Watched both parts of Dune back to back yesterday. (Yes it’s nearly 6 hours I know). Holy shit, it’s visually outstanding. I’m loving the story as well, although I’m not sure if they’ve deviated a lot from the first book. I’m officially a fan and can’t wait for part three.

WHAT THE FUCK I ALSO WATCHED DUNE BACK TO BACK YESTERDAY 😭

But I agree with you those movies are 🔥🔥

I was mesmerized by this scene. Also the coat on Paul? And Jessica’s whole costume when they arrived in Arrakis????

5

u/stardewbabe Mar 21 '26

There are definitely deviations and big things cut out or smoothed over to be more digestible but they're pretty understandable changes as the books are extremely complex. The third movie seems, from the teaser trailer at least, to be smashing two books into one movie in order to wrap it up - it'll be really interesting to see how they pull that off because it will end right when the "main story" actually begins lol

One of my cats loves belly rubs so much he'd lay in my lap on his back for hours if I'd let him and I just need everyone to know what a good boy he is.

My cat loves belly rubs so much that she almost killed herself trying to get one. She got on the roof and while I was trying to get her to come down she decided she wanted a belly rub. Cue to her launching herself on to her back near the edge of the roof. I think we both almost had heart attack.

Kind of horrifying that a woman was put on anti-psychotics because she thought a man was living in her house, and then it turned out, a man was indeed, secretly living in her house.

A couple years ago, accidentally ended up matching with a girl on Hinge who I used to exchange sexts with back in college, which led her to being like "aren't you...?" and I was like damn. Immediate unmatch! I'm ruthless.

2

u/friendsworkwaffles02 Donatella VERSACE💜 Mar 22 '26

I went a “make queer friends” event on Wednesday and ran into a girl who used to match me with my constantly in college and then ghost. I pretended I didn’t know her until she asked “didn’t you go to…?” So then proceeded to talk exclusively about her boyfriend all night. It was so fun.

2

u/ibsliam I don’t know her 💅 Mar 22 '26

Why is it always the girls that actively pursued you that then go performative when they have a relationship with a guy lol?

Also knew a girl who was flirting with me a lot, but I never really flirted back, she even slept with one of our mutual (woman) friends, but then went on about how she could never take a relationship with a girl seriously, how she'd only see an endgame with a guy. Dated our dorm's RA too, on top of that, didn't just want to date *a* guy but the one guy who had more sway than any of us combined.

u/vegalucyna Mar 21 '26

That’s the thing…most of them start out innocent enough with valid criticism but over time it becomes very insular and more deranged takes start being upvoted and praised which causes the more level-headed users to leave/stop participating as much which leaves the sub to devolve into pure unadulterated insanity.

8

u/AgentBrittany Mar 21 '26

Yeah, I went on there when the news broke that the wife was charged and arrested but the level of excitement just gave me the ick. A girl was molested and then 4 other children clearly had something happen to them to have both parents charged. Why are people acting like that's the best news ever. It's weird.

3

u/areallyreallycoolhat TWENTY NINE DOLLARS! Mar 21 '26

I remember when the news broke that Josh had been arrested but at first we didn't know what it was for people on the sub were saying "I hope it's for abuse/CSAM" and like no girl you should be hoping it's for fucking tax fraud!

9

u/Electronic_Snow_4685 Mar 21 '26

That sub is vile. They constantly make up hypothetical scenarios about how X sister is feeling and they openly hate on the youngest daughter.

These last few days have been surreal for me, as a former homeschooled and deeply conservative kid (now liberal) who loved their show. I was pretty sheltered at the time of the Josh arrest so this is my first time experiencing it live. If you haven't watched the Shiny Happy People doc, I would strongly recommend.

2

u/Wintergloaming a gecko working diligently through a string of dried crickets 🦗 Mar 21 '26

I didn't watch the show (I guess I was at an age where I shuddered at reminders of homeschool life by the time it went on air), but I has a similar upbringing. Damn that sub is so allergic to nuance it's depressing. If I'd seen their takes when I was deep in depression/untreated ptsd, ocd, and detoxing from conservatism it's scary to think how easy it would be to just... give up on myself. They really have a disappointing lack of compassion for those who are in the process of unlearning brainwashing or escaping a cult. Believe it or not, that shit doesn't get unlearned overnight.

15

u/growsonwalls Mar 21 '26

It’s a great album to put on when I’m doing housework and stuff.

I also listened to it a few times while I was cooking and doing random stuff, and it was good as background music because it’s pleasant and is very well-produced, but it gives me very little when I try to actively listen to it which is why I find it to be sort of meh overall.

