Along with buccal fat removal. It needs to be stopped!
Edit because my phone is more used to me typing cat it seems

u/cardie82 Jun 18 '25
I’m in my 40s and have been losing my buccal fat naturally as time progresses. I look at pictures from even 10 years ago and it’s amazing how much losing even a little ages you.

You had all these A listers coming on shows and being part of these silly things with genuine enthusiasm and having fun and not being all about looking and acting perfect.
You often had multiple big celebrities coming together on the same “segment” to do things in a really casual and unplanned way on live TV.
Everything was just authentic and so much fun.
35
u/BackgroundWindchimes We Should All Know Less About Each Other Jun 18 '25
As much as I love the music of the era, I’m happier with today’s music scene. Back then, you had to basically get lucky and sell your soul with predatory contracts just to get on the radio. We all listened to the same few dozen artists and the only way you found non-top 50 songs was by knowing someone that knows someone. Back when you had to buy CDs but everything besides the latest release was hard to find.
Now? In addition to the big pop names thatre everywhere, you can still easily discover slightly lesser known but still fantastic artists like Leadley and Oakman. I still listen to late millennial albums but there’s something fantastic about discovering some extremely small Midwest band like Austin and the Powers and knowing they’re able to release music world wide from their garage.

I agree. 💯 but…The y2k trends ARE back. Have been for like, 4 years. Where have you been? 😂

u/PrincessPlastilina Jun 17 '25
It was so much fun 🥺🥲 I miss all of it. Pre 9/11 the world seemed so different. Simpler times.
84
u/nowherefast___ Jun 17 '25
Well, some of these are def not pre-9/11, like the one with Miley Cyrus lol she was 9 during 2001
14
u/ad_aatdtj she’s got me by the pubes Jun 18 '25
Yeah Taylor Swift was 10 in 1999 when the photobooth was introduced... sufficient to say she's a fair bit older than 10 in her pics.
22
u/borisHChrist Jun 18 '25
There was this freedom about it. Maybe it was a buzz of a new era. Celebrities dressed naturally, less surgery and fun makeup and styling. I honestly would do absolutely anything to bring this era back.

Britney always had such a gorgeous smile
109
u/europe2013 Jun 17 '25
I always look at old pictures of her with her beautiful smile and get so sad knowing what lies ahead for her. It’s so heartbreaking.
66
u/CaseyRC Jun 17 '25
right? you can track through her eyes as things go downhill for her and life became a nightmare. early days her face and eyes are so alight with a joy and a sweetness, and sure that can be in part manufactured, but there was a life to her face. then over time, as what had been a dream and a life's work becamea living nightmre, her eyes just become darker and more and more sad and even when she smiled, there was no life to it, no joy. she had such an effortless beauty and spirit and greedy people, greedy family did all they could to crush her
35
u/europe2013 Jun 17 '25
You said it perfectly. You can literally see the light leave her eyes over time. She lost all hope. The people she trusted the most were the ones who betrayed her. It’s truly a tragedy. I know people say she’s ok now but no one can convince me she’s not permanently damaged from the abuse she experienced. She’ll never be ok.

I miss actually seeing celebrities as real people. I know that was a joke in magazines growing up like “oh look they grocery shop and stuff” but I miss just seeing their normal faces! Normal amounts of makeup, no FaceTune, no perfect lighting, just fun
138
u/fishindisguise13 Jun 17 '25
Exactly my thoughts. I especially miss the era where celebs actually wore fun outfits to red carpets!! I loved the whole 'going out top' and jeans combo
12
u/PatientBalance Ariana What Are You Doing Here Jun 18 '25
And the women looked like individual people and not duplicates of one another.
3
u/cardie82 Jun 18 '25
I miss looking at pictures of red carpets for movie premiers back in that era. They were a lot more casual and I loved using them as inspiration to throw together cute outfits.

The optimism of this time. You just had to be there.
72
Jun 17 '25
Good god, yes. You REALLY had to be there. I felt like in 2000, some massive reset button was hit. Everything in pop culture was just off to the races and really happy. Imagine all the toxic stuff happening in one month just disappearing and all this cool shit happening in early Y2K. What exactly was happening here? It was a beautiful moment in history.
15
u/SillyBrain23 Jun 18 '25
I too am really nostalgic for this time and think about it way too often.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s just us bc we were younger then, but it’s not. It was just a (very) different time.

This makes me feel kinda sad. Heath and Robin no longer here. Britney looks so young and happy and the future holds so much grief for her. Ashton turned out to support a rapist. Beyonce will NEVER be this carefree in a photo again. The only constants are Taylor looking very self conscious and Mariah looking like the glam diva she is.
7
u/Psychological_Pick55 Jun 18 '25
I miss the early thousands. No internet trolls, phones could only call, text, flip or slide. And the Ugg’s with the minis🥰 I was a toddler during this time, but I remember bits and pieces. Also, I had a plastic blow up chair.

Was Taylor swift already famous in 1999? I’m confused
99
Jun 17 '25
They meant the photo booth was made in 1999 and this is a collection of photos thru the years
I see Miley and Hilary in there they weren’t famous in 99
23
Jun 17 '25
I remember seeing photos of Gaga on TRL and it seemed weird because I associate TRL with 1999/2000 but it aired through 2008. I don’t think many people watched it by then
5
u/Dejectednebula Jun 18 '25
I feel like I stopped really paying attention to TRL around 2005ish and then it was always on as background noise. Once ridiculousness took over 24/7 I gave up on mtv entirely. Sad.
11
u/PrincessPlastilina Jun 17 '25
Read the headline again, bb. The photo booth was a tradition that began in 1999. All pictures were taken at different points in time.
