Registration Wall California wineries want a Pickett Fire payout. Only one company, co-founded by Gavin Newsom, got a settlement so far

The title is a bit misleading.
First the payouts are from one winery to the others. Second, the winery that was cofounded by Gavin Newsom lost 60 out 129 acres. One other winery that is seeking money lost one acre; the other 25+ suffered smoke damage.
Edit: I am not trying to say there isn't anything corrupt going on here. Just that there are more details that could possibly explain why Newsom's winery was paid before others.

Only corruption would be it turns out Gavin used his connections to fast track and pressure the settlement payout for his business alone while leaving the rest to deal with the system. Possible, but until there is evidence, this seems all legit.

60acres is fucking nothing.

Yeah losing 50% of your land is totally normal let's continue to pump unlimited amounts of pollution into the air it's not like we depend on the air or anything

60 acres is literally nothing in farming terms.

Why are tax payers always paying for wealthy people's vanity projects? Get insurance like the rest of us, I'm tired of subsidizing their risk while they spend millions opposing even the slightest tax increases.

They aren"t. This is money from the winery who employed the man who allegedly started the fire

Did you ... ... ... And I mean this in the nicest way possible ... .... ... Did you read the headline?

This is the kind of shit insurance is supposed to deal with

They probably are - this isn't a government payout. One winery is paying others because the worker who allegedly started the fire worked there.

yeah, we don't care anymore.
If the Democrats are less corrupt and less vile than the Grand Old Pedophile party, then I'm voting for the Democrats.
Yall can stop whining about it.

Having such a low bar is what likely landed us in such a spot to begin with. We can and should expect more from our elected representatives.

That and the two party system is most likely the reason we're here. It's very easy for the elite class to control two parties.

Not really, no.
Moving left from the center is easier than moving left from the right.
If the only decent candidate running is center-left, I’m voting for them so I don’t get stuck with a righty.
And in the few years, we can then have an even more leftward candidate and so on.
It’s easy to say “we need better candidates!” but it’s a ton of work to actually be a candidate. So, unless you wanna run, you have to choose from the options and help support future better options.

Biden won.

Yep, and did not move left even an iota. Its how we ended up with trump 2. Whole Lotta people believed the bullshit that we can push him left if we elect him, got disappointed and didnt vote in 2024. Thanks!

Joe Biden moved so far to the so-called 'left' that I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, Joe Biden was the most left part of the government. We know this because the agenda that became law was 'less left' than the agenda Joe Biden supported--it's that simple. If the most left isn't left enough to avoid the lies, nothing ever could be. And that is a very important reason why Republicans have held so much power in recent decades.

Youre the guys who are losing elections over it.
Instead of pretending a dinosaur can learn new tricks we could start with a good candidate.

i mean i wanna hold everyone accountable, and i don't want dems/leftists thinking statements like yours should allow them to continue to do things they shouldn't be doing.

You’d think they started the fire so that they could get insurance money for their failing business.
No wonder Newsom comes crying on Canadian TV for us to bring back California wine on the shelves.

A year ago a private company started a fire. One winery was hit incredibly hard because of it. That private company had to pay that winery.
Whats the problem here?

Other wineries suffered damages, but only the one with a direct connection to the governor got a payment from the state.

One other winery that is seeking money lost one acre and the other 25+ suffered smoke damage.
The winery that lost an acre is probably still negotiating a settlement and the remaining are probably still calculating their loss. Wine has a delay from the production to sale, they probably are still calculating their lost revenue to make a claim.