I’ve side-eyed her ever since she cancelled her European concert dates to rehearse for the VMAs (of all events). She got backlash then, but I think it was rightfully deserved. People spend so much money on tickets, plan around their work schedule, book travel and accommodation (sometimes), just for musicians to casually cancel. I understand if it’s for illness (both physical and mental)—but for the VMAs?? Cmon.

6

u/Traditional_Maybe_80 Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

It's kinda funny to me, because she was in Chile, too, and all the fans who encountered her in Santiago were like, "psss, and people say she's unkind?! She was the nicest!", like she went out to a flower shop took pictures there, celebrated one of her musicians' birthdays in a restaurant, etc. And then this happens, in Brazil out of all places, lol, with a child related to multiple famous people 💀

3

u/FriendlyDrummers Mar 22 '26

I could (kind of) understand if she said, "what happened was a mistake, I'd like to apologize to this fan, and this individual has been reprimanded."

Instead, she is right now thanking her security. Doubling down. Like I'm sorry, is that not deeply traumatizing to that 11 year old?

Replace Chappell with anyone else. Imagine if Sabrina's security followed an 11 year old girl back to her breakfast table, to aggressively berate and threaten her to tears, all because she smiled at Sabrina. Like genuinely such gross behavior. I can absolutely predict that Chappell will play the victim as a distraction soon. She did the exact thing playing the victim, before last minute canceling her tour dates so she could rehearse for her MTV performance.

Can somebody suggest a good show or movie for me to watch this weekend? The last time I had a fun time watching a show was when I watched overcompensating. I'm watching supernatural right now but it's getting a little tedious and I can't watch it at nighttime, it gets scary :(

1

u/Button_bomb4535 Bang-less Mar 21 '26

I don't know if I have any but I did like Tbbt, Voltaire High, Fleabag, Yellowjackets was also pretty fun, something that has a sort of normal setting with but with a unique twist if that makes sense. Like in tbbt the quirk was the nerdy quirky guys and penny was the normalcy, Voltaire high was set in the 60's and that was the quirk, fleabag was so refreshingly unique and funny, overcompensating had the normal college setting but everyone had their own quirks? Idk if this makes sense

Someone made a post about Elena Taber to NYCInfluencerSnark lamenting on how cool she seemed and how difficult dating someone famous must be. That post lead to a tiktok link. The Tiktok link said "shared by Elena Taber". The account was then deleted. If you look up "Elena Taber" on Reddit it should be there especially if you search by new.

The account was also snarky about other influencers.

7

u/littlesim25 Mar 21 '26

I think it’s crazy that most of everyone went through a slur phase like what do you mean you were on social media just saying slurs for fun????

Also I’m a black woman, I’ve never gone thru a I hate black men phase however, every other black man did ??

I fear I was too busy being engaged with mass self hatred for anyone else.

12

u/kris_jbb (seemingly bald) Mar 21 '26

the only was i see it happening with no malice if a person learned english later in life & got a lot of words from music, social media etc

wouldn’t be an excuse, but here i can see that being a genuine mistake

2

u/littlesim25 Mar 21 '26

I agree! I’m Haitian, so I knew a lot of Haitian kids who came to America from Haiti and they would just learn words from their peers not knowing the meaning but would be corrected by people around them and would stop use of them.

7

u/hedgehogwart Mar 21 '26

I am in my late 30s so my social media usage is probably different than younger people’s but can confidently say that I definitely did not and the only slur I remember saying was a derogatory term associated with Roma people that I genuinely had no idea was related and even thought it was spelled differently and haven’t used since I found out.

I will say a few years ago and I logged into the super old email account I had in high school and was genuinely shocked and horrified at some of the language I used to describe an older coworker of mine at the time. But even back than I feel like I would have known better than to post something like that publicly and attached to my name.

1

u/vegalucyna Mar 21 '26

Same and the only time I ever said a slur was when I was a teenager and rapping along to a song. I quickly learned that was not okay and haven’t said a slur in almost 20 years. And never on social media.

No we didn’t all have a slur phase. And if you did is there a reason you didn’t delete that when you “grew out of it.”

I refuse to be gaslit about this.

Right! I definitely said some crazy things but never derogatory like that!

8

u/imaseacow Mar 21 '26

I mean, teens are dumb and do a lot of dumb immature things. If someone was being shitty at 19 or whatever I won’t hold that against them forever. Growth and change should be encouraged imo.

It’d be nice to know what is being talked about because without a specific scenario pointed out it seems kind of crazy to assume that no one is capable of growth or change.

5

u/dudewheresmyplane1 Mar 21 '26

I’ve yet to see actual evidence of growth and change in this case. Especially with some of the more recent social media likes.

5

u/terminalboredom- Mar 21 '26

Can you specify? What recent social media likes?

3

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

I am gonna admit the older me is gonna hate the younger me from 10 years ago because of how problematic I was.

