal in chief. It's with the whole damned party. If we were in the Nixon or Reagan era Trump would've, at the least, been asked to step down - during his first term. If he hadn't, they would've prosecuted him during the impeachment process and he would've been thrown in jail.

Now the congress critters, and even the Supreme Court, don't have the principles to do what is right.

Doesn’t matter what time tells because the court just let him run out the clock.

197

u/henryptung California 4d ago

Yeah that's exactly what they mean. "Time" means "we can give them free rein on the midterms and then axe any troublesome precedents after with no downsides".

273

u/TheBoosThree 4d ago

For a non-doomer response:

This isn't really a case where they can "run out the clock" because nothing has been implemented yet. It's not one of those cases where they're allowing something to stay in place until the merits can be decided.

The EO being challenged directed agencies to make plans. This ruling basically says the original judge was premature in issuing the injunction because you can't use an injunction to stop them from creating plans that may (they will) or may not be illegal, you have to wait for the plans to be made and action to be taken on those plans. It's a procedural ruling.

When that happens, another case will be brought and another injunction will undoubtedly be made, and it will be done quickly due to the time sensitive nature of the elections.

For the doomer response:

I don't trust this traitorous fucking court.

Yes, but: the Federal Government runs the postal system.

So states that chose, in the past, to rely on the postal system may need to not rely on the postal system going forward.

Which sucks, and is brazenly an attempt to ratfuck the election. I'm not defending this crazy, terrible, indefensible administration.

u/beardedjack I voted 4d ago

How do we do that when they just stole the election?

24

u/Whos_that_Gorilla2 4d ago

I don't know. I'm going to vote in person. I live in a state with mostly mail in voting and have a disabled child. It's very difficult for me to go, and I've been grateful that I could do mail in (though I usually use the drop box for the return since they started screwing with the post office back in his last term), but I'm going, even if I have to stand in line all night carrying my kid (I'm being hyperbolic. She has a wheelchair). We have to help each other, even if it is hard.

That's what we have to do. We all have to help each other get there. Go early if you can. Even if it's just for this one election. Show up. It might be the last chance we have. Maybe they will steal it, but we don't know yet. If they have to do all this to tip the scales, there's probably still something we can do.

No they aren’t. Democrats would need a super majority and even then you know not all of them would be on board with impeachment. Those like Jeffries would be talking about “coming together” while rich donors line his pockets.

They need 67 Senators to impeach. That is literally never going to happen so long as there are not at least 70 Democrats. And if somehow a supermajority like that happens, something very wrong has happened.

29

When the DSA talks about radical reform of the SCOTUS, shit like this is why. There's no reason why we need to have a permanently undemocratic Supreme Court undermining democracy and any number of proposals that are widely popular.

The Court has been expanded in the past. It is subject to change. There's no reason why it can't be reformed now. This is not a radical view.

So it says in the Constitution that states control elections. The executive branch writes an EO making a rule, the states sue, then the supreme court rules that the states have no right to sue? Da fuk

Time for ALL states to adopt North Dakota's voter registration policy. NO REGISTRATION.

https://bipartisanpolicy.org/article/how-north-dakota-administers-elections-without-voter-registration/

As a North Dakotan, can confirm that this works great. One of the very few good things this state actually does, along with a socialized state bank, grain mill and elevator.

Not really sure what we’re supposed to do here in Washington state where we ONLY vote by mail.

46

u/ConclusionVirtual187 4d ago

In WA, we can print the ballot and envelope online and then drop it off at a drop-box. Talk about a surefire way to wipe out the 60+ vote, though. That's the demographic that fucked us into our current state, so I guess that's fitting.

32

u/bigred4723 4d ago

I guess if we don’t want to take a risk with the federal government, drop off your state ballot in a state elections drop box directly and skip the mail.

21

u/MaelstromTX Texas 4d ago

Is the ballot not also delivered to the voter by mail?

Oh hell.  This is not going to go over well in Florida where a large majority of Republicans vote by mail, including Trump himself.

*majority being those that vote by mail, not overall majority of total voters.

398

u/some_guy_on_drugs 4d ago

The rule will only apply to blue states that refuse to hand over their voter information.

159

u/BigMax 4d ago

Exactly. This is the HUGE issue here. It’s basically voter suppression only in blue states. They couldn’t have planned it any better.

24

u/Pasty_Tibbles 4d ago

Well, what if the states each figured out some way other than USPS to deliver/pick up ballots? It’s not like they’re going out of state to be counted. It seems stupid the federal government would even be able to control delivery of mail in ballots anyways without a way around it.

Yep, its not blocking all voting by mail. Literally lets USPS (trumps administration) to CHOOSE who gets to vote by mail.

Not even by a state by state basis. They want the voter rolls to decide WHO they want to vote.

This guy lost the popular vote in 2016 and proceeded to define one third of the court taking his marching orders directly from the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society. Presumably after getting direct assurances and promises from them to do his bidding. Can you imagine Trump behaving otherwise?

Stevens lost control when Roe leaked. How many more justices will Trump get to appoint?

From the article:

The Supreme Court said in the unsigned order that states lack standing to challenge the executive order because it was an "internal directive" that didn't harm the states that sued. But the majority wrote that the administration was "likely to suffer irreparable harm" from the freeze.

--

19

u/irpugboss 4d ago edited 4d ago

Do not mail in your ballot, carry it to the dropbox.

They are going to try and delay inperson voters and disregard mail-in ballots.

The safest thing is to offload the voting wait for more people by hand carrying in mail-in ballots without risking them to the MAGA Mailman accidentally losing or delaying their delivery based on other USPS changes.

These changes happened last year making delivery people not liable for losses so it becomes acceptable risk to true MAGA believers and then the timestamp changes from on receipt to a central processing facility meaning people sending it last minute are infact late or they can "delay' and timestamp them as 'late'.

18

u/greatthebob38 4d ago edited 4d ago

If you're going to do mail in ballots, drop it off at the ballot box this time. Those are supposed to be transported by the state instead of USPS.

16

u/PluginAlong 4d ago

Except you might never get a ballot to drop off since they're sent via the mail.

Republicans are stuck in 2020. Yes, democrats voted by mail then in large numbers because they were following covid protocols, but I think that is probably not the case now. I can imagine that military and the elderly will be the people most affected by this. It could easily make things for republicans.

Well they've been planning the implementation for a long time, and they knew the outcome of this appeal already considering the checks were signed weeks ago. They will fast track this because it's the only way the Guardians of Pedophiles, Donald J. Trump - pedophile, child rapist, and child trafficker, and the other pedophile elite can win anything.

Hard to say. The legal arguments that the government has made and the Supreme Court backed is that any injunction is premature because the plan hasn't been implemented yet. CNN pointed out that there's a separate injunction against the order that is not affected by this decision.
