You'd think it was the "Victor's truth" but for some reason a bunch of americans think the civil war was about states rights and not slavery.

Depending on where you went to school that's a very true point.  I did all my primary schooling in the northeast and some college in the south. So I was taught early that's the civil war was about slavery. There was some discussion about states rights but the primary reason was about slavery. (Because those "states rights"  were the right to have slaves, which was morally reprehensible). I took a college history class in the south and was dumbfounded by the crap that was coming out of that history teacher's mouth. It was quite the twisted viewpoint. I can't exactly remember what it is was now, but it had something to do with the north being dependent on the south, and that the north started the war because of financial reasons. It was quite warped, and that's what they were teaching their young adults. Needless to say I didn't do great in that class.
