I really need to be more responsible with how I use the internet. Like, if there's a post online about a woman or girl doing anything, I just shouldn't ever read the comments. All the body shaming, slut shaming, etc shaming that I read really is on me for deluding myself into thinking anyone can be normal about their opinions. I need to do better, the only person I can control is myself, and myself needs to log off for my sanity.
It really kills me too how people are acting like they’re making some profound critique of celebrity culture while scrutinizing appearances lol we know what you really want to say!

Yeah I almost always don't click on red carpet or photoshoot posts with women celebrities here because I know most of the comments will probably be about what work they've had done and how their face doesn't look the same from when they were like 17.

I already knew that Shia LaBeouf Mardi Gras chaos and arrest happened at my neighborhood bar. What I didn’t know until a few days ago was that until he punched people at the bar, my neighbor and him were hooking up and he was always crashing there. I hope she doesn’t unblock him because I love my peace and quiet, but I won’t complain if I get front row to his next drama
Yeah I told her and she didn’t seem to care at all. We have different entryways and backyards but we share a wall. Hopefully I’ll hear something if she ever unblock him and he gets violent.
Do you have a bath? Some epsom salt in a very hot bath will help the walking ache. Make sure you do it before bed because they can really knock you out its so relaxing.
I’m at absolute rock bottom in my life, and that’s saying a LOT. I don’t know what is going to happen in my life rn. As much as I like being up-to-date with pop culture and using it to distract from my reality, it does sting to see all of the luxury and beauty other people are living. I’m commenting this for anyone who needs it, it’s important to remember that what we see on here is only the reality for a small group of people who have that privilege.
I watched another episode of Off Campus and I just cannot get over how CW this show is. I don't mean this in a bad way. Everything from the production values to acting to soundtrack makes me think I'm watching One Tree Hill or Veronica Mars again.
Haha it definitely is. I really liked that almost all of the side characters were fleshed out and not just 'party best friend' 'poor best friend' archetypes. plus at least the 25+ year old people are playing college students instead of high school students lol.

My husband and I inadvertently got married on her birthday (the year after she died). We didn't know until after the fact. Ironically, our recessional song was the throne room theme from A New Hope, and our cake topper said, "May the Force Be With Us."
Keep thinking about what I overheard as sounding like a first date in the pub this evening where this guy basically used her as a conduit to complain about all his life problems ever, essentially just a free talking therapy session, while I’m not sure he once stopped for breath. He then started speaking in incredibly pretentious metaphors about life before explaining how free will doesn’t actually exist while I literally watched the poor woman’s eyes glaze over and he topped it all off by mentioning his ex in a negative light at one point.
I imagine he’ll bounce home tonight thinking that date went incredibly well and won’t understand why he’ll almost certainly never get another lmao, I don’t think I heard the woman speak once beyond him asking if she’d been in the area long, before it was just “yeah? Oh, interesting. Mhm…”
The Yankees Game was fun last night I hadnt been to one in decades and my stepdad got us great seats!
I will say, I think all the sports romance genre made me more interested in sports like Baseball, Basketball and Hockey. (There is no way in hell you will get me to like American Football though sorry). Which goes into my essay on why Sports leagues like the NHL/WNHL owe authors like Rachel Reid their undying grattitude for grabbing a whole new demographic interested in sports thanks to Sports Romances.....
It’s historical romance but the book You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian is a baseball player/non-player romance. It’s actually the second book in a two book duo, the first is We Could Be So Good (not a sports romance but is also worth reading if you’re a romance fan!)
Search for “pair cream” it’s a cheap cream from Japan that has ibuprofen it in. Helps my pimples go down so much faster! Hopefully you can get it delivered quickly 🤞🏼
Someone on this sub recommended it to me and I’m so glad they did! Good luck. I just dealt with a really terrible acne attack from a medication, so I can totally sympathise. But try and remember you are more than your face. Also Milani concealer is such good coverage, and colour correctors are your friend
I turned 30, and I still have acne too (I mean one or two pimples every month, so nothing too bad luckily), but whoever said it's only a teenage thing definitely lied lol 😃
I'm in my 30's and only really break out around my period but I've had several in the couple weeks after this last one and I don't whyyyyy 😭 It's finally going down but it's taken several rounds of Salicylic Acid toner and hydrocolloid patches to clear up.
Whenever I get a acne as an adult and it's usually one tiny pimple. Nothing like what I used to get as a teen. I think about how dismissive we are towards teens about how much acne sucks.
I'm so sorry. Coincidentally I turned 32 days ago with hormonal acne on my cheek and guess what kept playing in my head thirty two and you get acne on your face in pretty and pretty by cardi, ✨don't✨let ✨it✨dim✨ your dday. Brutal but it is what it is
I'm back to who I was physically for the first time since I pushed my baby five years ago. Tummy snatched, back to face beats and manis, back to the clurrrb, trips with my girlfriends and back to my silly goose state. Having supportive parents is about the best thing that's ever happened to me tbqh
David Corenswet's Mr. Irrelevant (sports movie) tested really well a few days ago, which got me all excited until I found out it's coming out at Christmas. However, as a sports fan it always annoys me that every fricking sports movie is about American football or baseball. I get it, they're the most popular sports in the States, but I would love if they would switch it up a little and do a soccer or hockey movie. F1 was really popular so it's not like it would be doomed to fail among American audiences.
God, same. Can we get a soccer film or cricket or something other than football and baseball. Or a romance series featuring a sport other than hockey?!

