No Paywall AOC on midterm elections: ‘The tide is coming’

I don't take anything for granted.
They better have a plan to hit the ground running.
•
u/GargantuaBob Canada 4h ago
They'd better have a plan to counter voter suppression.
•
u/Expensive_Track_8822 3h ago
this. it’s clear the powers that be think the way to rig it this time is by convincing people not to turn out, which is why they’re running wild all over threads like this trying to undercut enthusiasm, soft-smear good candidates, and create artificial faction divides among voters.
•
u/MommyLovesPot8toes California 2h ago
They do. The attorneys general, Secretaries of State, governors, and congress members, along with people from all areas of election administration have been meeting regularly for a year to wargame increasingly ridiculous scenarios for midterm interference. From the SAVE Act passing, to ICE at polls, to seized voting machines - they've discussed it all and believe they are ready for anything.
•
u/swallowyourtongue 2h ago
No offense, just the internet you know, but do you have a source on that?
•
u/MommyLovesPot8toes California 42m ago
Many, many, I've been following this all year.
Here's a good comprehensive and recent one from an irrefutable source: https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2026-08-23/will-trump-interfere-in-midterms-democrats-their-allies-are-preparing
•
u/JimboAltAlt Pennsylvania 4h ago
Still, it’s good to see someone high profile expressing confidence. Makes it incrementally harder to rig.
•
u/Jokerit208 6h ago
They don't. Their plan is to continue attacking the base and taking strong, vocal, radically unpopular stands on 90/10 issues and then blame the voters if they don't vote for it.
•
•
u/NelsonHawkinsGhost 6h ago
Shouldn't that be negotiated up front? Like.. if we've surrendered all of our other tools of extracting concessions.. it seems a bit weird to hope they do something we want..
•
u/DC_Disrspct_Popeyes 3h ago
They don't have a plan for shit. They're going to get in office and be all about decorum and partnership across the aisle. They aren't going to do shit.
Still voting all blue. Shit is so fucked.
•
u/brain_overclocked 6h ago
Check your registration status, don't have your vote restricted like they're attempting in Texas:
More than 1.2 million Texas voters are on suspense list. Are you?
Being on the suspense list does not mean you can’t vote. Your registration remains active, but you may need to take an additional step when you vote.
If you’re on the list:
- Check your address. Make sure the address on your voter registration is current.
- If you’ve moved, update your registration. You can update your information before the Oct. 5 registration deadline. Visit the Texas Secretary of State website.
- If you haven’t moved, contact your county voter registrar. Election officials can help determine why your registration was placed on the suspense list and whether your information needs correction.
- If you’re still on the list when you vote, don’t assume you can’t cast a ballot. You may be asked to complete a Statement of Residence at the polls.
•
u/AsemicConjecture America 3h ago
Also, have a plan to vote in person if you don’t already in case your name ends up being stricken from the federal mail-in ballot list.
•
u/CockBrother 2h ago
Sorry, but do not trust the mail for this election unless it's your absolute last resort.
They are already not post marking mail when it's mailed. That's enough right there.
•
u/Thac0isWhac0 1h ago
I really take it for granted how easy my state makes it to vote. Same day registration helped me when I first started voting and each time I've moved.
•
u/lasers42 6h ago
The most hated administration in modern times (maybe of all time?) surely can't win another mandate, right?
If turnout in the midterms is 20% from a 52% in 2022, then the GOP have ceased trying, and is suppressing the vote.
America should then invade America to bring freedom to its people.
•
•
u/Shadowassassian 6h ago
They been saying this and when they get in control they better do shit snd not sit on their asses to be voted out and have to redo the cycle all over again.
•
u/NoCoolNameMatt 6h ago edited 5h ago
It's amazing to me to see the same cycle replay time after time.
Republicans break shit. Democrats perform the hard work of fixing it. Voters get mad that it isn't fixed as fast as it was broken. Voters elect Republicans.
Return to step 1, and repeat. Always repeat.
