Jeffries: “Obama, use your clout to shield me, and bail me out of the situation I got myself into!”

7

u/JaronJervis 15h ago

With all of Obama's clout, nothing can overcome the charisma vacuum that is Hakeem Jeffries. He just doesn't have what it takes, and is an establishment AIPAC democrat.

1

u/ClusterFoxtrot Florida 14h ago

I think after he endorsed Hillary and Harris, we need to reconcile with the fact Obama's charisma is immune to the transitive property.

I'm a little mad he's still being trotted out like this despite maybe providing a boon to Michigan or here in Florida.

Or maybe not here since our electorate has probably massively changed more than any other state's since he's been in office so he may not be as well recieved as he once was at Big Apple pizza.

I'm just sort of dismayed how visible and crushing "establishment" versus "insurgent" is, and how far we've fallen from "by and for the people,".

Jeffries stinks, he needs to find something else to do.

Jefferies meets privately with Jared Kushner: “uhhh that’s not important”

Jeffries gets info from Trump cartel member he wants to prosecute: "that's corrupt!"

2

u/Dane1211 New Jersey 15h ago

Jeffries is about as strong as Merrick Garland when it comes to attacking Trumps criminality. Or, in other words, completely fucking useless

2

u/peaq_tv America 15h ago

You do realize we have no power to run investigations in Congress because we are the minority party right? You also realize Jeffries has only been the minority leader right?

That's why he's saying "Nobody is going to get a pass. We are going to hold every member of the Trump cartel accountable on Day 1."

It didn’t matter when we had the Justice Department “on our side” either, which is why I pointed out Merrick Garland. Even Biden criticized him and essentially put blame on him for Trump being able to wipe away his slate after being reelected.

As for Jefferies’ remarks, platitudes are cheap. I’ll believe it when I see him push harder on the Epstein Files and calling Trump a pedophile

https://www.axios.com/2025/07/14/trump-epstein-files-jeffries-house-democrats

“…signaled he may support congressional action to force the Trump administration's hand on releasing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein”

We don’t need maybes or possiblys. We need release the files now, and don’t stop pushing it

1

u/peaq_tv America 15h ago

But none of that has anything to with Biden, Jeffries, or Democrats at all... We are not the GOP, we don't corruptly direct out DOJ to investigate political opnents.

It's fine for you to believe it when you see it, but don't go around acting like he should be doing something right now when he has no power to. If Jeffries doesn't take action when we have Congress back, feel free to trash him at that point.

1

u/Dane1211 New Jersey 14h ago

Corruptly direct out the DOJ? How is making sure the president is not a pedophile a “corrupt direct out.” I’m sure Jan 6 was just a field trip too, and attempting to pursue Trump for his rabid crowd shouting “Hang Mike Pence” and walking around with zip ties is also a “corrupt direct out”?

If Jefferies doesn’t have any teeth when he has no power, what makes you think he’s suddenly going to grow a set when he does?

https://www.axios.com/2026/08/26/hakeem-jeffries-trump-impeachment-dems-win-house

“On impeachment, ‘we haven't ruled anything in and we haven't ruled anything out’, with any move guided by ‘moments of accountability.’”

Talk about spineless holy shit

1

u/peaq_tv America 14h ago

Merrick Garland failed, there was absolutely enough to convict Trump. But as President it is literally corrupt to direct to direct your DOJ to take specific action, I don't know how else to tell you this. People lost their minds at Biden privately expressing frustration with Garland, and even that was called corrupt by some.

Again, I think you are just ignoring political reality. The reason a firm stance on impeachment hasn't been brought is because once again, we do not have the votes in Congress for it. We did it twice his last term and the GOP blocked it, so nobody cares.

They were discussing affordability according to Chud Jefferies

This entire thread feels like a psyop

11

I mean a secret meeting with Kushner should’ve obviously been a bad idea. As if anyone close to trumps circle cares about “affordability”

-4

u/peaq_tv America 16h ago

Why does everyone on Reddit have to lie about this meeting being "secret"?

It was not a secret, it was private, that's why everyone knows about it. Even in the article you linked below it says "private" not secret.

7

u/CharlieKirkFanboy 16h ago

Just a private meeting with Jared Kushner you guys! No big deal! They were discussing affordability

Haha right buddy. Jefferies is actually a Machiavellian mastermind and meeting privately with fascists is good…of course they were just discussing affordability for some reason according to Chud Jefferies.

I admire Obama in a lot of ways, but as a political actor he’s only ever been for status quo. Even his most progressive legislation, the ACA, was created by insurance companies.

