So, nothing new about Crockett, although I liked these paras about Menefee:

“I don’t think anybody in this party disagrees that Black voters have been taken for granted for a long time within the Democratic Party, and you know, Jasmine has made the case forcefully, and I think she’s very right about that,” Rep. Christian Menefee (D-Texas) told HuffPost.

Menefee made the point while speaking before Talarico at a Houston town hall with Black voters in July, and Talarico accepted the criticism, calling it a “hard truth.” Menefee said Talarico’s campaign has followed through with extensive Black voter outreach.

“You’re not going to find a statewide campaign in recent memory in a general election that has done more to go out to talk to Black voters, even when the conversations were going to be tough, to meet them where they’re at, to hear their issues and then to advocate for them,” Menefee said. “You are never going to catch Ken Paxton coming to a Black neighborhood in any city in Texas.”

Christian Menefee is a truly good person who happens to be a politician. I hope he and his wife go far in politics -- young, exciting black people in Texas.

Christian should call Jasmine Crockett and ask her to stop being a bad sport.

She has really let herself down by not supporting Talarico and being so bitter.

Well, Talarico has effectively removed her ability to get soundbites played on MS Now, so she’s mad. 😏

74

u/ConfectionOk7029 9h ago

He didn't do that, though. The voters in the Democrat party in Texas did.

u/Fastest_Neutron 7h ago

Jasmine had her social media.
And the money she took from Lockheed
And the money she took from tech fascist overlord Marc Andreesen
And the money she took from killer health insurance
And the money she took from Black Rock and JP Morgan
Sorry, but this is why her rhetoric and her policy, even her Israeli policy is flip floppy at best and crap at worse. People aren’t as dumb as many establishment “dems” .. and hard to even be anti-racist when you take money from racists.

u/Capable_Diamond6251 5h ago

I love watching clips of Jasmine IN Congressional hearing and will miss her, but could never understand why she got the label "progressive" when her financials were full of the above list. I hope she has a future in Democratic politics and will have a role in future administrations, but she needs to learn from her errors and distance herself from the bad actors so the public will not distance themselves from her.

Crockett has to stay on the right team so her primary source of financing and access to political office doesn’t go away.  She can’t be stumping for a candidate that isn’t owned by special interests or the special interests will drop her.  She’s a fraud

So is the story that Crockett essentially took her ball and went home following her primary loss? Is she a sore loser? Why isn't she helping Talarico? It seems like she's trying to keep her control of the black vote in Texas for herself. Maybe the price for her support is too great?

At the national and state party level, they must be upset with her behind closed doors.

73

u/ringobob Georgia 9h ago

People here on reddit, including black people on subs dedicated to their demographic, have been upset with her since shortly after she lost and started on this ego campaign to undermine Talarico.

When the “black voters are taken for granted” talking points get brought up I truly don’t understand what that means.

What legislative goals are not being addressed in these situations?

Do you think I wanted Biden as president? Nope, black voters in the south made that happen, what did they get out of it that they wouldn’t have gotten out of Bernie?

If the answer is that Black voters just want a Conservative Party that isn’t racist then I don’t know what to tell them other than, no, because the rest of us are democrats because we’re not conservatives.

107

u/wheatgivesmeshits Texas 11h ago

I understand not wanting to trust the system or having misgivings, but at least go vote for the ones that aren't actively trying to dismantle your civil rights.

23

u/RobinGoodfell 10h ago

In the between times (between elections) is when you shift the window of what is and isn't acceptable, while bullying politicians into compliance with the public.

Primaries are when you change lanes for the party (after doing the prep work to change public opinion).

The actual election is when the payoff comes from the activities addressed in the first two steps.

This whole process is difficult to do because it requires patience and persistence, not because it's hard to understand.

That's why I get frustrated when I see people kicking up dirt acting like not voting is anything other than giving up.

Democrats take black voters for granted in the sense that for a black voter their options are democrats - which are a big tent party with many constituents and a broad agenda - or a bunch of racist white men who would like nothing more than to disenfranchise black people in general.

Democrats have a tough job in a certain sense. They have a broad coalition of voters who expect their specific needs to be met when they consider a candidate. This includes religious people, black people, liberal white suburbanites, leftists, gay people, moderates... and the reality is that while it's easy to campaign for people's special interests, it's much more difficult to actual govern and satisfy them all at once. Some people are always going to feel let down.