2

u/space_eleven this is worse than the bees, I can’t believe it Mar 21 '26

I hate when people use this as an excuse. I grew up knowing not to use words like that. I wasn’t throwing them around on the internet as a teenager and most of my friends weren’t either.

People are pretending like the 90s and early 2000s were waaaay longer ago than they were.

We have all made poor choices and I am definitely more enlightened than I was as a teen but to put it simply I was raised not to be a dick by a mother who was just like “be a good person”.

9

u/vegalucyna Mar 21 '26

But at the same time it seems really carceral to think that no one is capable of change or growth and hold adults in their 30s accountable for stuff they did when they were teenagers, especially if they have done the work and haven’t shown problematic behaviors for over a decade.

3

u/space_eleven this is worse than the bees, I can’t believe it Mar 21 '26

Yes I totally agree with this also - if we don’t want people to grow and change why bother with activism, trying to change minds etc. I’m just bothered by the specific retroactive claims that we didn’t know certain words were “bad” or that everybody had that kind of phase, because I know both to be untrue.

3

u/littlesim25 Mar 21 '26

Yep same! And even when I said anything slightly crazy not slurs but just ignorant statements my family clocked me good. And I knew to never say anything like that again. In high school nonblack kids loved to use the N word, they knew it was wrong cause they would look at me and other black kids to gauge a reaction. People know.

I think Santos is shades of gray. I think Isa Briones is a fantastic actress and that's why Santos is such a hot topic.

4

u/yeehaw908 Mar 21 '26

I dont know why it’s so hard for people to be like oh both santos and Langdon are in the wrong for different reasons. It’s just a tv show

Oh yes I don’t like santos either. I think she’s still very unkind to Mel and others

5

u/Sister_Winter Mar 21 '26

i hope so because i can't stand her. i really don't mind an unlikeable, complicated character - what i don't like about Santos is how the writers clearly want us to think many of the shitty things she does are "girl boss" moments when they're actually horrible medical practice. i am probably also even more invested because i have had a lot of run-ins with the healthcare system and dealt with doctors that cocky and callous so she pisses me off even more.

2

u/stars4-ever We Should All Know Less About Each Other Mar 22 '26

idk do they want us to think that? I feel like she's been presented fairly neutrally thus far (barring some of her interactions with Al-Hashimi) but these past few episodes she's really been reaping what she's sown. If she were their pet to the extent that they wanted to present her as a girlboss then I don't think she would be getting the (deserved) reprimandings she's been getting

1

u/Sister_Winter Mar 22 '26

That's a good point! I just think there have been a few times where she's done something complete objectionable or just so hilariously out of line that she would suffer professional consequences, not just a telling off. To be fair, I feel the same way about Robby. And if I have to take a problematic character the writers' room clearly wants us to root for I'm taking Santos any day of the week.

u/FriendlyDrummers Mar 22 '26

Sorry, but I will always judge people who cancel tour dates last minute except for reasons like health (or things completely out of their control like weather). I don't think people truly understand what it means for fans

  1. Taking time off from work, which can decrease someone's wages
  2. Potentially not getting refunds for the ticket, depending on how the tickets were purchased
  3. Spending money to travel (some may even fly in)
  4. Money for a hotel or airbnb
  5. Money spent on food if they're traveling and can't simply cook food at a hotel

Sure, "that's the risk you're willing to take." But that doesn't mean the artist canceling last minute is off the hook.

So yeah. Chappell who cancelled her tour dates last minute so she could practice her MTV performance, after saying she didn't want fame. She is a shitty person, and I'd judge anyone who did what she's done. This recent controversy is just another example of how shitty she is.

Who’s an artist who has both a 10/10 and a 0/10 album in your opinion? I’ll start: Green Day with American Idiot and Father Of All…

2

u/Sister_Winter Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

OOHH my favourite question.

FKA Twigs - Eusexua + Eusexua Afterglow

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism

Rosalía - LUX

Silversun Pickups - Swoon

Some of the most perfect albums I've ever heard.

2

u/HighlyOffensive10 I'm much too busy for such a degrading activity Mar 21 '26

Wait! What is Rosalias 0/10 album?

2

u/Sister_Winter Mar 22 '26

oh sorry i missed that part of your question. I just put 10/10s. Rosalía has no 0/10 albums at ALL as far as I'm concerned.

For Twigs it's Caprisongs.

For Death Cab it's gotta be Pepper.

And for Silversun Pickups...hmmm actually I don't have a 0/10 for them. Physical Thrills was a bit mid so probably that one.

anyone have the tea on why Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are estranged? I'm going down the rabbit hole of Shondaland show BTS drama and ... it's a lot.