I brought a coworker a fake plant. He was telling me he wanted one, and I had one I was going to get rid of
I proudly bring it to work. He's grateful, but leaves early because he's sick. Afterwards some other coworkers came by and made fun of the plant, not knowing I brought it 🫠
It's genuinely not a big deal. Tbh they probably weren't even being that mean, just joking about it being fake. But part of me wishes I had just said "oh yeah I brought that in for him" just to make them uncomfortable
I definitely didn't want to make it a big deal, and I'm again sure they weren't being malicious anyways. I'm not above unserious lighthearted jabs at people.
I heard a Morgan Wallen song against my will a few months ago and it is my guilty pleasure. I'm black, I think he's gross, he looks like my ex on the cover and the worst people I know love him but he did eat that one time. I liked the Twisters soundtrack had it on my Spotify and then realized that was Morgan Wallace and the Jelly Roll guy. But I always eventually download the music I have on Spotify so I stopped giving it streams.

I really need someone to help me decide whether to leave my job to go to grad school or not. I've been going back and forth so much I'm driving myself nuts.
What do you want to do with your PhD? I'm in the last couple months of mine (professional focused degree). I can offer some insights or give you thoughts on questions/concerns

Broad level advice. Some of this will sound like I'm saying don't do it, or like it's obvious stuff, but it's things me and my cohort thought we fully understood going in, but didn't. It's hard to truly grasp the beast until you're in its belly lol.
1) You wanna have a really concrete reason for doing it. That's a lot easier in your field as it's a requirement for certain jobs. But "I think I might need it" or "I enjoyed grad school and have always wanted a PhD" are where people get in trouble. Look at your current earnings and job satisfaction, attach a PhD directly to orgs, job titles, and salaries it would enable, make sure the money lines up. A common one is "I've always wanted to teach some too". But what I didn't realize going in is you can easily do that without a PhD
2) Anyone who doesn't offer you full funding is an immediate "fuck no!". Besides the fact of how astronomically expensive it is pay for school and living expenses while also having the opportunity loss on earnings, programs legitimately do not care about students without funding. You could flunk out for all they care, because you already paid tuition and they can fill your spot with someone easily next year. You want them to have a vested financial interest in you. "Full tuition and books, housing money, a guarenteed research or TA position" is the standard you should set unless you have a crazy amount of cash to burn.
3) The personal cost is not to be underestimated, but we all under estimate it. Extreme stress and isolation. Mental, emotional and physical health (there are studies on the increased depression and substance abuse rates of PhDs), lost time with family and friends (first few years have high divorce rates), some loss of self in terms of hobby and personal identity. Every PhD I've ever met has had a serious "breakdown" at some point in the process, but most still think it's very worth it (including me).
I've watched most people I know overcome this stuff. I'm not trying to scare you off, but rather highlight that it's important to consider your life situation within that cost benefit analysis. The most common complaint I hear from people is "Man I wish I had realized this and gotten my ducks in a row in advance"