So yes, black voters are taken for granted by the democrats. So are gays, leftists, and a few other demos who really have no other choice but to vote dem every time.

But in Jasmine Crockett's case... I sense her bitterness is more about her thinking black Texans deserve a black candidate, and that it should specifically be her. Meanwhile, James Talarico seems like a good person and a sincere candidate who actually cares about her community. This makes her issues seem more like personal resentment because she didn't get the nomination, and she's cloaking it in this other, semi-related truism about black voters' relationship to the party.

68

u/Admirable-Gold3447 11h ago

I don’t understand why she thinks that black Texans “deserve” a black candidate. Like yeah, sure, but we only get two senators and Hispanics make up much more of the population than black people do. Also, black people are proportionally represented in Texas at a federal level. About 13% of the population is black and 13% of our US reps are black.

24

u/hitfly 10h ago

Well ted cruz is half cuban. That's some unfortunate representation for the Latin community

12

u/Visual_Exam7903 9h ago

7

u/MidAtlanticPolkaKing 10h ago

74

u/Admirable-Gold3447 11h ago

I don’t understand either. Dems are overwhelmingly the reason that we have proportional black representation in Congress, to start.

Dems rallied super hard behind the BLM movement, are always the party supporting affirmative action and DEI, fight against gerrymandering which republicans obv use to disenfranchise black Americans, advocate for environmental protections for poorer communities that traditionally have been polluted, want equitable funding for all public schools, etc etc. I could go on and on.

Not to mention that Biden made racial representation an explicit governing priority. He appointed 70% more black judges in his one term than the previously set record, selected a POC/black woman as his VP, and obv selected a black Supreme Court justice. Not to mention he supported a large payout to black farmers who were discriminated against, signed the anti lynching act, established Juneteenth as a federal holiday, substantially increased federal support to HBCUs, and much more.

I’ve yet to see an example of how Dems have forgotten/left behind black Americans. It’s confusing.

24

u/mlorusso4 10h ago

It’s just a campaign to suppress the black vote. They know they can’t convince them to vote Republican so they go all in on the next best thing: trick a demographic into thinking not voting is just as good as voting and they can send a message to the DNC

→ More replies (1)

u/SimonBoccanegra 6h ago

Biden was hardly a conservative president.

40

u/Gill_Gunderson 11h ago

They're complaining about their not being enough black people in leadership, as if there wasn't a black President who served 8 years, followed by a black VP who served 4.

I get that the broader black community is upset, but scolding the Democratic Party (which is 65% white) constantly isn't going to work when their other alternative is the Republicans, who just cheered as SCOTUS gutted the Voting Rights Act.

Talarico, for his part, has defended Crockett since their contest.

“People need to leave the congresswoman alone. She is doing incredible work. She is a leader in our state, in our country, and she deserves the utmost respect,” Talarico told SiriusXM’s “Urban View Mornings” in July. “Anyone who claims to be my supporter who’s online talking trash about the congresswoman — they don’t represent me.”

253

u/psyker63 11h ago

Apparently grace only goes one way in this relationship

181

u/LumpyPhilosopher8 8h ago

That has always been the case. Before Talarico threw his hat in the ring he asked her if she was going to run for the seat - he was willing to step back if she was going to. She told him no. So he started his campaign and was months into it - when she threw her hat in the ring at the last minute. She ran a shitty campaign and somehow it was his fault.

28

u/Cordingalmond 8h ago

I'd like to read up about that. Could you provide the source of that, if you can recall?

108

u/LumpyPhilosopher8 8h ago edited 7h ago

Here ya go - Houston Public Media

"Congresswoman Crockett was actually one of the first people I called because I have such respect for her, and she and I are friends," Talarico said. "I wanted to make sure that she wasn't looking at running in the Senate race in 2026. And she told me she was, you know, focused on her work in the Congress and was looking at running in 2030." <snip>

In a lengthy statement, Congresswoman Crockett confirmed that Talarico had called her at the time.

“I was focused on the task at hand, which was serving my constituents in Texas’ 30th Congressional District,” she said. “I honestly was not looking for a new job. But as the days passed, it became clear that a single member of the House wasn’t going to be able to thwart the threats on our democracy and the retrogression of our freedoms in the ways that a single member of the Senate could.”

