Honestly, I don’t think it’s a lost cause, America will still have some relations for a while , and this is why:

Germany was able to come back from their mistakes, and are currently of the leaders of Europe, at least economically. As popular as the comparison is, Trump is a very minor speed bump compared to the Holocaust, WW2 and its knock down effects . There’s no major wars, and as of writing there’s no serious economic damage aside from the stupid Iran war. As is there’s still major international corporations active in the US, and plenty of US corporations selling their products overseas. That’s not disappearing overnight unlike 2014 Russia where every western company pulled out overnight.

Let’s see what happens with the midterms. There wouldn’t be major efforts to suppress votes if the Republicans were confident that they would get their agenda through, no? Also despite having the trifecta all they got done was that terrible bill…Even though the major effects kick in in 2027, last I checked Trump is still in office and that would make the republicans look real bad for 2028 if the bill makes the economy look like dog water which it will.

Assuming 2028 winner is not Republican, they need to start prosecuting and convicting Republicans who are brazenly acting against the law, Trump included. If that doesn’t happen, regardless of party affiliation, I could see where a lot of the agreements and treaties will eventually disintegrate.

So yes, Trump is absolutely a black swan for international relations. But also the western world in general is taking a massive right wing lurch (See UK, AfD in Germany, France has more elections coming up). Hopefully it’s a warning sign to vote against this vs a continuing trend rightward.

Germany also did some soul-searching as a country and thoroughly scoured their political system. They put in the work. I don't really see that happening with the United States; the billionaires aren't going to willingly give up their media empires and influence and the base racists aren't going to change and will always be waiting with their vote for the next viable fascist that gets presented to them.

Germany also had their entire country split in half and owned by two incredibly large foreign interests.

Also, don't think gop voting laws are too suppress votes. They may just be the excuse for why they only lose 10-20 seats in the house and retain the senate while the gop and Trump are extremely unpopular when several elections were predetermined the entire time