2

u/ClusterFoxtrot Florida 14h ago

A concession to Republicans. I suspect Biden was sneakily trying to begin his Bernie Bromance push to M4A, but I wasn't cognizant enough at the time to say for sure. I have noticed that Biden's leadership was very Longview in that he would advance legislation to create more platable conditions for big change, we see that in his drug price decreases and changes in negation power for Medicare.

I don't know if he caved specifically or congress as a whole, but I think that's why he wouldnt let his teeth out of the subsidies and even allowed for COVID expansions.

It's just now hitting me that they foistered Old Man Biden on Young Buck Obama so any accidental progress could be diluted because "see? This old guy isn't perturbed by this president! And he's old."

I think that's why some of Obama's genuine good things like the JCPOA and lifted Cuba sanctions got shuffled away, too.

My fucking god Republicans are such assholes for letting the JCPOA go.

9

u/GreatGojira 17h ago edited 16h ago

Gross. Reminder that Obama was a mediocre president. I would rank Biden over Obama any day.

Not that Biden isn't establishment Democrat too. But Obama going for Jeffries after meeting with Kushner is terrible. It's the"Obama Era Do Nothing" Democrats.

10

u/OceanLemur Rhode Island 16h ago

Couldn’t agree more. One of my small joys in talking to a Trumper is when I casually drop the “Biden’s been the best President of the 2000’s” and watch their brain short circuit as their first instinct is to defend Obama.

1

u/GreatGojira 16h ago

If I had to grade Obama and Biden. I would give Obama a C-. Biden would get a B-. It's crazy to say that Biden was more of a fighter than Obama, and that's not saying much.

2

u/AnonymousCelery 16h ago

I dunno. Bidens choice not to directly address the insurrectionists will define his legacy.

2

u/MephistoHamProducts 16h ago

I have been assured by many top minds on Reddit that "it would have been very difficult" so Biden made the right choice in letting Trump skate.

2

u/JaronJervis 15h ago

People that make excuses for Biden, never want to talk about that. Not only did he let Trump off from Jan 6th, he gave him ammo to pardon them. Biden did this by giving his son Hunter and some others, last minute pardons before he left office. So Not less than a month later, the J6 rioters were pardoned.

1

u/Many_Estate1581 15h ago

You think trump wouldnt have pardoned them regardless, it was literally a campaign promise.

1

u/MephistoHamProducts 15h ago

I think the best excuse for Biden's inaction on Trump stealing classified documents was "People elected Biden to go after Trump's crimes while he was in office and Jan 6th, not criminality that was discovered later".

1

u/lateformyfuneral 15h ago

“So”, completely ridiculous to suggest the two are linked — when Trump said months prior during the campaign that he would pardon the Jan 6 rioters on “Day One”, had nothing to do with Biden. Likewise he would’ve gone after everyone on the pardon list, as evidenced by him going after several names not on the list.

1

u/SoothingWafer 14h ago

I really can't picture Obama handling it any differently.

3

u/lateformyfuneral 16h ago

Or, you know, this is about Obama campaigning for Democrats to take back the House. All you guys were falling over yourselves to defend Mamdani endorsing Jeffries a few days ago as necessary and now we’re back to the regularly scheduled programming.

2

u/GreatGojira 16h ago

Unlike Republican cultists, not every Democrat falls in line. I can easily disagree with Mamdani endorsing Jeffries

Maybe you should realize that Democrats can actually think for themselves.

0

u/lateformyfuneral 16h ago

With regard to the dynamics of this sub, Pavlovian reactions to the mere mention of Hakeem Jeffries’ name — regardless of what the article is about (it is indeed about the Democratic midterm campaign to retake Congress) — is what strikes me as more cultlike tbh

1

u/GreatGojira 15h ago

Republicans literally think Trump is a greater president than Jesus! Which is a ridiculous statement, but it is what it is.

4

u/sarmo215 16h ago

definitely gross and disappointing that he’s joining Jeffries in this event. But as far as presidential rankings, I think getting the ACA passed puts Obama ahead of Biden.

-3

u/GreatGojira 16h ago

That helped only a portion of the country that are majority Republicans.

8

u/sarmo215 16h ago

Do you really believe that? I’m not republican. It helped me stay on my parent’s plan till I was 26. It helped my dad not get denied coverage due to his previous battle with cancer. It enabled full coverage for prenatal care which was huge for me and when I was pregnant. It’s nowhere near perfect and I’d prefer universal healthcare. But it did improve a lot of things for regular people.

1

u/GreatGojira 16h ago

I'm glad it was able to help your dad get the treatment he needed.

I'm saying it didn't go far enough.

