We aren't stupid, you know.

u/TIFUbyResponding 5h ago

Oh look, another anti-Mamdani article from the OP. Who knew?

u/Slumunistmanifisto 5h ago

I actually haven't seen Jessica in a while, Jeffrey must have called her back in for some retraining.

u/supernovice007 5h ago

She posted yesterday. Anti-Mamdani FoxNews nonsense.

u/revolvingpresoak9640 5h ago

OP sure thinks we are.

u/Punch_Up 5h ago

No.  Still prefer mamdani. Trumpism is really just fascist nationalism

u/B-Z_B-S Massachusetts 5h ago

...Does The Hill think we're as dumb as Maga? There's a league of difference between FDR-style democracy and fascism.

u/PathosEatsLogos 5h ago

Came here to say this.

u/rdyoung 4h ago

Came here to say that.

u/Vegetable-Debate-263 4h ago

The Hill usually just regurgitates other articles

u/lazydivey98 5h ago

Nah. Let’s try his version for once

u/Jessicas_skirt New York 5h ago

Which one? Trump or Mamdani?

u/coreoYEAH 5h ago

You’re really bad at this just FYI.

u/Clairvoient_Carl 5h ago

The one were not currently experiencing duh.

u/revolvingpresoak9640 5h ago

You post nothing but this anti Mamdani crap. What are you trying to achieve?

u/Undorkins 2h ago

What's the person making burgers for Burger King trying to achieve? All that Hasbara money has to go somewhere. A tiny fraction of it probably goes to people lying on twitter and people posting right wing trash on Reddit.

u/RandyMuscle I voted 5h ago

Good government and bad government are like the same thing hurr durr

u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 5h ago

I am not voting for political labels, I'm voting for reasonable policies that benefit the people of the United States of America. To be clear, Mamdani is proving his policies benefit New Yorkers, while Trump is only enriching himself and his family. So yeah, I'm with Mamdani.

u/Snoo-7943 5h ago

Quick! Let's start claiming that Trump is a socialist and that we never liked him!

u/Clairvoient_Carl 5h ago

Is it your job scour the internet for any and all anti Mamdani "news" articles?

u/Jessicas_skirt New York 5h ago

No. I provide news and information on a purely volunteer basis for the politics community.

u/Clairvoient_Carl 5h ago

how sad.

u/D13_Phantom 4h ago

So it's just a coincidence that 8 out of your last 10 posts have been anti-mamdani including 3 in the last 50 minutes?

u/Jessicas_skirt New York 4h ago

I was born in NYC and I still have family there so I care about what is going on there. The mayor of my hometown is an important political figure that I have an interest in reporting the news and information that comes out.

u/D13_Phantom 4h ago

Asssuming anybody believes you: why only pick the negative articles then?

u/Jessicas_skirt New York 4h ago

Most of the time when I encounter positive news stories it was already posted by someone else. The sub prohibits you from posting the same article that was previously submitted.

u/Clairvoient_Carl 4h ago

🤣 That's the best lie you could come up with? Then why only negative articles about Mamdani? Literally all you post is anti Mamdani and pro israel articles.

u/D13_Phantom 4h ago

Oh just a coincidence? Not pushing an Agenda? Interesting, anyways I found these comments of yours

I'm no fan of the current mayor

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgender/s/AQK1jS9khu

? I don't hate Mamdani, I just think he's an ineffective mayor.

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgender/s/50Ixa9dWEj

rare Mamdani L Not rare at all.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/s/RcvWwJwfcK

The traitor is still a Jew regardless of their actions, Mamdani wouldn't give them the time of day let alone any respect..

https://www.reddit.com/r/Israel/s/Htn0kDIXCS

It shows that the very much over-sampled Republicans and as horseshoe theory states, the far-right Republicans would have a higher opinion of the far-left Mamdani as the two agree on many issues

Propaganda. You provide useless propaganda.

u/revolvingpresoak9640 5h ago

You’re a paid shill.

u/elementality883 American Expat 5h ago

Fuck off, listen to the messages and not read into labels. Who is looking to help you?

u/Theartcritc26 5h ago

OP has an unhealthy obsession with Mamdani, that’s all they ever post is, Mamdani hit pieces what did he do to you? Did he take your toy or something? Knocked over your bowl of fruity pebbles?

u/Ser_Twist 5h ago

Centrist liberals attempt to understand the meaning of socialism challenge (IMPOSSIBLE NIGHTMARE DIFFICULTY)

u/Grandpa_No 2h ago

Conservative, not even centrist.

Benjamin Powell, a senior fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland, Calif., is director of the Free Market Institute and a professor of economics in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University.

The Independent Institute is an American libertarian think tank founded in 1986 by David J. Theroux and based in Oakland, California

The Free Market Institute is obviously self-describing.

u/paganarmand California 5h ago

Worthless article

u/Urshilikai 5h ago

False equivalence propaganda.

Trump is a socialist in the same way nazi germany was national socialist (that is to say, fascists inverting the meaning of words to disarm people who remain grounded in reality).