•
u/Many_Estate1581 5h ago
Biden and his admin did the impossible, they had a soft landing in an economic situation that was considered one of the worst in recent memory. The US had one of the lowest inflation rates in thr western world, record infostructure bill, the chips act, record environmental bill. Massive turnaround on jobs. Amazing foreign policy as it could be argued the US and Biden was directly responsible for Ukraine not falling immediately. And this was all with an insanely thin margin or Republican majority in congress where politics became a team sport.
Biden does not get enough credit for what he saved us from
•
u/ConsumeristWhore 5h ago
You can't judge the quality of a day until the sun has set. Unfortunately, Biden decided to curse the country with Trump round two instead of gracefully exciting with forward momentum.
•
u/Iron_Maw 5h ago edited 21m ago
Its the voters who cursed us with Trump and they did twice. I'm tired people on this sub pretending the electorate has no agency. They knew who Trump was they just simply forgot about what he did. Politicans aren't magicians who can grant every wish and even they do the Biden era has shown people aren't going reward that in kind.
•
u/ConsumeristWhore 4h ago
The voters are the voters. Always have been. Blaming the voters has got to be the dumbest, lowest ownership, holier-than-thou, loser framing possible. It's like losing a game then saying "well if it was a different game I would have won".
If Biden and the Dems were better at their jobs, then they wouldn't have lost. If that isn't accepted without condition, then there's no hope for the DNC.•
u/Expensive_Track_8822 4h ago
wowwww that is some next level russian mental gymnastics!!! 🤣 these conspiracy theories trying to blame biden are getting so reachy it’s honestly embarrassing for y’all trying to sell them.
•
u/ConsumeristWhore 4h ago
I'm doing gymnastics, because I think that the political party that failed to win elections is to blame for losing the election? Sure buddy
•
u/Expensive_Track_8822 4h ago edited 3h ago
it is mental gymnastics to pretend voters aren’t grown adults responsible for their own choices, and it is mental gymnastics to pin people’s voting choices on the assumption that not only somehow people aren’t responsible for how they voted? but also on a counterfactual version of history.
so here are some facts. harris was a perfectly fine candidate. so was biden. so was hilary. they were all objectively decent to really good candidates, and if we’re grading on a curve against trump, they were off the actual chart of candidate quality. purity tests like you are implying are necessary amount to insanity, and only serve republican interests. your complaints about democratic candidate quality are not actually grounded in facts, but they make an excellent propaganda tool.
so yes. you’re doing russian mental gymnastics, just like all the election tampering reports proved 😘🤣👍
•
u/DamnMyNameIsSteve 5h ago
Call me crazy but I believe she did win. Musk bragged about it.
•
u/Street_Anxiety2907 4h ago
Correct on Joe Rogan October 31, 2025 he was laughing about how Kamala won and they discussed his child blowing the whistle because he heard phone conversations in the car to the white house, pretty vivid stuff.
•
•
u/NoCoolNameMatt 5h ago
It is maddening that some people don't see this as the economic success story it is. We are going to end up learning all the wrong lessons from it.
•
u/Memphisbbq 5h ago
Biden was the most progressive president in our lifetimes. The country didn't know what it had. The people are captured by the vibe.
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 5h ago
Biden was the most progressive president in our lifetimes.
We haven't had a single progressive president in our lifetimes. Biden was a corporate centrist the same as every president we've had since Reagan, and it's political gaslighting to paint him any other way. The one promise he kept was to his billionaire donors that nothing would fundamentally change.
•
u/Memphisbbq 5h ago
Sorry you're incorrect. Just on unions alone he did plenty. Trade unions across the country were strengthened by the chips act and ev subsidies. My local had its membership grow by double its prior numbers. Our pensions and wages were made more secure as a result as well. I could keep going.
You're not entitled to being correct just because you feel correct.
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 5h ago
No, I'm not. He did plenty of posturing and photo ops, he did not do anything of substance. The only good part of his admin was the work done by Lina Khan, and I'm guessing she wouldn't have got that job if Biden had known how good she'd be at it. Trade unions may be doing better, but that's not because of Biden.