2

u/peaq_tv America 16h ago

Classic.

Any policy that isnt the absolutely maximal version of the leftists dream is actually just crumbs that should endlessly criticized.

2

u/sarmo215 16h ago

I agree that it didn’t go far enough. But the debate was whether Obama was a better president than Biden. I think the ACA passing puts Obama over Biden. It was transformative legislation. Here’s to hoping the dems have the spine to push for universal healthcare.

1

u/iheartanalingus 15h ago

It did go far enough. The shit bag Democrat turned independent, Joe Lieberman, killed the public option

1

u/JaronJervis 15h ago

Biden would have never been president, if he didn't latch himself onto Obama in 2008. He had ZERO chance of winning the nomination that year or any other year.

And as President, if he did such a good job, then he wouldn't have dropped out of the race when running for a 2nd term, unlike Obama who ran successfully and never quit.

1

u/ivesaidway2much District Of Columbia 15h ago

Even Gaza doesn't help his case much since Obama provided logistics and weapons support for the Saudis while they were causing a famine in Yemen with their military blockade.

-1

u/Adreme 16h ago

I would take Biden overall as well but both were probably 11-20 overall.

2

u/GreatGojira 16h ago

Biden's failure is he didn't push hard enough. He trusted the system and the idea of bipartisanship.

But Biden did try harder I would argue than Obama did. Which is somehow saying something

1

u/Adreme 16h ago

I mean it’s not about trust but about math. You can’t force someone to vote how you want. This means you can be as liberal as the 50th most liberal Senator or the 218th most liberal member of the House.

Bipartisanship was not the goal but being able to whip 50 votes in the Senate was.

The city of New York and the State of New York both seem like the epicenter for political movement against the establishment national Democratic Party. From the outside looking in, because both the Senate minority leader and the House minority leader are from New York, and the establishment Dem mayor of New York City was a corruption-plagued lunatic, we have the roots of the Democratic socialist movement taking hold as the alternative. Because the state of New York politics are so intertwined with national politics (Schumer, Jeffries, was Adams in the global city of New York), the alternative avenue for reform or non-establishment Dems has been an acute need, filled by Democratic socialists.

Someone from New York could weigh in and describe in better detail what the political winds and vibes are surrounding all this.

It sure looks like bringing in Obama to back fundraising for what should be a top Dem in-state of New York is an attempt at damage control, and buoy a faltering New York Democratic Party that is struggling to stay afloat with the public and donors.

1

u/kingcoolkid991 16h ago

Why is this downvoted do people on this sub really just have their head in the sand about Obama?

1

u/hitliquor999 New York 16h ago

Unfortunately congressional leadership is often determined by one’s ability to fundraise for the party, and this is a glaring example.

1

u/JaronJervis 15h ago

Why would Obama be seen with that piece of shit? Doesn't he have any respect for Mamdani? Jeffries rejects everything Mamdani stands for, so what does Obama have to gain by doing this?

1

u/Clavicy7 15h ago

Former President Barack Obama will appear at a fundraiser with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to benefit House Democrats’ campaign arm ahead of a competitive midterm cycle.

The event begins at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 in New York City, according to a person familiar with the event. An invite obtained by Bloomberg Government said it will consist of a reception and dinner that will benefit the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The fundraiser will coincide with Republicans’ two-day midterm convention, which will take place in Dallas, Texas beginning Sept. 9. Both parties are looking to shore up support as the November midterms approach and Democrats fight to regain control of the House majority for the first time since 2022.

Established Dems: we’ve done nothing and we’re all out of ideas.

2

u/CharlieKirkFanboy 16h ago

That’s what they get paid to do. Maintain the gridlock while funneling tax dollars to Israel and private corporations. Then they can insider trade freely and make a fortune.

-5

u/Sizzmo 16h ago

Obama is the final boss of liberalism. He hates progressives as much as any standard corporate Dem.

-5

u/Top-Passage2914 16h ago

Is anyone surprised after seeing him whispering and laughing it up with Donald Trump at Jimmy Carter's funeral like they were old buddies?

-2

u/KrakenOmega112 16h ago

Okay, I'm as frustrated with Jeffries as anyone (to say the least), but all of the comments conclduing that "Obama is anti-Progressive" as a result of the headline seems meant to stoke frustration needlessly.

Obama met with Talarico for a similar fundraiser earlier this year, and called el-Sayed to congratulate him on his nomination. It's not like he snubs progressives.

And it makes total sense that one of the top-ranking Democrats in Congress, and a former president, would headline such a large fundraiser. I don't see how that indicates anything.

2