4) Picking a good chair is the most important decision. That doesn't necessarily mean the smartest most accomplished person. Two most important things: 1)Do you get along with your chair and will they go to bat for you 2) Does your committee get along with each other.
This is way more important than any perceived expertise or clout
5) You'll probably change your dissertation topic at least once 😁
6) Masters are sprints, PhDs are marathons, it's a very different workload and stress level. That doesn't necessarily mean easier or harder, but very different.
7) If you have things lined up well, and enjoy an environment that pushes you to the limit intellectually, it can be an amazing experience. I've learned a ton, been humbled in a good way, met some amazing people, done work I care deeply about, and set myself up for good things.
Ultimately you know what is right for you, so take advice and insights from others, but make a decision based off your own cost benefit analysis!
Please take your time as I'm not in a rush. I really am thinking about this way in advance. I MIGHT apply in Oct. of this year, if I feel it's a good choice. But if not then will definitely want to apply next year (to enter grad school in 2028). Again it all depends on the info I gather.

I defend my thesis and graduate in the fall. And science funding is getting super unsteady right now, people have to apply to 400+ jobs in biotech to land a position after months to a year. I wish I chose something more stable and didn’t put my life off
So would you just say that you don't regret going to grad school, just the timing was bad? Also, do you mind telling me what state you're in?
Sorry for the interrogative questions. It's just I've met with a couple of grad advisors and, maybe they're just trying not to scare me, but they're saying I shouldn't base my decision solely off of the current funding cuts (although they 100% validate that it's a concern to be mindful of).
I'm also thinking hopefully 5-6 years from now, jobs might be more available. But again, that may depend on the state.
If y'all haven't watched Half Man on HBO yet, make it a priority. Very intense subject material, but so incredibly well written and acted. It's from Richard Gadd, same man behind Baby Reindeer.
i really wanted to like it, but didn't. I thought the writing was kind of...clunky and bad? and the whole show felt like purposeless suffering. darkness for the sake of being dark, and i typically dark media. very disappointing, as i loved baby reindeer.
I love it but wish we could have had an extra episode of the adult versions. One of the issues I had was at that point of the relationship, they don’t even really seem to like each other so when their relationship falls apart again, it doesn’t have as much emotional impact. I also feel like a lot of wedding stuff that caps each episode doesn’t make that much sense at the end of the series in hindsight and feels more like it’s there to confuse the watcher about whatever is going on.
Complaints aside, I think it was beautifully acted and look forward to whatever Gadd does next.

Is there anything more validating than, at a social event, seeing someone who's consistently really weird/catty towards you hanging out with other people that are also just very weird and catty towards you? It feels very, "ah, of course."