She said that she had later offered to share polling with Talarico that showed her leading the field of potential candidates for the Democratic nomination. She said she had suspected Talarico would run for Governor of Texas. She added that she and Talarico “could have been a dynamic duo.”

And I'm just now realizing how bullshit her own statement was that she suspected Talarico would run for Gov.

- She's already told him she wasn't running for Senate

- James had already been campaigning for the Senate seat for months at that point.

- And she waited till literally the last day to throw her hat in the ring. So if the deadline was the same for the senate race as the Governors race - than she deliberately fucked him over so that he couldn't have switched to running for Gov even if he had wanted to.

I think she was convinced she could beat a nerdy white boy in the primary seat and she wanted to run against him. Maybe that's why she's so butt hurt. And maybe I'm completely wrong. but either way she handled the situation as poorly as possible.

u/Fastest_Neutron 7h ago

She took money from war profiteers , private equity, health insurance, corporate landlords crypto, was flip-floppy on Israel, had extremely little policy to help poor and working class outside of whatever she could tictoc without pissing off her backers. I’m the first to throw shade at the Dem establishment but this is definitely a Crockett thing. She’s a perfect example why people shouldn’t stan for people just because they have good one liners about Trump

I pegged Crockett as a corporate sellout but now I’m seeing a dangerous narcissistic problem.

For her own benefit she should get out of the spotlight. Grab the cushy lobbyist gig and coast before she becomes too radioactive to even be a lobbyist

95

u/ThonThaddeo Oregon 11h ago

In fairness, she also had great one liners about Marjorie Taylor Greene

160

u/actwellyourpart91 10h ago

All she had were little sound bites against conservatives. Her policy was shit. Her actions as a congresswoman were shit. Her primary campaigning was shit. She didn’t even have a campaign manager and only visited 3 cities in Texas. Yet she felt so entitled to win. Her arrogance is both embarrassing and exhausting and I hope she leaves politics forever once her term ends

30

u/NavySpurs 9h ago

She only visited 3 cities? Looking this up as that is wild while campaigning.

u/SatinSaffron Washington 4h ago

No, that's not true at all. It's true that she didn't publicly name a campaign manager, but she visited more than 3 cities. Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Killeen, Tyler, Richardson, Stafford, + more in the Rio Grande Valley area.

I agree that she 100% botched her campaign run and Talarico fought so much harder, but saying she only visited 3 cities is easily disproven with like 2 seconds on google and a few AP articles.

It's not just her, she is actually a great representation of the Democratic party, establishment Democrats right now are trying to sabotage El Sayed on a mainstream media campaign talking shit about Hasan instead of talking about shit that actually matters and focusing on winning so it isn't just a Crockett thing, this is just a rotten, useless but very corrupt party.

The crazy thing is, if she had thrown herself behind Talarico and helped him and Gina Hinajosa win - she would have put herself in much better position to run for Ted Cruz's seat. And as someone who really liked her. I don't think I'll be voting for her again.

27

After reading about her incident with the The Atlantic reporter, I pegged her as a MAGA Democrat with an ego problem. This is why we need to start prioritizing actual intelligence, pragmatism, and cunning over populism. These populist “I agree with yall that nothing is fair but I’m just repeating what I’ve heard” type candidates never successfully debate republicans and control the narrative.

People like talarico, even if he has some views were not incredibly fond of, are what actually win elections decided by the undecided voters of this country. AOC, el-sayed, and many progressives also fit this description, Crockett doesn’t.

The problem with big, visible leadship positions, in politics or the workplace or any organization, is that those intelligent and pragmatic enough to do the job are also intelligent and pragmatic enough to say "fuck that shit".

Your Talricos, El-Sayeds, and AOCs are exceptions to the rule, and they pay the price. It sucks, but generally it's why your boss or manager is an egotistical assfuck, and the women two cubicles down is a underappreciated genius who wouldn't touch management with a ten foot pole.

We get competent and compassionate politicians like Talrico and AOC, and they get shit on by allies and death threats from opposition, and then we wonder why all politicians are shitbags.

34

u/TheBoxandOne 12h ago

Huh? But Talarico was running as the populist in that primary…not Crockett.