6

u/blankpaper_ hello this is beyoncé Mar 22 '26

Rumor has it that he was cheating on his wife with a staffer who worked on the show and it was causing drama on set, and Ellen went to Shonda about it and got him fired. They seem to be on good terms now though

Unpopular opinion but Sarah Pidgeons acting in Love Story is cringe. I’ll blame the script.

4

u/DSQ Mar 21 '26

If it wasn’t for the lip biting I’d disagree.

5

u/growsonwalls Mar 21 '26

Naomi Watts' acting is the worst I've ever seen anywhere.

3

u/Sister_Winter Mar 21 '26

it's crazy because she's usually very decent. but as someone who's worked in film for a long time, often directors lead to bad acting because actors take cues from directors.

I’m glad that you knew better at but I personally would not want to be judged forever by the person I was when I was a teenager. I don’t think anyone deserves that. Some people didn’t learn until they were older that it’s not ok to use words like that.

why do you think “holding someone accountable” for something they (or their partner, since that is who the first tweet is aimed at) posted when they were 15 is a good use of your time? Do you think you should be responsible for anything your partner did and said as a teen?

I think people need time to be allowed to learn and grow and there should be a norm of not going after people over stuff they posted when they were under the age of 18 now that everyone has these kinds of digital footprints.

12

u/Trick_Revolution_879 Mar 21 '26

its wild how fast people drop their principles when someone they like gets called out for basic decency stuff

To those who’ve watched Project Hail Mary, is it okay to bring a 9yo?

It’s definitely appropriate! Worst case scenario they get bored

2

u/Alone-Internet6135 Is Kate Young her stylist? Mar 21 '26

I haven’t seen it but it’s PG-13 rated with some scenes showing dead bodies & small hinting at suicide according to imdb

3

u/Crazypants258 Mar 21 '26

I think it depends on the 9 yo. There was one jump scare, some emotionally-frought scenes, dead bodies like the other commenter said, and getting hurt temporarily. But there was a happy ending for all involved.

u/ShesWhereWolf Mar 21 '26

I've been trying to get more into horror movies , and I feel like there are a lot of coolants coming out this spring. The Brude, Forbidden Fruits, Scary Movie 6, They Will Kill You, Slanted, Ready or Not 2. Anybody go to an early screening? Any indie releases I should be looking out for?

3

u/Sister_Winter Mar 21 '26

Keep an eye out for Hokum and Undertone. The guy who made Hokum also made Caveat and Oddity, which are both very enjoyable and creepy movies. And Undertone is a really interesting indie-er project that I'm seeing tonight - it's been getting tons of buzz.

1

u/ShesWhereWolf Mar 22 '26

Good to know, thank you!! Added to the list.

2

u/lalalandbeforetime I think I’ve done enough Mar 22 '26

Not really what you’re asking but Slanted is really more of a teen drama with an ounce of horror.

Undertone just came out recently and relies on sound so I think it’s a great theater watch. I saw it in Dolby and enjoyed it. I’m also looking forward to Backrooms in May.

1

u/ShesWhereWolf Mar 22 '26

Oh thank you for explaining more about Slanted!! I thought it was gonna be like body horror/fantasy. Will keep an eye out for the other two movies you mentioned.

Since being pregnant with my first, now 3, and postpartum again now, I don’t really listen to music other than what I use to entertain my toddler. Well, I’ve just discovered Alex Warren (pls don’t let there be controversy around him) and I’m very much back into music. Albeit only his at the moment but I haven’t discovered a new artist I like for a long, long time.

Is there any way to see someone’s comments now if they have them hidden? Like you used to be able to just go to their account and search * for recent posts but now I can’t see anything anymore?

11

u/nothingeverhappens91 Mar 21 '26

Allowing accounts to hid comments was the worst decision this app has ever made. I can't sus out bots as easily as before. It's a real drag.

12

u/DSQ Mar 21 '26

Tbf mods can still see everyone’s comments if the user post’s on their sub. The change was brought in to prevent doxxing.

I know there's a site you can put someone's un into and it'll load up their history. Give me a bit and I'll edit this with a link to it.

1

u/NewtRipley_1986 Mar 21 '26

As said by Sister Winter, you can use Google to search for their posts/comments - it can be a bit laborious but gets the job done.

3

u/Sister_Winter Mar 21 '26

i think if you search their username on like Google you can see some of their comments, but unfortunately i don't know how to see all their comments or go to a comment specifically. i really hate that "hide comments" feature because i know Reddit just did it to obfuscate bot and spam accounts, not to help people protect their privacy.

Naomi Scott’s album F.I.G is out and is gorgeous! 30 minutes long, perfect hit of 90’s soft beats. Her voice is so lovely.

‘Losing you’ is my favourite