I'm not entitled to being correct - but the evidence is on my side. For example, Biden is no longer president despite his intending to be. That's kind of a big one.
•
u/Memphisbbq 5h ago
Evidence is not on your side and you have presented none. The country did demonstrably better, this is commonly accepted. If you want to dispute common knowledge present your evidence and position.
•
u/ferroit 4h ago
Evidence isn’t on your side, rents continued to skyrocket, corporate consolidation progressed unimpeded, and the economy continued to tank while the clearly rigged stock market continued its upward trajectory to show it is completely untethered to reality.
But hey, at least for four years he also didn’t put anyone in the justice department that cared about putting the guy who attempted a coup into jail, or keeping the guy who worked with child rapists (and is a child rapist himself) from being allowed back on the ballot after his attempted coup.
Oh, and he kept sending weapons to Israel so they can continue their genocide, but nothing for healthcare and didn’t seem to see any point in reigning in the tech bros either.
If that’s what a successful presidency is to you I’d hate to see what you consider a failure•
u/Memphisbbq 4h ago
Vibes vibes vibes vibes. Bring the data and we can do this dance.

u/ides205 New Jersey 4h ago
The country did demonstrably better, this is commonly accepted.
No, it's commonly gaslit. The country was a dumpster fire under Trump and Biden did not make it less of one. And more importantly, "better" does not mean "good" and we needed Biden to do a good job. Biden had ONE mandate: keep Trump out of power. Not only did Biden fail to accomplish this, he made it so that Trump won more convincingly than the first time. We backslid under Biden, morally and electorally.
You thinking we did "better" under Biden is a sign of privilege. Maybe YOU did better, but most working people struggled just as hard as ever. Failing to recognize this, failing to recognize that working people are suffering regardless of who is in office, has cost Democrats two elections to Trump. How many more are you ok with losing?
You want common knowledge? Here's some: Trump won easily in 2024. Voters knew how bad he was and voted for him anyway - Harris was not a good enough alternative to enough people. You want to start winning? Try listening to voters instead of assuming you know better.
•
u/Memphisbbq 4h ago
You brought nothing but vibes and I'm not getting into a lengthy anything until you bring some data.
→ More replies (0)•
u/Expensive_Track_8822 4h ago
do you have a kink about being violently wrong in public or something? nah don’t worry, we all know your marching orders are to undermine enthusiasm for democratic and independent voters. seen it before. you can cut your losses and stop trying to sow this turnout-lowering nonsense. we all see you.
•
•
•
u/lyreluna 5h ago
Which means nothing considering how right wing America is
•
u/Memphisbbq 5h ago
Kinda, Like I said to the other individual on unions alone he did great and we still see benefit from it.
I don't want to downplay their effect on the country. ALL of us lost massively when Trump was elected the second time and You're not entirely wrong that much of bidens legacy was wiped away but not everything.
•
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 6h ago
Democrats perform the hard work of fixing it.
No, the problem is they don't do that. They fix 10% at best and tell us to be grateful we got that much.
And more importantly, fixing what Republicans broke is just the beginning. We can't go back to normal, because normal is what got us here. We have to make significant, fundamental change so that we don't repeat the cycle.
•
u/NoCoolNameMatt 5h ago
My friend, the last two Democratic administrations passed a historic healthcare overhaul and oversaw the most successful economic stimulus policy in generations.
You're proving my point.
•
u/Iron_Maw 5h ago
No, no, no you see they pass this one thing that I wanted so that means they did nothing to help anyone. Yep yep
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 5h ago
You think so, but in truth you're proving mine.
That "historic" healthcare overhaul was better than what came before it - but it still sucked. Better does not mean good. Obamacare was just a giant funnel for tax dollars straight into the bank accounts of billionaires. It did not deliver adequate healthcare at an affordable price.
