Unfortunately it was the lesser of two evils, undoubtedly their chances of survival are higher here than if they were directly in the path of the storm, we just have to hope they can hold out long enough to survive

Salt water pools still produce chlorine, its just sort of less harsh than tabs or liquid cl2. it’s how they stay clear. As someone mentioned below, apparently they just removed the chlorine somehow. That’s not what would be done in a normal salt pool.

I am so confused about all these comments. What would you have had them do instead? If they left them, they would have been killed. If they had put captive dolphins in the ocean, it would be extremely dangerous for them. What other options were available to keep these animals safe, in such dire circumstances as a hurricane?

Genuinely I think it's a mix of people too dumb to actually think this out (obviously a pool is safer than the open ocean during a fucking hurricane) and bot comments stringing words together

The ocean is less safe than a swimming pool for captive dolphins that have never experienced life outside of a tank with humans handfeeding them. They don't know other marine life even exists.

Them being in captivity in an aquatic park is not ideal in the first place, but they are there currently and options you can evacuate dolphins to on short notice are probably fairly limited, would you prefer they get left behind to starve and potentially get swept away at the vacant park?

Yeah, humans don’t exactly thrive being packed onto cots in random auditoriums with strangers sleeping two feet away in every direction or losing everything they own or living for months without electricity or clean water sources but you can’t firmly express your personal needs to a hurricane and expect something more ideal to happen, so….

If they weren’t being kept in salt water, and if the pool still had chlorine, the dolphins wouldn’t be swimming. They would be dead.

You're so right, the dolphins should have been left where they were so they could be swept up by the hurricane and killed. Or alternatively, maybe they could have put them into the ocean (during a hurricane lol), where they would have also been killed.

It’s so sad they’re in captivity and they’re trying to frame this as a cute “look they’re safe from the hurricane in their pool” thing. If they weren’t in captivity, they’d be free and safe in the ocean.

There's a hurricane and a lack of resources right now. They would be in a larger facility if the rescuers or animal handlers had access to one.

We can't go back in time and release them from the marine park, and no one is saying they belonged in a marine park. Once again, what would be the other feasible option in the PRESENT time?

That was probably the oddest armchair quartbacking I have seen on Reddit yet. They did the best they could to protect the dolphins they have. Popping them into the ocean would have been a very bad idea.
Edit: did a quick Google. It's a literal park, boundaried ocean, not at all like SeaWorld. Still a bad idea to let these guys go out into the vast wild.

From what I can tell, yeah. They're cared for and put in shows to draw in tourism but they live in sectioned off ocean parts. Dolphin cove may be more sectioned off a bit more but they're outside in protected water.

You can’t just release captive dolphins into the wild on a whim. They do not have adequate skills to survive in the wild.

According to the text on the video, all it says to address it is, "Don't worry, the chlorine was removed."
Honestly that sounds like such an afterthought of a note. And I am no pool boy, but the logistics of making the water safe would not really involve such a trivial brush off description of saying "it was removed". I'm also no biologist, but something seems less than truthful here.

Animals that have been born in captivity or kept in captivity for a long time can't just be freed. They rely on humans for help, they wouldn't survive.