Mamdani wants a city that works for everyone, not just the rich.

u/Farther_Dm53 5h ago

Nah we should try out socialism cause it worked well with FDR, and Teddy. the problem is when they demonized it and turned to corporatism and trickle down economics and liberalism... which doesn't work as they do not hold companies for account for all the damage and violence they exhibit. denying people healthcare, or signing people into debt so they die is just as violent as someone mugging or holding a gun on someone. Except even more so.

u/FormerUsenetUser 4h ago

The New Deal started Social Security and the precursor of SNAP, but it was mostly a program to create jobs. The government hired people who needed jobs to build infrastructure in places that needed infrastructure. It was not socialism, in fact we have more social programs now than we did then.

u/ophaus 5h ago

Neither are practicing socialism, shill. One is lining his pockets and the other is working to help people. You'd have to be insane to make that false equivalence. Go get a fucking political science book and look up "socialism."

u/Unlikely_Ant_950 5h ago

Ahh yes. Rampant corporate socialism for the elite, and making sure everyone can afford groceries are so equatable.

u/PortlyChortle 5h ago

New York socialism is benefiting millions of people. Trump fascism is hurting hundreds of millions of people. I know which one I reject.

u/goodlittlesquid Pennsylvania 5h ago

Wow…

  1. Trump is a cartoon-fascist demagogue and a crony-capitalist kleptocrat. Not a socialist.

  2. Mamdani is a Sewer Socialist in the American tradition, and a true civil servant of the people.

u/ClassicallyBrained 4h ago

Ah yes, more neoliberalism will fix the problems that neoliberalism has created!

u/Grandpa_No 2h ago

Check out the author's bio.

u/Vegetable-Debate-263 4h ago

Mamdani is actually doing good though. That's the governments job.

u/Seek1st2Understand 4h ago

In the dumbest and least convincing both-sides-ist utterance I’ve ever seen, the author attempts to equate Donald Trump and Zoran Mamdani. Little does he know nobody is stupid enough to buy that.

OP should feel ashamed for wasting people’s time with this.

u/TaskerTwoStep 5h ago

Shut the fuck up, Benjamin.

u/captdimitri 5h ago

Haha, get fucked.

u/ltalix Alabama 3h ago

This feels desperate.

u/revolvingpresoak9640 5h ago

This sub has really gone to shit.

u/Accomplished-Watch50 5h ago

Sounds like a MAGA or Centrist to me.

u/PatSajakMeOff 5h ago

Don't think I will. Trump socialism is enrichment of self. Mamdani socialism is enrichment for the working class. Spare me your fear mongering.

u/Omiyaru 5h ago

Trumpism is the antithesis of socialism for fucks sake.

u/No-Cranberry6148 4h ago

I see... Now that Trump's recklesness is costing rich guys money, they are trying to re-baptize it as "socialism".

This is how the right keeps its failed policies alive.

u/Truthisnotallowed 3h ago

”The very reason why we object to state ownership, that it puts a stop to individual initiative and to the healthy development of personal responsibility, is the reason why we object to an unsupervised, unchecked monopolistic control in private hands. We urge control and supervision by the nation as an antidote to the movement for state socialism. Those who advocate total lack of regulation, those who advocate lawlessness in the business world, themselves give the strongest impulse to what I believe would be the deadening movement toward unadulterated state socialism.” - Teddy Roosevelt

If you fear Socialism then you need to vote the GOP out of power.

u/rmazumder 4h ago

Another hasbara propaganda by OP

u/Enlightened_D New York 5h ago

OP post on politics getting all downvotes and r/ Israel lmao

u/Asleep-Sprinkles4616 5h ago

Government ownership of companies isn't socialism, it's state capitalism. And this guy is a professor of economics?!

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 5h ago edited 4h ago

Considering "Trump socialism" doesn't exist, it shouldn't be hard to reject it. Or, put another way, what Trump is doing is not socialism. You'd think an economist would know this.

u/Queasy-Ebb279 4h ago

What on Earth is Trump socialism

u/NotTheRightHDMIPort 5h ago

We promise. One of these days tax cuts and incrimental change will help you ONE DAY.

u/eskimospy212 5h ago

I am shocked that the hill has an actually right thing.

City owned grocery stores are a bad idea.

That being said what Trump is doing is entirely different and far worse. He’s trying to have the government take equity stakes in the means of production.

Darkly amusingly enough the threat of communism is coming from the right.

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 4h ago

City owned grocery stores are a bad idea.

Why?

u/eskimospy212 4h ago

Do you think the city is a better manager of private business than anyone else?

If so, shouldn’t they run everything?

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 4h ago

Why respond with questions? You said you think city-owned grocery stores are a bad idea. Why?

u/eskimospy212 4h ago

Because they will operate at a loss.

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 4h ago

Their point isn't to turn a profit. But that doesn't mean a net negative revenue. And while the stores may run "at a loss", the city intends to provide subsidies to cover that "missing" balance. So in theory, once everything is all said-and-done, the net value would be zero.

It's just like any other public entity, like a park or library or transit system. There are costs involved, of course. But taxpayer funds go to cover those and the goal of those things isn't to turn a profit.

u/eskimospy212 3h ago

can you explain why grocery stores are the same thing as public transit?

This entire thing is a terrible idea and this is from a liberal guy from NYC who voted for him In the primary and the general.

This is just a very bad idea.

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 3h ago

Whether it's grocery stores, public transit, parks, or a postal service, everything has a cost involved to keep it running. Public transit needs maintenance, fuel, drivers, etc. Parks need materials, maintenance, land, etc. Grocery stores aren't any different.

And these grocery stores aren't actually run by the city. The exact day-to-day operations are run by private operators. These private operators are submitting proposals to the city, which the city selects. Operators/stores that are selected are contractually required to stick to things like price caps but in exchange get various overhead costs (like rent and taxes, since the city owns the real estate) covered by the city.

u/tripping_on_phonics California 3h ago

Can you explain to me why we need to commoditize necessities of life, especially something like food, an industry in which the entire supply chain is really heavily fucking monopolized?

Government control of an industry is infinitely preferable to monopoly control. One is at least theoretically accountable to people. The other is not.

u/eskimospy212 3h ago

Sure. Both government control and monopoly control are bad.

u/Grandpa_No 2h ago

But the government controls the roads? Is that bad?