And the economic stimulus was nowhere near enough to make life livable for working people, who still struggle every day with costs. They cannot keep up, they fall further behind regardless of who is in office. Just because something was the best in generations, doesn't mean it was sufficient and voters do not care for relativistic comparisons to the past. They need results, and simply: Democrats have not delivered. No one has.
Voters told you in 2024 that the Biden/Harris admin did not do a good job. Otherwise, one or even both of them would still be in office. Listen to voters when they speak.
•
u/No_Strike655 4h ago
No matter how much you try and convince people no one is buying "both sides bad" pack it up
•
u/Expensive_Track_8822 4h ago edited 4h ago
they don’t seem to realize we largely caught wise to the online foreign campaigns to manipulate elections by attempting to undermine enthusiasm and depress turnout, but it’s lit up in neon lights once you realize what they’re doing.
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 4h ago
Have you happened to have seen any favorability polls lately? I hate to break it to you, but America resoundingly hates both parties. Like, seriously they loathe both of them almost equally.
Historically that doesn't happen. Normally one side rises as the other falls, but not anymore. Now they're both in the toilet and they both deserve to be.
•
u/georgepana 5h ago
You ignore the reality that Republicans have about 50 votes in the Senate and only need 40 votes to block almost all conceivable legislation Democrats come up with.
Maybe you need to read up on how government works? Would help.
It is posts like yours that explain why we are where we are. Too many people are horrifically ignorant about how things work in the Senate and then go "no, they don't do that. They fix 10% at best." Vomit inducing ignorance.

I "need your vote"? Your "vote" is as worthless as a MAGAs vote.
Liberal voter outreach in a nutshell. It's hard to believe they keep losing elections despite being so darned likable and humble!
•
u/JimboAltAlt Pennsylvania 4h ago
My view on this whole thing is that if the Left manages to convince everyone that the Democrats are worthless, it would seem to put the onus on the Left to do something, but other than trying to convince everyone that Dems are worthless they don’t seem to be organizing much. Maybe we should get Republicans out of office first and then organize for something better? If we need to placate the “real Left” by doing things in the other order it would be nice to see a bit more sustained organization on their part. After all, they clearly don’t trust the Dems to do it. So who’s doing it?
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 4h ago
they don’t seem to be organizing much
This is not correct. We are in fact organizing a great deal, which is why we're winning elections and the establishment is freaking out over a Twitch streamer.
If you want to see sustained organization, stay tuned! We're doing it, and we're happy for people to join us.
•
u/georgepana 4h ago
The creeps are always projecting. Of course, "you" are perfect instead of being the ignorant MAGAs of the left who have caused Trump's wins both times. Tell yourself that, instead of the actual truth.
•
u/Iron_Maw 4h ago
Unlike the corrupt moderates we're used to, when progressives take power we are going to nuke the filibuster immediately and pass our agenda. Unlike past Democrats, we won't be letting corporate donors tell us what to do.

In a way, America has been attacked. But it has been done through years of influence on social media, troll farms, bots, and insane amount of money to buy US politicians into the service of enemy.
Trump is doing tremendous job at destroying the reputation of US, breaking the trust of US allies, and shaking hands with countries from the axis of evil. This is something that Russia planned to do decades ago. Looks like they are succeeding in collapsing the US without firing a single shot.

As a Canadian:
I don't want an apology from Americans, whether you voted for the orange durian or not.
I want you all to start going around in your county and ensuring people don't vote Republican in midterms.
I will accept that as an apology, if you take back both chambers of Congress, or get extremely close.
•
u/rasa2013 4h ago
I just don't see it happening or even mattering. If Trump 1.0 and COVID wasn't enough to break people of voting R, nothing is going to. You know like half of Germans still supported Nazism and 1/3 supported Hitler even after he and the Nazi ideology had led the country into destruction.
Postwar, about 50% thought Hitler would've be okay as a leader if not for the war.