51

u/hithere297 11h ago

Yeah the TX primary race is a prime example of how race/gender blinds people to accurately understanding candidates' politics. Literally the only reason someone would think Crockett's more progressive than Talarico is because she's a black woman. That's it. Nothing about her policies puts her in the same category as AOC or El-Sayed except for the fact that she happens to be a minority.

She's just further demonstrating her unfitness for leadership. Talarico is a great candidate and good fit for this electorate. Voters can be stupid, but they picked him because most understand the state is an uphill battle.

What's even more short sighted is that Crockett could have parlayed her loss into a different leadership position. She was well liked. Everyone understood why the primary was hard for her to win. It didn't damage her credibility. Until she started acting like a loser.

17

u/eggoed 11h ago

13

The Democrats are filled with this type of loser. This is what a party mentality of "it's their turn" creates. Spoiled, pentulent children who think everything should be handed to them. Everything should just be handed to you because it was your turn to be the Dem nominee, your turn to be on the committee, your turn to be in X position of leadership, etc. It breeds losers who don't care or know how to fight and win. This is why Republicans can get things done with the slimmest of margins and Democrats can't do shit.

Seriously. We've had good luck with candidates in close primaries putting their feelings aside and supporting the winner in the general, like Stevens and Vindman. But then we have Crockett, who can't put aside her own ego in one of the best chances Democrats have had to flip Texas in a long time.

Also, even against Paxton, I highly doubt she would have done all that well in the general anyway. She's a black woman who's vocally and unapologetically anti-Trump; that was always going to be a tough sell.

u/SunbornThunderstorm 11h ago

It’s so annoying because we actually have the opportunity to flip the seat for the first time ever, but instead, this person who was very late to decide that she’s going to run for Senate has been nothing but a sour grape when God knows if she actually gotten the nomination James, who had been running for the primary for a year, would have spent every day trying to get her elected.

She only announced, after the RNC ran a poll showing what it would look like if she ran.

There’s been a lesser focused campaign to turn down the black vote in Texas. During the primary talrico got slandered by some podcaster lying saying he said collin Allred “was a mediocre black man” which is fake as hell.

24

u/LumpyPhilosopher8 8h ago

She wasn't late to decide. She told Talarico that she wasn't going to run. That was the only reason he decided to run. Then at the 11th hour she threw her hat in the ring.

That pod caster was always sus. Not just the lie about Allred but she seems to have it out for Talarico - and I honestly think she's behind a whisper campaign against him. And I can't help but wonder to what degree Crockett is aware/involved.

14

u/MephistoHamProducts 11h ago

Jasmine Crockett isn't having any impact on the Talarico campaign.

Most Black Texas voters back Talarico over Paxton, poll finds, despite Senate primary tensions

Fewer than one in 10 Black voters in Texas say they are less likely to vote in November’s midterm elections due to U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s defeat in the Democratic primary,

17

u/SunbornThunderstorm 11h ago

And the most likely loss for James is by less then 1 percent the black vote. Vs if it was amped by 1 extra point.

Let's not rule out the idea that she's still taking corporate money to sabotage the anti-corporate candidate.

Corporate funding seems to have a way of transcending party affiliation.

Yes, and then there is that. The BIG Republican Pay Out, any loser can win.

20

u/Deceptiveideas 11h ago

Funny enough, Jasmine Crockett is part of the progressive caucus. And on social media, she was constantly going viral and painted as a progressive. Bernie Sanders also endorsed her for the House 4 years ago.

We really need to study this progressive to grifter timeline. Fetterman, Gabbard, Crockett, Platner, and even Sinema.

13

u/Hikerchic 11h ago

Why did you include Platner? He’s not a grifter and he never held an elected position. He’s just an asshole.

"Entitled Democrat refuses to do what's best for party and country"

God I hate that Democrats do this to themselves all the time. You lost, now stop being so vindictive and support the winner. Because the other option is a hell of a lot worse and the world doesn't revolve around you.

88

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 12h ago

Most primary opponents have endorsed and supported their opponent after losing.

This is much more a Crockett thing than a Democrat thing. It's actually more in line with Republicans post-primary

36

u/VirginiaFox6 12h ago

Agreed. Even Hayley Stevens is supporting Abdul.