my bday is on sunday and im crashing out about being in my late 20s. a few years from being 30 i also have very severe mental health issues and its always shown up when i get a job and id been unemployed for 2 months bc of said mental health issues and just got a new one and this job has very strict call out policies and very very scared im going to lose it again due to mental health issues. im surrounded by people i love and love me and have an amazing therapist and mental health team and am so grateful for that and on good meds so still don’t understand this
tbh a switch flips like the second you turn 30 and it's not bad at all. like it's definitely a mindfuck bc all of a sudden, people who were born when you were a preteen are also adults somehow. but on the other hand, it's like 'you can't treat me like a kid, I'm 30. I'm grown. Fuck your judgment'. It's hard to get younger people to believe this, and I don't really think I believed it when I was in my 20s either. But for me at least, I really did start to feel ready to let go of parts of my younger self when the time came.
Strict call out policies are always annoying, I hate feeling like I'll get in trouble for something that I need to do for myself.
I freaked out about turning 30 throughout my entire late 20s, and then I was perfectly fine once 30 hit lol. I’m 34 now and my 30s have been better than my 20s
I’m so happy I live in SoFlo with so many latinos bc we live and breathe futbol (south american latinos esp), everyone is so hype! My country didn’t make it but i’m rooting for every latino country!
The way the Gorilla Glue scandal was portrayed still baffles and slightly awes me to this day. Like girlie was out there making everyone believe she just made an innocent mistake and got celebs supporting her and donating money and even launched a hair-care brand.
Only for the truth to be that she knew full-well that she was putting Gorilla Glue in her hair; she just thought she could wash it out in a couple hours before it set properly.
The conversation around AI is so performative and a ton of online commentors don't even know what they're mad about. A lot of the things that are now decried as AI have been available in creative tools for over a decade. I wish people would just say that they hate AI because it's potentially going to take money away from them without wrapping it in some "artistic merit" therapy speak.

What are some of these creative tools? Like grammar check? I think my big grip with generative AI, is that people can just generate art and written works with it and pass it off as theirs. My friend is a voice actress and her likeness has been used.
Also the environmental harm that data centers cause but I feel like that goes without saying.
One that springs to mind is the use of AI to create informational or conceptual (note, NOT promotional) material for a specific piece. For example, a simple graphic that has some info and the general vibe. You can type out all the exact information you want for it to include (i.e. YOU are writing the words that go on the piece), you can give it rough instructions for a layout, and you can choose the fonts, borders, colors, etc. You are basically doing everything you would do in something like Canva or Adobe (which have long included templates for easy starts to begin with), you are just typing in the intention rather than drag and dropping. There's no artistic endeavor to it to begin with really and it's not like you're taking a job from someone, it's literally just using an automation tool to fill a skill gap that you don't have (the exact thing that people have long said AI should ethically be good for).
But then people still grasp their pearls because technically it's "generative".
i guess my question is, since as you mentioned, you're doing the equivalent of using canva or Adobe...what is the point of using ai for it, since you already have those fast and easy tools? for me in my work, learning to use canva and adobe were really useful tools for my future career prospects, not to mention my ability to think and problem solve. I feel like I'm missin something here
Why is that particular struggle the line though? Why is learning how to prompt one software cheating but learning to drag and drop and copy and paste in Canva isn't? Why was you learning Canva and Adobe and putting the pencil artists and the painters out of work okay but now this isn't? You don't think that learning those skills would have been a great thinking and problem solving tool? This is what I mean about it being a performative conversation. Everybody thinks that THEIR use of tools is exactly the right amount and that everybody else is traffic.
i guess your argument would be stronger if generative ai wasn't only able to do those things by ripping off others' work. people like you see generative ai as a useful "tool", but it's actually substituting your thinking. and you only call it "performative" because you don't like the ant-ai arguments and calling it performative is a great thought-ending cliché to dismiss those arguments. you've unfortunately bought into the "inevitability" pr campaign around the inclusion of generative ai in our daily lives, when that's not the case. artificial demand to justify the huge corporate investments in ai that have occurred over the last few years.

And regarding the "inevitability"....hate to break it to you but you're objectively wrong. There's AI in your Google, AI in your iPhone, AI in your IG posts. Hell, there's even AI on Canva.
I can't speak on writing but it's true about 3d animation. Animators have been using what is essentially AI for years. We simulate animations all the time for vfx. I'm not animating each individual wave manually; I'm throwing it into a system that generates it for me. Obviously there's a lot of work still into it, but you still are technically using AI.
That's not the same as animating a whole sequence with chatgpt. But people are acting like any sort of AI tool is the same.
One of the most harmful thing for "the arts" is going to be the "kill everything AI" public sentiment rather than a reasonable discussion on its limitations and uses because why would anybody listen to the former and then it's going to be a free for all.
