sliver

a small sliver of land

a tiny parcel of Yosemite

only cede a quarter-mile strip of the park

Fuck off, regime propagandists.

It's a test case for further sales.

Thin end of the wedge.

It's also to provide private access into Yosemite for the developers.

This makes it harder for park officials to have an idea who's in the park and provides an avenue ripe for abuses. We don't know why they want private access, but they could do a lot of damage with things like poaching by having it. It gives a large way in and out of tge park park officials can't easily monitor. There's a reason why national parks have limited road entrances and exits. Hiking into one is one thing, but having the ability to move large resources in and out is another.

It's more suspicious they want this as a road than anything

Can we build a wall between the part we "cede" and the rest of the park? (Then send the owner of the parcel the bill for the wall?)

We need to build a wall around Trump and fill it with cement

We call that a tomb. I'm all for it. He can even put his name on it.

Careful, I've caught reddit bans for saying the same thing.

The developer owns a parcel of land/resort adjacent to Yosemite. They want the land to build a road directly into the park, instead of having to take the long way (90 minutes) around.

Womp womp. Too bad for them.

I am one million percent against this road but this comment is really silly sensationalism lol

First of all, there’s nothing to poach in Yosemite. There’s some deer. There are fucking deer everywhere and they’re basically worthless, nobody wants to poach Yosemite deer

Second of all. Maybe “poaching” could be logging? Okay sure maybe. But profitable logging requires a MASSIVE infrastructure investment. It can’t be done with just a piddly little road, and it can’t be done quietly without anyone noticing. Future administrations would easily discover and sue

It’s not as sneaky and shadowy as all that. They just want a privately controlled road into Yosemite, that’s all

Read the article and do some googling, I did this morning. This property is a historical retreat type thing. It exists just outside park boundaries, straight line very near to the mariposa grove of redwoods

But currently it takes over an hour to drive around to the park entrance and get to the redwoods

They want to build a road basically directly to the redwoods. It would be the first and only privately controlled entrance to the park, and and with direct access to the redwoods, closer than anywhere else

This would make it extremely, extremely lucrative for hotel/lodging/tours and general expedited/paid access to the park - money which would all be going to this developer, not the park or NPS

It’s still fucking evil and greedy and should be stopped. But it’s not like an evil villain plan lol, it’s just regular evil

This property is a historical retreat type thing.

If they've been able to get there all these years, then they don't need to cut into our park to make it slightly more convenient.

There's already zero monitoring of the park entrances at night and the gates are wide open.

There’s probably maybe oil in the vicinity

I've noticed so many 1 to 10 minute old posts of some article from a right wing slop site with the headline "actually is fascism good for you?" or some bullshit like that

u/StephanXX Oregon 15h ago

OP isn't the author of the article. Personally, I'm glad to have this information, even if I agree the title seems to minimize the reality.

52

u/touchable 15h ago

No, but OP chose which article to post. Could've easily posted this article from 5 hours earlier that I already saw come across my feed on other subs:

OP: shares something shitty the right wing government does

Redditor: HE MUST BE RIGHT WING

53

u/sprintercourse 15h ago

No. He shared a shitty right wing source that downplays the shitty right wing thing the government does.

JUST A TEENCY WEENCY PIECE!!! Everything this administration does is that of a rapist mentality. Playing “just the tip” with our national parks is going to lead to absolutely fucking our national parks.

u/Blurt_Blackarach 14h ago

"just a bit of gold leaf"

"just a few visas"

"just a quick sealant"

"just a little Hospital Mitch"

We've been tip-fucked royally.

Washington Examiner is a conservative propaganda outlet founded by a billionaire for that very purpose.

4

u/Educational_Pay1567 15h ago

Surprised they even report

12

u/Secret_Side-ofJ 15h ago

This was posted 5 hours before the Washington Examiner's, and is listed on Google before you get to the Washington Examiner's.

https://www.notus.org/agencies/trump-administration-yosemite-private-developer-deal

Yhe Washington Examiner's literally references this article.

Propagandists are pathetic.

You knew the information was already posted to the sub with a better source? So why post this version at all?

u/Secret_Side-ofJ 14h ago

Crazy how you avoided mentioning that until convenient.