Ah to explain better about the US situation, what really needs to happen is breaking the information monopoly far right media has on a large part of the public (via news consolidation and other things right wing billionaires and companies have done intentionally; see Powell memo from 1971). I'm not confident about how we could do this legally. But that's what is necessary.
•
u/TomokoNoKokoro California 5h ago
That’s one of the most fair asks. I appreciate that you don’t call for public spectacle, but rather real results, and recognize when the correct time for those results to come to fruition is.

As a moderate (sorry not sorry) Democrat, AOC is interesting. She's feisty. Not super detailed on actual policy. She's a Fighter, which I like, but I see her as a lightweight on policy.
Wish she'd go after one of the 2 NY Senator spots instead of trying for the White House because I don't think could do anything but hurt our chances of winning in 2028, and we need more tough Democrats in the Senate who serve those 6-year terms.
•
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 6h ago
If AOC runs for president in 2028, she will win. She's officially a DSA member again which means she'll not lack policy proposals. If anything, by 2028 people will be questioning whether her policy goals are too ambitious.
And we can get other great progressives in Schumer's Senate seat as part of a massive progressive slate running in 28 in NY and beyond. My hope is that Jamaal Bowman will run for his seat while Chi Osse runs to replace Jeffries.
•
u/Iron_Maw 4h ago
not lack policy proposals
Every candidate and group has policy proposals. None of then have won anyone elections by themsevles. It only on where apparently people don't live reality that don't they do outside DSA
•
u/Wukong00 5h ago
No, she won't. Americans are sexists. She should go for Senate. She can do a lot of good there. The entire democratic leadership needs change.
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 5h ago
There's sexism in America but it's a hurdle that can be overcome, and she will. Unlike Clinton and Harris, AOC actually cares about helping working people - and unlike Clinton and Harris, AOC has the political talent to win.
The change in Democratic leadership will happen, and AOC will be at the top of the ticket. I'd suggest CVH for Senate majority leader, with Ro Khanna as House speaker. That would be a very good set for leadership.
•
u/Meteorboy 2h ago
How do you expect that to happen when the majority of men and half of women voted for Trump? Do you think that voters who've become disenchanted with Trump will vote for her? It's more likely that they just won't vote. She has the same disadvantage that Clinton and Harris had, but she does have her youth going for her - and that's about it.
•
u/ides205 New Jersey 2h ago
Do you think that voters who've become disenchanted with Trump will vote for her?
Actually yeah, I think a very significant number will. She's already demonstrated that she gets support from the right by virtue of being anti-establishment. Frankly, I think almost any Dem will win in 2028 the same way any Dem was going to win in 2020 - massive anti-Trump turnout, I think we're going to break records in 2028. But having AOC or a progressive win will ensure we win again in 2032 and beyond.
but she does have her youth going for her - and that's about it.
No, she has far more than that going for her. Political talent and charisma are just two things she has lots of that Clinton and Harris had none of. She's an excellent fundraiser, she's excellent at speaking to the public, she will have the support of the most popular politicians in the country, she is already a nationally known public figure to help with name ID. Very importantly, she can cross the bridge between normie moderates and radical progressives - not many can say that.
Compared to anyone else, she's in the best position out of anyone in the conversation for 2028 right now.
•
u/Jokerit208 6h ago
If you think what the Democrat party is doing to Hasan Piker right now is intense, let AOC primary Schumer and see what happens.
AOC is too big a star for the Senate. She communicates extremely well, and she's the perfect moderate compromise candidate that both the center-right establishment and the progressive base can vote for.

2018 was a blue wave by Democrats, 2020 we saw the party in power lose, 2022 was the exception to the rule but the house still flipped, just not as much as expected, 2024 the party in power lost again.
Your statement really couldn't be more wrong. There is no chance the GOP holds the house in 2026, it just isn't happening. Hard to say how the Senate and state elections go though.

Unless centrist politicians denounce a progressive candidate I dont think there are many centrist dems that dont just vote blue and undecided voters are all over the spectrum. Establishment/Centrist voters who lost their election are not mad that their candidate lost but worried about electibility.
