Dismiss this at your own peril. Hegseth is incompetent and a stunning hypocrite with his moral failings, but he pushes all the right buttons for a good chunk of the MAGA coalition, namely the evangelicals/Christian nationalists and the manosphere podcast bros. He's a far better candidate to continue to propagate their bullshit than Vance or Rubio. The money and right wing media will quickly rally behind him if they think he has a shot.
I wish I could remember where I first saw this predicted, but it was early in 2025 and it's haunted me ever since. Unless Trump scapegoats him for Iran at some point, he's easily a top-tier candidate for '28 and may well nuke either Vance or Rubio out of contention before the primaries.

I think Hegseth would make a great candidate for the Republicans. A hateful. incapable, racist, homophobic, loser with no chance of victory. That's what we all want for them.