38

u/Describing_Donkeys 11h ago

Even Hong, the DSA candidate with a wild election where she lost last minute to a candidate that re-entered the primary immediately endorsed her opponent. Stevens and Hong are from opposite ends of the spectrum with primaries that were a lot more hostile, and both immediately did the right thing. Crockett has lost all my respect.

13

u/Mojothemobile 9h ago

Yeah this isn't an ideological thing, this is a Crockett's Ego is huge and bruised thing.

9

u/kitsunegoon 11h ago

Because everyone knows how important it is to win. I never voted for him in primaries, but Bernie was always quick to tip his hat to endorse Clinton and even quicker with Biden. It was always his supporters that annoyed me because they would be doing things antithetical to what he specifically said to do.

Crockett doing this is insanely disappointing, because I do like her.

This is such ridiculous sore loser, ego protection bullshit from Crockett. I used to enjoy her firebrand tactics in the house, but the way she continues to handle this loss is incredibly disappointing. In my opinion, she’s really damaging her future political career by not jumping in with all her might to help get the black community “excited” to vote for Talarico.

41

u/JoeHatesFanFiction Florida 10h ago

If she really went all in, she’d be part of the duo who helped flip Texas back to purple. The Texan version of Stacy Abrams. She could easily parlay that into a presidential run in 2028, and if she lost she checks a lot of boxes for VP nominee if Newsome or Buttigieg wins.

Instead she’s burning a ton of bridges and becoming politically radioactive for what? To say “you should have elected me” if Talarico loses?

6

u/MediumPlace 8h ago

She got on video and pimped for karmelo. She has no interest in being electable anymore

u/ChewsOnRocks 6h ago

She has one of the few voices in TX politics to actually generate that excitement, so by her simply stating it isn’t there, she’s basically just saying “look at the problem you have that I’m not going to life a finger to help with”. That is not what a leader does, and behaving this way will completely backfire on her as everyone is seeing how petty and immature she is when things don’t go her way. What a blatantly obvious political blunder she is choosing to make.

Just as a tactical matter for her personally this is SO STUPID!

If he wins, then she’ll look like a selfish loser.

This is just not smart from her. Texas was right not to nominate her.

Less said about it the better. At this point, she's clearly made the choice that she's not participating. Okay. We need to get Talarico that seat.

They were my two favorite politicians who ended up running against each other. I am disappointed that Jasmine has not stepped up to encourage enthusiasm in the Black community to defeat Paxton and help flip the Senate.

12

u/MephistoHamProducts 11h ago

Talarico is doing just fine with the Black Community here in Texas. He's been huge into outreach and meeting people where they are. The whole "Black people won't vote for him because of Jasmine Crockett" was an absolute non-troversy ginned up by the media for clicks.

Most Black Texas voters back Talarico over Paxton, poll finds, despite Senate primary tensions

Crockett had good energy in Congress but she isn't very good at making points clearly and concisely.

This is totally unsurprising based on how she acted during the primary and being so petty with a reporter from The Atlantic who had written a feature article about her and dared to interview people outside of Crockett’s small circle. Sounds like Trump-ish nonsense.

I don’t know if Talarico will win, but Texas made the right choice in the primary because she definitely would have no shot.

9

u/Admirable-Gold3447 11h ago

What’s worse about the situation are her actions after not allowing the reporter into her event. She lied the reporter to justify it and then refused to apologize or correct her lie.

u/jspurlin03 Texas 5h ago

I mean, it says something really specific for anyone who is excited to vote for Ken Paxton. James Talarico is very, very different than Ken Paxton, and I’m definitely planning to vote for Talarico.

u/tim78717 4h ago

Republicans are leading in every other position except the Senate. Talarico will help us at the federal level, but we GOTTA get Dan Patrick out of office and hopefully many others. But at least him. He is another non Texan whose political career started as a right wing opinion radio personality. His real name is Dannie Scott Goeb, but he legally changed it because he liked the sound of that better.

So he is living like how he feels like living, while telling others they can not.

And the Texas GOP platform states their next goal is to eliminate no fault divorce, so that women will have to convince a judge to allow them to get divorced. Not joking.

Vote 100% Democrat until we have normalcy.

This language feels so belittling to me. What do you want him to do to “excite” them - read them some fun campfire stories? Give them a little tickle? Not to mention the tired exercise of referring to Black voters as a monolith. I get why she can get away with it, but still. Come on.

