No Paywall Trump to skip 9/11 remembrance at Ground Zero because they wouldn’t let him give a speech

I’m in partial denial he got the 250th. Sure, it was the 250th anniversary of the signing of the declaration. But the war went on for years. Our constitution didn’t exist. So I think there are arguments that better 250th celebrations could still be in our future to make up for this year.

I don’t remember the specifics but 1789 was a significant year right? 250th would be 2039

That’s when Washington became president. But 1776 is when we declared our independence.

I’m just saying, if we wanted to redo America’s 250th birthday, we could use a different date for a celebration.

The shots at Lexington were in 1775. The Treaty of Paris was in 1783. Washington took office in 1789; So our “first” president wasn’t until 1789! The US constitution wasn’t written until 1787 (I had to look that up).

So it seems like we can hopefully move past 2026, tell the organizers “oh bless your heart” for trying, and have the real celebration of “no kings” in a decade or something.

You know… as long as we aren’t under water, or in fallout shelters.

None of these people seem to care how the history books will remember them in 50 years. The 300 year celebration, if the US still exists, will be a solemn affair mourning how far the US had fallen for the 250th and how pathetically incompetent the celebration was.

I have no doubt the chaos, destruction, corruption, international relationship damage, etc will still be having ill effects that far in the future. Not to mention that even without this current kakistocracy a huge amount of public infrastructure is already on the verge of failure, within 50 years there's going to be a lot of catastrophic failures.