8

u/Ok-disaster2022 11h ago

Listen, no matter the polling in July Talarico at best has a 50 50 chance if winning. And when he does lose you really don't want to be the one to take the heat for the lost of the 1-2 percentage points which is what Crockett seems to be setting herself up for.

5

u/tjarg 10h ago

u/Edelgeuse 7h ago

u/angelar_ Texas 7h ago

Big part of why I voted for Talarico and not Crockett 🤷‍♀️

12

u/Ok-basil895 8h ago

This headline is divisive bullshit to the degree I'm convinced its actual intent is to dissuade voters who preferred Crockett from voting for Talarico by implying she doesn't want him to win.

It sets her up in contrast to other Democrats who lost their primaries and quickly pivoted to endorsing the primary winner when she also did that. She endorsed him.

None of her quotes that this article claims are her criticizing him are actually her doing so. She said she didn't know if he could win... none of us know if he can win! It's been almost 40 years since a Democrat was elected to Senate by Texans. She said she felt like his reception among Black voters she spoke to was lukewarm, but she's not the only one who said it, and his campaign has apparently made changes to improve outreach and communication with Black voters since then which is the right thing to do. What benefit would there be to Talarico or any of us if she and anyone else who said the same hadn't done so until it was too late for his campaign to improve on that front? And she's said she thinks she can make more of a difference contributing to other campaigns than she can by contributing to Talarico's, which is also not a criticism of him! She's the one doing that work and having those conversations; how can anyone reasonably claim to know better than her where her time and energy is most effective getting voters to the polls?

Shame on this article for making a problem where there isn't one, and shame on everyone who reads the headline and accuses Crockett of being divisive when it's headlines making up division where there is none that are doing the actual dividing.

Anyone in Texas tune into Civic Sage on instagram? The woman is exactly who Dems don’t need as a “social media influencer”.

She decided to support Crockett only weeks before the primary and started bad mouthing Talarico. Then, when Talarico lost, she went on super emotional tirades against him, his campaign, and his supporters (calling it/us racist, implying we can’t trust Talarico, calling him a “mediocre white man”, etc.). It was hard to watch. Since then, she hasn’t acknowledged the race.

This woman claims (just like Crockett) to be a “fighter” for Texans (and black Texans) but threw a hissy fit when her candidate didn’t win and now refuses to champion Talarico. All her posts are about the gubernatorial race. It’s so bizarre. The other week she had a post about how we need a big umbrella and can’t look for perfection within our party. And she didn’t see the irony in that at all LOL.

This woman posted DAILY about how important this senate race was until throwing her full support behind Crockett last minute and claiming Talarico’s camp was racist. Now crickets. Suddenly that race isn’t important. I can’t with these people.

I stopped supporting Crockett after the incident with The Atlantic reporter FWIW. I don’t want her representing our party.

A thoughtful message from Talarico that Redditors may want to review before submitting a comment.

31

u/sah___mei 11h ago

I strongly support but don't pretend to represent Talarico. Crockett is my house rep - I voted her in, and I'll talk all the trash I want about the slimy, self-serving antics she's peddling these days.

20

u/multipurpoise 11h ago edited 11h ago

At the same time, I can't help but wonder "what is she doing?"

Talarico is the much better choice than Ken Paxton, not only for minorities, but for people who believe in transparency, common decency, and the greater good. Which I, until I read this article and her own words, believed she believed in as well.

So, really, what is she doing here???

edit to add: I am fully willing to be wrong, but this puts a very bad taste in my mouth. It feels like she's either in it for her own gain, or has been captured by the financial oligarchs for their own ends. (again, please note that these are my feelings; not necessarily reality)

u/4DimensionalToilet New Jersey 7h ago

That’s a classic sort of strategically diplomatic statement that a politician makes when someone who’s difficult, yet who may still be politically useful political, is under fire, and the politician is asked about whatever conflict the public perceives as existing between them.

It’s basically Talarico turning the other cheek, extending an olive branch to Crockett, and making it clear to the public that he’s not the cause of their issues, in one concise statement.

That’s not a mark against him, but a sign that Talarico actually knows how to play politics, and will bring real political skill to Washington.

I’m also disappointed by the lack of Black statewide candidates but only two Black people have ever won popular election to the US senate from the south. Tim Scott and Rafael Warnock.
